Chapter 8
Yash was still looking lost and clueless. Aarti slowly moved to the side and was going down the stair case when all of a sudden she felt her dupatta being pulled. She looked back in confusion, only to see it was stuck on Yash's wrist watch. He came out of his thoughts, looked at Aarti who looked uncomfortable because her dupatta. He tried to free it but in vain. He looked at Aarti helplessly. Aarti slowly walked towards him and expressed through her eyes that she will try. She meddled with the watch and dupatta desperately trying to let it free. The breeze made her hair dance on Yash's face. In the process her soft fingers touched Yash's arm sending a tingly feeling to him. Aarti could feel her own heart beating loudly. At last, the dupatta came free...she looked at Yash again with a faint smile and simply left...
Yash saw her running and talking to the priest, his phone vibrated..and he saw a text from Pankaj. His brother was concerned, so he stepped out to his car and called him. "Where are you Yash, is everything ok? You left before me, and when I didnt see you at work, I got worried."...Yash explained to his brother he just stopped at the temple and he should be in shortly. He wanted to go back inside...but he gave it a second thought..and drove to work.
Yash immersed himself into his work, something that kept him busy and he needn't have to think about anything else. He did not realize when time flew, when Pankaj stepped into the room..."Yash, come on lets go!"...Yash gave him a dumb look as he did not understand what is brother was talking about. "What...we are meeting Prateek at the restaurant...remember, its boys day out today?"..Yash had completely forgotten that the three brothers always took time to get together inspite of their busy lifestyles. This was their bonding time, something they always look forward to. "Of course, lets go" Yash said with a grin and they left to meet Prateek at the restaurant he works.
The brothers drank, pulled each other's leg, teased and laughed heartily. They were the best of friends, and more than that, they were the closest of brothers.
"So Yash bhaiyya, we are meeting Dr. Shankar's family this weekend at the temple.."...the word temple made Yash's thoughts go back to the girl he ran into at the temple this morning. Yash dismissed his thoughts as childish, smiled to himself..."Wow bhaiyya, you are already blushing at the thought of bhaabhi!"..."No Prateek, I was not thinking about...its ok, just leave it."...
Aarti was sitting in the lounge of her hostel going through some last minute paper work. She will know in another week which college in the US she will go to. She was excited and at the same time anxious how things will turn out for her. She had gone to the temple from college after meeting with Mansi and a few professors for recommendation letters. She was a brilliant student and everyone loved to give her the letters. As she wrapped up everything and walked back to her room, she felt a tug on her dupatta. She felt a shiver, shocked, turned around, only to find it stuck on the door handle. Embarrassed at herself, she loosened it and went to her room..."ayyo, enna idhella..."(for readers: what's all these..). She shook off her thoughts about Yash and started to get ready for bed.
Aarti was lying on her bed staring outside the window at the full moon, a light breeze blew in covering her face with her hair...she wandered off unconsiously to the morning's incident with Yash...she wondered who he was, his expression and his lost look on the face. Aarti giggled to herself...and fell asleep.
...Yash was standing in the balcony of his room looking at the full moon, a similar breeze and lingering thoughts...he was feeling very unsettled. He closed his eyes only and seemed like he felt Aarti's hair on his face...why did it feel like it was not the first time that happened...his heart was pounding...he did not understand why...he paced in his balcony...who was she...did he meet her before...her hair, her face...he stopped when he remembered her name..."Aarti" he whispered...looked at the moon, smiled and went back inside...
Next day morning, Yash was chirpy and seemed to be in a great mood until his mom called to him on his way out..."Yash beta, your father wanted me to remind you that we will be meeting Dr.Shankar's family this weekend..."...Yash felt as if someone threw a bucket of water at him. He looked at his mom, nodded and left quickly. He had second thoughts whether to stop at the same temple on his way or not...realizing it was too immature and unfair to his and Dr.Shankar's family, he decided to go to work...he felt he just squashed a tiny bud before it bloomed.
Aarti on the other hand did go to the temple again. Her classes were all done and she needed to pay a visit to her aunt. After all, they did care of her in a way after her grandfather passed away and left her in their care. With a heavy heart and memories flooding her, she took a bus to her aunt's house...
