Part Four

Radha came a little while later to talk to Aarti.

"Aarti... I didn't mean for you to hear it like this. I hope you are not thinking that we are using you for our own benefits."

After a pause she continued, "Will you marry Yash and be Palak's mother? Aarti looked at Palak and nodded.

That really pleased Radha now she only have to convince Yash, a difficult task but not impossible. Finally what she couldn't accomplish with words, one incident pushed him towards making the decision.

One day Yash came earlier than usual carrying a sick Palak to their house.

"What happened to Palak?" a worried Aarti asked.

"She fell down and hurt her knee, we went to the clinic and got the stiches done," Yash replied.

Yash put her down on the bed and from that moment Aarti didn't leave her side. She fed her, cleaned her and carried to the bathroom whenever she needed to use it. Whatever misconceptions Yash had about Aarti not fulfilling the needs of a mother was laid to rest.

Radha didn't let things slid away and used it as an opportunity to pursue the matter.

"Have you seen how Aarti has taken care of Palak? Can you find a better mother than Aarti for her?"

He let out a sigh and said, "Ok Maa... do as you wish." He resigned himself to the fact that this is inevitable and there was no point in resisting it, more importantly Palak's desire for a mother would be fulfilled.

So everything was set and they planned for a court marriage. Aarti sent words to Mansi about her whereabouts and she came by to see her. They had their private conversation outside the house.

"Do they know about Prashant?" Mansi asked.

"No... you think I should tell them. What if they start looking at me differently? I ran away from my husband, would they trust me with their child."

"Aarti... I'm not sure if this is the right time to tell you not but Prashant came to the house looking for you. He begged me to tell where you are," Mansi said.

"Oh! He did ... uhh... how is he?" Aarti asked on the verge of crying.

"After all he did you are still worried about him."

"I can't help it I still care about him, love just doesn't die in one day now does it," Aarti said and wiped her tears.

Aarti added, "I don't know Mansi I'm just torn, sometimes all I want to do is go back to him and then when I see Palak's face ..."

"You want to go back to the drunk who abused you, are you mad," said an upset Mansi.

Aarti thought for a while and said, "No... I'm going to stay and be Palak's mother."

"And Yash's wife. You seem to forgetting that they come in a package."

"But I don't want a husband," Aarti said.

"If you don't want him, can I have him? He is kind of cute."

"I'm so tired of my nagging mother-in-law and puss of a husband." Both of them laughed and walked back hand in hand.

As the marriage approached closer Aarti's guilt about hiding the truth was eating her, she planned to disclose the whole truth to Yash. The only problem was that she could never get any moment alone with him, there was always someone around them.

And finally on their marriage day when Aarti had let faith decide on whether the truth should be out or not, an opportunity presented itself. Yash had an important call from his office, he told the rest to go ahead first he will come later. Aarti feigned light-headedness on the pretext of going back in the house.

"Aarti ... Are you ok? Do you want me to stay back with you?" Radha asked.

"Aarti will be fine, she can come with Yash Bhaiya after taking some rest," Vidhi said.

"Hmmm... don't take too long," Vidhi winked at her.

Immediately Aarti went to look for Yash, she found him looking diligently at one of the files. She called out for him a few times but he was in another world. She went nearer and as he turned right at the same moment both of them collided hitting their foreheads. His files and some papers fell on the floor.

Aarti with one hand on her forehead bent down to pick up the papers.

"I'm so sorry Yashji," Aarti said. A breeze flew in scattering the papers all around the room. They busied themselves picking them up one by one.

Aarti went towards him with a smile on her face and that was the moment the very first moment that he actually looked at her. He was enthralled by her beauty, he absorbed everything about her, her long flowy hair, her red bindi on her forehead, her kajal laden eyes and her inviting smile.

"Oh my God, she is breathtakingly beautiful," he thought and so spellbound was he that he was oblivious to the fact his phone was ringing.

"Yashji...Yashji... your phone," Aarti said looking at his pocket.

"Huh...Oh!...Hain," he picked up his phone and answered.

"Aarti... we need to hurry, they are waiting for us."

"I will talk to him on the way there," she said to herself.

Every time she tried to open her mouth her courage failed her.

"Yashji... I have an important thing to tell you," she started the conversation. Yash turned to look at her.

"Actually when you asked me if I was alone all this while, well... it wasn't the whole truth. I was in the orphanage that part is true but I...I... was married ...," Aarti quickly looked away to hide her emotional distress.

Yash was silent, his silence wreaked havoc in her heart, "his silence is killing me."

After a lapse of time he said, "Hmmm... and you choose now to tell me."

Aarti dared not to look at him, "whatever he decides I will agree to it I did wrong," she thought.

Yash reasoned in his mind, "It shouldn't matter if she has been married before or not, we are not getting married for our own pleasure it is for other more important reasons."

He brushed aside his other emotion, he was feeling a tinge of possessiveness over her. He wanted to learn more about her life yet he denied himself the liberty of asking her. When they reached their destination, he squeezed her hand lightly and they walked in. Neither of them broached the subject.

They signed their papers and were officially married.

Palak was so excited and said, "Can I call you mama now?". Aarti took her in her arms and hugged her.

Everything was as before between Yash and Aarti nothing much changed. A few days later Yash announced that he will be leaving for overseas soon.
