Chapter Thirty

Prateik reached home and all were wondering why he was late though the flight landed on time. He gave the excuse of heavy traffic and just then the driver came with his suitcase. SP told him to park the car and leave as he must have driven in heavy traffic. The driver told them that there was hardly any on that day because of which he could manage to take Prateik to the clinic to meet the doctor of Aarti Bitiya.

Yash and Aarti looked at each other and smiled. Prateik was caught in his efforts to meet Paridhi but he was glad as now things could be easier for him. SP tried asking Prateik the reason for meeting the doctor when Yash interrupted and changed the topic.

Sometime later when they were alone ----

Prateik: Thanks Bhaiya.

Yash: For what Prateik?

Prateik: I had not gone to meet the doctor bhaiya, but went to meet Paridhi.

Yash(smiling): Okay, so finally your girl has arrived. I'm happy for you Prateik. She is a nice girl.

Prateik: We haven't spoken about anything much as yet but soon I plan to tell her.

Yash: Go ahead Prateik and don't delay. All the best!

Yash and Aarti were thinking of Maanav and Prateik. Both of them were at a crossroad of life where a decision had to be taken. Paridhi was fine for Prateik but for Maanav they needed to find the right partner --- one who would love Armaan --- and also fill his life with the love and care he needed after Arpita's loss.

Aarti: Yash, don't you feel it is strange that should things work out with Paridhi, your family would yet again have a daughter in law who is an orphan like me.

Yash wasn't happy with that statement.

Yash: Aarti, please don't ever say that. Shobha Ma and Dubeyji loved you more than their own child isn't it? And as far as Paridhi is concerned, Ma and Babuji will love her the same way. A family is meant to empower each other, a bond which should see beyond what the world sees. Our family belongs to that Aarti and Paridhi will never feel like she has no one.

Aarti felt so proud of Yash and her good fortune for having found such a great life partner. She wanted to make the talk a little lighter trying to remind Yash of the fun moments they had during their short break. She stroked his cheeks and looked into his eyes, and picked up his hands towards her mouth when her phone rang. It was from an unknown caller. She picked up her mobile but did not let go of Yash. She answered the call with her right hand while the left had Yash's firmly placed near her cheek.

Female Voice: Hello Aarti! How are you?

Aarti: I am fine but sorry I can't place you.

Female Voice: Well, try to guess while I give you some more hints. It has been nearly ten years that we met. We both have shared the same bench in high school. We both love to eat ---

Aarti immediately said: Bhel puri! Vidhi it's you?! How are you and how did you get my number?

Obviously she did not have her number but Vidhi managed to get it from Shobha Ma.

Vidhi: After I left Bhopal, I know I lost touch with all my old friends. But then now I'm back here. My Dad has got posted yet again here and so I had to quit my job and come with my family. I'll look for a new one here.

Aarti: Vidhi, were you working? Are you still single? That's hard to digest considering the number of guys who were after you right from school days?

Vidhi: I was working Aarti but now I'll take a short break before I do something. And yes, I am still single. Actually Aarti, I lost my mother a few years back and after that I don't feel like leaving my Dad alone, which is why with every posting of his I quit my job and take a new one in the new place. He needs me Aarti.

Aarti: I'm so sorry Vidhi to hear that. We must meet up soon now that we are in the same town.

By now Yash was getting restless as Aarti was holding on to him and talking to her dear friend.

He nudged her and started hugging her tighter as he ran his fingers through her hair. She quickly caught his fingers and told Vidhi that she would call her back the following day.

Aarti: Yash what are you doing?

Yash: Loving my wife ---- who was so busy talking to someone when her husband wanted all her attention.

Aarti pushes him aside and says: Yash, that was my very old friend with whom I had lost touch for nearly ten years. She is back in town and I'm so excited.

Yash: That's great. I'm happy for you that after Arpita you have another close friend now which should keep you in good spirits. Did she know Arpita too?

Aarti: Oh yes, she did. I'll catch up with her tomorrow.

The Following day

Prateik spoke to Yash that he was taking a day off as he had been away for a week and Yash was fine with that. He told Prateik to quickly move his story forward with Paridhi.

Paridhi knew that she could expect Prateik any time that day so she did not take important appointments and also requested for her day to be light at work. As she expected Prateik was there at the clinic by mid morning itself. Paridhi spotted him and came out to meet him. She told him that she would take permission and then they could go out and spend some time.

Prateik and Paridhi were in the car when Prateik slowly started: Paridhi, The last one week was very hectic for me.

Paridhi: I can imagine for there was not a single phone or message from you!

Prateik could sense a kind of anger in her voice. He did feel bad but was planning to make up for it.

Prateik: I'm sorry Paridhi. Were you too busy with your patients?

Paridhi: Yes, it was the usual routine not too tight but yes, it was helpful as I had something to do when you were away.

Prateik: I have already spoken to Yash bhaiya and Aarti bhabhi too must be knowing about us by now.

Paridhi: About us? I can't get you Pratiek.

Prateik: That we are meeting more often now a days.

He was feeling a little awkward to still say the actual words. Paridhi also wasn't sure how to talk further to him about them.

Paridhi: At least you have someone to talk to Prateik. I have no one.

Prateik brought the car to a halt. He looked at her and said: Please don't say that Paridhi. You can always tell me anything.

Paridhi: I did a few days back and you did not like it Prateik. So I am not saying anything anymore.

Prateik understood that this was the time for him to give her the much needed comfort --- that he was with her --- always. He was willing to make a fresh start to his life forgetting about the past ---which anyway was a one --- sided love.

Prateik: Paridhi, will you be a part of my life?

Paridhi could not believe what she heard though she was so keen to hear this for a long time. She wanted to quickly say "yes" and seal the matter forever! But words weren't coming out of her mouth as she was choked with emotions. Prateik shook her shoulder a little to wake her up from her thoughts and repeated his question.

Paridhi lifted her gaze to him and found that the tears that she had withheld found way down her cheeks. She was embarrassed at this and took out a tissue to dab it off.

Prateik knew her answer though she did not say it. He allowed her to collect herself for some time. Then he took out a small gift and held it out to her.

Prateik: This is for you Paridhi.

Paridhi saw that and then looked up at him.

Paridhi: What's this for Prateik?

Prateik: A small way of letting you know that I thought of you for the entire last week when I was away. I purposely did not call you Paridhi to check how strongly I felt your absence and how much I missed you. Please take it.

Paridhi took the gift and opened it. It was a simple watch but for her it showed that the "time" had come for her to find a home of her own.

Paridhi: It's beautiful Prateik. Thanks.

Prateik smiled and took it from her hand and made her wear it.

Aarti went to meet Vidhi at her place. She was so excited on seeing her. Vidhi too was very happy on seeing Aarti and even happier when she got to know that she was in the family way. Aarti shared with her about her life ---- how she went on to marry Prashant whom Vidhi knew too and then how she lost him and then about Arpita and her huge attraction towards Yash and then her love story with Yash and finally she told her about Arpita's demise. Vidhi was torn apart when she came to know of all that happened in the lives of her friends here in Bhopal.

Vidhi also told her about her mother's loss and that she had decided to be with her Dad forever. She did not want to leave him at all and so she was not considering marrying at all. Aarti just listened to her as she knew it was still early days trying to talk to her about Maanav but somewhere her mind had started working on that already.

Fast forward ----- a few months later

First meeting of Maanav and Vidhi.

Prateik tells his parents about Paridhi.

The baby arrives.
