Chapter Three

That evening, Mr. Suraj returned home having called Yash already on the phone earlier in the day and asked Yash to come home in the evening. When Mr. Suraj arrives home he couldn't eat or even take his bath. He just sat in his living room thinking about what Dubey told him earlier that morning about the contract.

While he was thinking, his wife Gayatri stepped in to ask her husband. "My husband, you look very troubled what is the matter or didn't your meeting go well with Mr. Dubey?" Gayatri asked.

"It all went well, just that there is more to it, when I stepped into Dubey's office I saw a girl, a very beautiful and intelligent girl who happens to be Dubey's daughter, when I asked Dubey, he told me that she is still single and had just graduated from university." Suraj replied.

"And what does that has to do with your contract appeal with Mr. Dubey at the ministry of works?" Gayatri queried.

"Everything, as a matter of fact it has everything to do with it'''. Well, I requested for her hand in marriage as a wife for our son Yash because I know she will make a good wife for him after all he is old enough to get married." Suraj stated with a command.

"My husband, how can you go outside and arrange marriage plans for our son without his consent, suppose he doesn't approve of the idea what will you tell Dubey?" Gayatri asked with concern.

"Of course he will approve of it, is he not my son? I know what's good for him and that is what am going to do for him, look Gayatri you need to see this girl I am talking about, she is very young, and good looking girl, an epitome of beauty I bet you will like her when you see her. She is a very nice and respectable girl." Suraj added.

I don't know the girl in question all that I know is my son, how are you sure he will like her, don't forget we are in modern days, and teenagers don't like being dictating for, they like doing things all by themselves." Gayatri warned.

"I don't in any way doubt that, but you see sometimes these young ones don't normally see very well and sometimes they don't just have time for such, for that reason they don't to ask us to help them in search for these things, all I'm asking is your understanding, don't also forget the relationship we will build with Dubey and his entire family". Suraj urged.

"Wait a minute are you doing this for the relationship you will build with Dubey for the best interest of your son?" Gayatri asked. That moment, Yash walked in to meet his parents arguing.

"Good evening dad, good evening mum, I overheard you from outside I hope there is no problem?" Yash asked.

There is no problem son, how are u doing and your work?" Gayatri replied.

Everything is perfectly fine, there is no problem at all, and look somebody should better tell me what going on because I can see your faces seems worried for anybody who sees you will understand that all is not well between both of you, so please tell me what is going on. Yash aspired.

"My son may be you should ask your father I believe he is the one that sent for you." Gayatri opted.

"don't mind her son, the truth is that there is no problem here, not at all, just worried about you, we don't seem to understand what your plans are, concerning your future or don't u want to settle down." Suraj chipped in.

Yash laughed. "Come on dad is that why u both are wearing long faces, I will settle down soon, you parent are sometimes funny."😆

You call it funny, alright you call that being funny so when do you intend settle down, is it when u are probably 40 or 50 that you will think of it, Yash when will u think of getting married?" Suraj scolded bitterly.

"Very soon dad." Yash replied.

"When is very soon, that's a very common and flimsy excuse among you teenagers, tell me when are u bringing your girl friend for introduction?" Suraj scolded loudly.

"Dad the truth is that I don't have any intended person for now but will surely get one very soon, it's nothing to worry about. Yash assured with a smile.

"Yash do u means you have no girl friend with marriage intention yet?😲 GOD! That makes your problem more complicated. Gayatri lamented.

"Mom its not that I don't want to marry, just that I haven't Made up my mind yet besides I work to hard, you know I am the only one carrying the whole financial obligations of my company, I hardly have time for myself let alone another person, I miss a lot of things but I can't help it. Yash lamented.

"That is total nonsense, rubbish is what you are talking, at your age u don't have anybody to call your fiance anyway you don't have a problem because I have already found one for you." Suraj said, laughing.

"Dad! Dad!! If this is a joke please stop it because that is not funny, that I don't have one does not mean I can't find any, I respect your effort so far but at this time you have crossed the boundary." Yash protested.

"Will you shut up, you fool, what do u know about finding a good wife, the girl am talking about is the daughter of Mr. Dubey my very good friend, she is a very beautiful, honest, and intelligent girl who will make a good wife for you." Suraj stated.

"Dad I don't care what ever she may be, the point is that I will choose my own wife and I will not have u to do that for me." Yash opposed.

"You are a foolish and hopeless; let me tell you if you ever turn down this great opportunity out of your stupidity and stubbornness, I promise I will make sure you suffer for it." Suraj threatens.

"Mum this place is no longer conducive for me. May be I should just leave as for you, dad I will advice you don't do anything that will implicate you because your plans won't work". Yash concluded and left the house that night angrily and decided never to visit his parents on any urgent call anymore😡. Meanwhile when he left, Suraj and Gayatri engaged themselves in a very terrible quarrel as Gayatri warned her husband not to push their son into any forceful marriage but should allow him make his own choice but Suraj insisted that Yash must marry dubey's daughter in other to guarantee his chances of making it through the federal government and will do anything to ensure that the marriage workout as planned.

Mr. Dubey has already pronounced the idea to his young daughter has generated so much heat in his household leaving his daughter Aarti with many critics against her father.

"Dad that is very impossible, it will never happen how can you go and arrange marriage behind my back with somebody I don't know he ever exist, how will I know if he ever is the right man for me, how will I know the type of character that he posses, there are some unspeakable thing you parent don't understand." Aarti disagreed.

" will you shut up you little brat, what do you know about good men, I am telling you about a good and hardworking young man who will take very good care of you and you are here telling me about right man for you." Dubey blasted.😡

"But my husband, why are u trying to push this girl against her wish or have u forgotten she equally has her freedom of choice." Shobah pleaded.

"Freedom of choice or not I have made my decision and that's final, sometimes when an elder fore see a future luck for his young ones, they will blindly refuse to see it, that young accountant will be husband and that's period." Dubey concluded and left.

Aarti busted in tears as her mother Shobah tries to console her, telling her that everything will be fine, it is just a matter of time all she has to do is look out for who the young man is and try to know his type of person.

"Mom but why should dad do a thing like that or has he forgotten that we are in modern age?" Aarti cried.😭

"I believed that someone somewhere is manipulating him but with time he will come to his sense" Shobah assured.😊

I am loving the outline and the way the story is shaping up. Arranged marriages are very common even now in India. But the way the two dads approached their kids with the idea was - outlandish. That was bound to get their hackles up.
