Aarti laid on the bed feeling sad for Ansh. He had a mother who could not love him enough and the man he considered his father did not think of him as his son. She reckoned only the Dubeys truly love Ansh and the Dubeys would turn him into another Prashant. She wondered why Yash still has not accepted Ansh as his son. Palak and Payal are her daughters and they have become such an essential part of her that she could not imagine her life without them. What would it take for Yash to accept Ansh as his son?
She knew that she should not have been harsh with Ansh that morning. She struggled at times not to treat him that way. But he was turning out to be more and more like Prashant with each passing day that she could not help her emotions sometimes.
Initially when she had entered the Scindia's household, she was too consumed with taking care of the children that she had banished any memories of her life before that. But Mrs Dubey had called up two days ago and asked her if she had spilled anything to Yash. She had warned her how the Scindia's would chase her and Ansh out if they found out about her past. And then the memories came flooding back to her and now they refused to go away.
And when Ansh had held her that morning, she was reminded of when she and Mansi were revising in the library and Prashant came to join them. He took Mansi's book away and when Mansi chased after him, he tried hiding behind Aarti to shield from Mansi. She could still remember their shrieks of laughters as they were chased out of the library. Prashant was always such a tease and so mischievous. And she could see that in Ansh today.
"Dad, I think I would like to take the children to Mumbai this weekend," Yash told his father at the breakfast table.
Everyone at the table was surprised. Aarti almost dropped the tray that she holding. Yash had not mentioned anything about going anywhere this weekend. In fact, after that discussion about her inability to be a good mother three days ago, they have not said much to each other.
"Well..well'This is good news. Of course you all should go on a holiday," Suraj Scindia said as he exchanged a look of bewilderment with his wife. This was unexpected. They have both been wondering if this marriage was working out fine for Yash and Aarti. This is a good sign he hoped.
Yash informed his family that he would book the tickets and made the necessary arrangement. Before he left for work, he told Aarti to pack the stuffs as they would be leaving that night to Mumbai.
"Oh wow, this is such a good break for you Aarti. Have you decided what to pack? Leave the household chores with me," Vidhi told Aarti excitedly. She still could not believe that Yash initiated a holiday with the family. He barely spoke to Aarti in the family's presence and Vidhi had been wondering if there was a problem when Yash questioned her about Aarti's behavior around the children. But she guessed all is well since they are going on a holiday.
Aarti could tell that everyone in the household was excited that Yash wanted to bring his family for a vacation. Aarti knows everyone probably thought that this is a sign that things are progressing fine between them. But little did they realise that Yash has yet to accept her and Ansh as part of his family.
"Mummy, I want to bring along this jacket," Payal insisted as Aarti was packing the children clothes. The children were over the moon that they are going for a holiday. Not that Aarti think they know what it means. Ansh and Payal were taking out clothes from the wardrobe and throwing them into the suitcase. The way they packed, it seemed like they were moving house instead of going for a weekend vacation.
"Ansh and Payal, Mummy will pack your things. Why don't you all go and draw something?"
The children reluctantly agreed after insisting on what are the stuffs that they need to bring along. Judging by the stuffs they need, Aarti guess even ten luggages would not be enough. And Palak is not even home from school to list down her "must haves."
While packing, Aarti wondered why Yash had not discussed with her before making the decision to go on a trip. She thought he said that it was a joint effort to be parents and they needed to support each other. Is this how it was going to be? He makes all the decisions and she just supports his ideas? Her phone rang and she was surprised to find Yash on the other end. This was the first time ever they have spoken on the phone.
"Aartiji, have you packed the stuffs? I know this is very last minute decision but it is just that I could get away for this weekend and I thought.." Yash tried to explain himself.
"I am packing the stuffs right now Yashji," Aarti answered.
"I know that I should have discussed this with you. But honestly I just made this decision in the morning. It was a last minute decision."
"Hmmm.." that was all Aarti said although in her mind she wondered if he just woke up this morning and suddenly decided to go on a trip? Is that what he meant?
"Mummy!" Palak screamed and hugged Aarti as she returned from school. Her brother and sister had told her about them going to Mumbai and how they have packed their stuffs and she was excited.
"Mummy! I want to pack my things too! Ansh and Payal have already packed their things!" Palak insisted and tugged at Aarti's pallu.
Yash could hear the excitement in Palak's voice.
"Yashji, is there anything else? I need to put down the phone now," Aarti said as she saw Palak opening the wardrobe and throwing out clothes on the bed.
"No Aartiji. Hmmm'Goodbye."
"Ok." Aarti said and put down the phone as she approached Palak to explain to her that she had packed all the necessary items.
That night they bade goodbye to everyone and made their way to the airport. In the plane, Aarti was surprised when Yash said that Ansh would sit with him while Palak and Payal would sit with Aarti. Palak and Payal had never been on the plane before and Payal was scared when the plane took off. Palak and Aarti tried to calm her down while Ansh was excited for the adventure.
When they reached the Mumbai airport, Ram Dulare, their housekeeper for the Mumbai beach house was there to pick them up. The ride to the beach house took almost 30 minutes and the children filled the journey with their endless chatters about what they want to do in Mumbai. Ansh even teased Payal for being a baby as she was scared when the plane took off. Yash and Aarti were contented listening to their conversation.
When they finally arrived, the kids ran down from the car towards the house. Aarti trailed after them while Yash handled the luggages. Madhu, Ram Dulare's wife, was at the door to welcome them. As Aarti stepped into the house, she could not help but notice the house is magnificent and everything looked opulent from the gleaming wood floors covered in loving throw rugs to the sheer curtains billowing like mist on the wall of floor to ceiling windows. The furnishings were modern and sparse. The children, with their boundless energy, were already running around in the free space.
"The bedrooms are upstairs. Let's go up," Yash said as he stepped into the house with the luggages. He brought them to the children's home. Aarti told him that she would tuck them into bed since it is already very late at night. Aarti made them changed into their pyjama's and brushed their teeth.
When Yash stepped into the children's room after washing up and changing his clothes, he was greeted by the sound of laughters coming from the bathroom attached to their room. He walked over and saw that Aarti and the children were flickering water at one and other.
"Daddy! Come play with us!" Ansh screamed as he saw Yash at the bathroom door.
"No, you all come out from the bathroom now. It is time for bed," Aarti said and ushered the children to the bed.
"Aartiji, why don't you go and wash up while I put them to bed?" Yash said and told Aarti that he had left her luggage in their room next door.
Aarti kissed the children goodnight and went into their room. She saw Yash's luggage was beside hers as she unzipped hers to take out her night clothes. There is only one bed in this room and there is no sofa. Has Yash thought of their sleeping arrangement?
