Aww :)) I'm most honoured to be your IF bestie :D
I have read your update, and I found it really very, very beautiful and moving. I will comment in detail later.. but very well done!! :D
...
Edit: I'm back! Sorry, I was doing other stuff at the same time, and I didn't want to write a rushed comment.
Hands down, the best part of your writing is the way you weave magic with your descriptions! I probably have said this before, but I don't think the point can be over-emphasised.. I'll say it again and again. Your writing is so evocative, I truly feel like I can see everything before me as I read. And I relish every word, because I can see the amount of effort and thought you have put into creating the world of your FF, and I just can't help but slow down to take it all in.
This comment sounds lame, so I'll just refer to specific bits of your story now, to make the comment seem eloquent and boost its cool quotient.. hehe. The description of the rose was lovely (see, what I said about my comment being lame.. lol). The symbolism of life that you pour into it, the veins imagery, wow! I wonder where you make these connections from! When I read any one of your metaphors, it seems so apt, and yet it's not some run-of-the-mill cliche done to death. It's really refreshing!
And my favouritest favourite bit - the way she and her son bond over the rose. You really do mould yourself into your character as you write, don't you? I get the feeling you've got a brilliant actress or cinematographer/director in you somewhere. There's no way you could make it so realistic otherwise, without having actually lived through what you write.
Which also makes me realise now.. the hands down best part of your writing is not the descriptions after all.. it's the way you link everything, all the descriptions and images, into a coherent whole. It takes the reader by surprise, because what one would think is just a rose given to a person to cheer her up, takes on a role that is so much more important. It's like what you did with the mangalsutra in the last update - you imbibe life into "things" and make them tell the tale.
And story-wise, I just love where this is going! Yash is such a darling. I love how he is, like the Yash of the show, helpful and reassuring to the point of going out of his way to take up responsibilities that were never his to begin with. I love how he understands Arti's "broken words," even her silences. And I love how he tries to protect her from pain, giving her the rose but only after having removed its thorns. It is small gestures like this, or like his just reaching for her hands as they rest over her stomach.. that make the unnamed, unspoken relationship they share so beautiful.
And in the Prashant portion, you so poignantly describe Arti's memories of him, that it all seems real and utterly heart-breaking. I felt like I was (re)living it with her. Very powerful writing!
Brilliant update! I can't wait for more! You said a few hours. Is that, like, errm, now? :D
