Ok GC said almost nary a word in today's episode but he stole the show for me! He was absolutely briliiant in that scene with his father, so much so that I will just have to talk about it before everything else! The first really nuanced detail that I noticed in his performance today was his reluctance to come near his father. He knows what this is about and he knows that he cannot oppose his father ie, he knows that he is finally trapped. I love how he didn't sit down until his father had told him twice, as though silently rebelling every moment that he could.
His father's speech was a contradiction in terms but one that makes perfect sense in the context of an Indian joint family. In the same breath he says that it doesn't look good for a man to weep so freely over a woman and that while women can live without men, the opposite is just not possible. He also acknowledged that Yash was handling everything well on his own, but that it was his sadness that he couldn't bear. But what he said about moving on was true. It is truly not healthy to be in a relationship with someone who can't give back, or "knock on a door that has closed forever". Beautiful dialogues!
I loved the expression of cold indifference on Yash's face as though he was almost contemptuous of his father's complete lack of understanding. It felt like he just let the words wash over him, not really paying attention to their meaning and finally as soon as his father lets him go he walks off, not even glancing at the picture. So he agrees by not objecting because he can't. Here I also have to mention that tiny barely visible motion that GC does with his adam's apple when the character is battling a lump in his throat. He does it so beautifully that it is imperceptible and yet adds a subtle pain and tragedy to the character and the scene.
My, my did he look yummy in that white kurta. ☺️ Again, hats off to the wardrobe team! His scene with his daughters was again silent but very sweet and poignant. Here I was totally convinced by him as a father. I could literally feel his heart bursting with love for them and that was a great moment.
The scene with the three brothers was one of my favourites today! We haven't seen much of the eldest brother and I loved his shararti with the whisky and the cameraderie between the three brothers. I also loved Yash's conversation with each of his brothers where we once again see that Pratik understands his situation and his pain the best of all the family. He takes time out of his own jubilation to empathise with Yash and that hidden depth is what makes me love the character. Of all the people, Yash has been most forthcoming about his existing relationship with Arpita today with his elder brother. He almost tells him the truth but either he realises how strange it is, or is overcome with emotion and walks away. 😭 You really feel for the dilemma of his character.
The parts with Aarti were more establishment of what we have already seen. Her relationship with Shobha was once again beautifully portrayed and it is heartbreaking to see that she chose to trust her Ma and think about the rishta and BAM again she is hit with betrayal and rejection. Then again, I am glad these issues are being addressed before the marriage. I look forward to seeing where this thing with Ansh goes because honestly I was wondering how that wouldn't be an issue.
I was disappointed in Yash's mother today. I thought she was better than all that 'ehsaan' crap but it seems like she is showing her saas side now. I understand where she is coming from but have no idea where she is going and how she is getting there. She thinks Aarti will be a great mother for Yash's kids because she is already a mother. She loves her as a mother BUT she wants to separate her from her child. 😕 Say WHA? I am eager to see how Ansh finally gets assimilated into the plan here because Aarti is NOT going to leave him behind! Also Aarti's statement that she is not a submissive bahu was heartening but also signals friction with her future MIL. I can't wait to see what Yash has to say. My ears are extra open because he says so little.
Finally, to be honest I thought the song was a bit much! I think it would have been far more effective to just show Aarti singing the song naturally, with KS' voice, rather than having the 1960s recording jump into a sensitive scene all of a sudden. Of course the song was appropriate, I just didn't like the presentation of it. I am also glad Aarti is such a little eavesdropper! 😆 That means much more drama and much less melodrama.
I literally CAN'T wait for tomorrow!
