Lovely breakdown of Yash's character so far Mayu! 😊
Well, that was a pretty action packed episode I have to say! I felt that it had the content of 3-4 episodes, as does every day so far actually, so when we gather to analyse a new episode I am always like, "that just happened yesterday?" 😆
Anyway for my own reference and yours, if you are struggling to keep up like me, here is a list of things that happened today so I can go through them one by one otherwise I might go crazy with all the new information!
Introduction of Yash's family - the whole enchilada
So finally we get to meet the entirety of Yash's family (I say finally like we have been waiting weeks, but what can I say, it really does feel that way), including the men with whom we had previously not had the chance to interact. So poor Vidhi is the only bahu of the house. I can see why she is bogged down and might be late with the pooja on some days! The interactions between her and her husband were adorable though and I expected to see sadness or bitterness in Yash's eyes but there was none. He seemed merely indulgent of their whimsical banter which I guess shows that he is pretty happy and peaceful in his current relationship...with his dead wife. He is only shaken out of this when people suggest remarriage and otherwise on a pretty even keel. However, it is not really healthy to be in a relationship with someone who is not there anymore as they can't give anything back and he will have to come out of this equilibrium, which will be painful at first with all the guilt and pain of letting go, but will eventually be healthy for him to continue living in the present. At this point he is refusing to let his wound heal and proudly showing it off, rather than letting it heal.
The advance/hockey stick/phone conversation fiasco
OMG! This was absolutely wonderful! 🤣
I loved Aarti in this episode and all the things we found out about her. She is clearly a fighter and not at all the sehmi type we took her for after the first episode. I love how instead of agreeing to their demands and calling her FIL out, she decided this was a problem that she could deal with herself, and how! So she was the hockey captain in college. To me that rang true with the observation I made yesterday about her being interesting to Prashant because she was unattainable in some way and that she seemed the type to scare men off (I didn't think that would come true quite so literally!). It sounds to me like she was a total tomboy who cared naught for boys and romance and Prashant made it his job to make her care. When people who are reluctant to love or just oblivious to it, do fall in love, they fall hard and it looks like that is what happened in Aarti's case as well.
I also loved how Pratik was trying to be the smooth macho man but eventually went running from her danda! It was funny that he didn't bother to tell her that he was Scindia's son and just told her that he was sent by his dad, which caused her to take them for gundas. I also loved Ansh in this scene. 😆 But then again, it shows how unweildy he is, a point they are stressing again and again which makes me think it is an intentional story arc they are opening.
And...the first verbal interaction between our two leads! I loved it. Clearly they are both people who are very imaandar and want the right thing done. Aarti doesn't let Yash get a word in edgewise and I love how he patiently heard her out despite the fact that he understood the truth of the situation long before her rant was finished. He was once again established as a man of few words, who likes to solve problems with the least drama and hassle possible.
The little interaction between Yash and Pratik was also loads of fun. I love how Yash actually has someone to whom he can complain about the incessant demand for his remarriage. Also, Pratik doesn't take him too seriously which is good for a person like Yash. He seems the type to have mad angry outbursts that he regrets in a matter of minutes so someone like Pratik is needed to brush off the confrontations with his gussa and keep talking to him. That for me is what marks their closeness.
The conversation between Shobha and her hubby (forgot his name already)
Shobha is so smart! She knows the way to Aarti's heart is through Ansh and she is ready to take out all the lowest tricks in the book to get Aarti to meet prospective grooms. The FIL is not so ready to stoop as low as using Ansh, possibly because of the reasons he mentioned but also maybe because he knows that Aarti just might give in to a second marriage for Ansh's sake and he doesn't want to create that 'majboori' for her but rather have her marry out of her desire. It was so lovely to see them talk and worry like all parents do.
The Rahudayal fiasco
Poor Aarthi! That was an unfortunate thing to happen to her. And it was indicative of what society thinks divorced women "deserve" 😡. That guy was absolutely despicable with his sense of entitlement over her and his lustful glances. I couldn't blame her for slapping him, even if she did know the situation! And the guy clearly did not take well to the rejection and the heavy blow to his inflated ego! 😲 He honestly thought he was doing her a favour?? I hate that they literally had to run away from him as he would not let it go. Unfortunately, this happens a lot in arranged marriage systems and Aarti is lucky to have the support she does from her parents (in law).
Maafi/anaat conversation
Aha! Another revelation here. This really clears one of the bigger questions I had up. So Aarti is an orphan who was accepted into this family through her marriage. I can see why Prashant's parents would be ticked off when he just left her and I am glad they refused to let her become an orphan again! And again, I love this very organic parent-child relationship. Many don't even have such a relationship with their biological parents and this is a bond formed when Aarti was already quite old so it is remarkable! The same way they worry for her feelings, she worries for their naam and izzat. There is absolutely no ego about this relationship.
So dargah...
Train scenePhew. How did ALL of this fit into less than 30 mins??
Here again, they show Ansh as being unwieldy and doing his own manmaani all the time. Aarti is really not able to control him or exercise any real authority. This could either be because of her guilt, or because we haven't seen her snap just yet.
AAnnd their first physical encounter! I loved Yash's world-weary expression when he said excuse me. I sometimes feel the same way on trains, or on the road when people are being excessively obstructive. 🤔😆 That awkward little moment in the corridor was so naturally performed that I can't even blame it for being a bit cliched! I also loved Aarti's sorry in that where you can tell she kind of feels like a huge idiot for a second (been there too).
Precap
Interesting, so Pratik sets the wheels in motion for bhaiyya and gundi! I think he probably understands Yash better than most of the family, despite his lighthearted exterior, because he is able to brush off Yash's anger easily. He is impressed by how the "gundi" handles his brother on the phone, obviously and I think sees what Yash needs in her, both from his point of view and from the family's. I am loving this idea of even the youngsters being involved in every level of the family. And the elders not being oblivious to girlfriends, and laughing at marital banter at the dinner table. This is a sweet family, except maybe for the sketchy aunt/sister thing. 😕
