Sam, I always love your analysis, and though I have never commented before on one, you can probably tell from my avatar pic, which forum I am a silent reader of. Usually I have been too busy with school and work to post in any forum discussions, but it just so happened that PV's first episode started on a US gov holiday, which means that I was free.😊
I agree with Jyo that they probably dragged the epi a bit so that GC's entry comes tomorrow, but I also felt like they kind of went with a typical first episode formula. Even though the concept is fresh, ZeeTV may not have been willing to go too much out on a limb, and I don't really blame them.
From the time that Mohan's mother started thinking of Aarti for her bahu, all I could say was, "Really? You come to someone else's wedding and start picking up women for your son? And then you get upset when it goes wrong?"
Not that I want to sympathize with her, because there really was no need for her to make such a tamasha in a public place, but I wonder if she as a mother, is feeling a little desperate to get her son married. After all, she did mention that he had said no to several girls, and maybe she is worried that people will start to think something is wrong with him. (They wouldn't be wrong. All she has to do is look at herself to know what his problem is.) I kind of felt like she is one of those people who like to take out their frustrations and wrong doings on others, rather than admit that the problem is with them.
Yay for Shobha, I think that is Aarti MIL's name, for putting that natanki in her place! It would have been much more sensible if the woman had just said she was under a misunderstanding, taken the money back, and left without creating a fuss. However, obviously the CV's wanted to use her to represent society's attitude toward divorced women, and as a foil for the kind and caring MIL.
I liked how they showed the woman assuming that Shobha was Aarti's mother, as people would expect that a mother would defend her daughter, even if she was in the wrong. It obviously came as a shock to the nasty lady that she was not the mother, but the saas, for what saas would support her bahu over her own son, even if said son was completely in the wrong? That is the way this woman would behave to her future daughter-in-law, so Aarti has had a lucky escape from this nasty mother/son duo.
The precap makes it pretty obvious to anyone who didn't already know, that Aarti's Punar Vivah will happen with the "stranger" (GC😳) who caused the flower petals to fall on her. That was a very typically used sign to indicate future marriage, but it's Indian Tv, so it is to be expected. I won't be able to watch live tomorrow, like I did today, but I will be interested to see exactly how it is that Yash gets up there to so conveniently be able to drop those flowers on his future bride.😃
