Borna, Kratika has truly been a discovery for me as well, because this is the first time I have fallen so hard for a heroine in an Indian show. Usually they annoy the crap out of me, because they're either unrealistically chirpy, so much so that nothing seems to effect them, or they're way too OTT seedhi saadhi, and both these extreme levels of characterizations frustrate me because it's just not real!
I have many stories to share about my previous Indian show experiences and their heroines. I am glad I went through that progression since those shows from the past have definitely shaped my preferences now in a way...The OTT spectrum of dukhiyaari-abla-naari types on one end and the super-chirpy-to-the-point-of-being-immature types on the other end just doesn't cut it for me anymore, no matter now much I may adore the actress in question. And even the ones who seem to fall in the middle fall prey to injustice through execution or mediocre acting or the absence of a real plot. So many things need to fall into place for me to like a show and stay attached to it.
With all these new concepts shows that have started airing in the past 6-8 months or so, for me to be attracted to it, I need to see an unorthodox female lead (from your typical Indian soap standards at least) because most of the focus is on them, and unless there is a freshness of attitude, the "new" concept can't do squat! And this is the main reason why PV immediately struck a chord with me, not only was it dealing with a unique idea, the likes of which I had yet to see, but also because of the way Aarti's character was sketched out. She is a natural, real character, who has flaws as well as strong points. She is balanced, and Kratika plays every shade of her to perfection, bringing her to life in a different way with every passing episode! I can't even begin to tell you how grateful I am that Kratika decided to remain on break until a truly interesting script came her way, with a character that she felt is out of the mold. The fact that both her and GC both signed the show without a second's hesitation as soon as the script was explained to them, just increases my faith tenfold in how this story is going to unfold!
Ditto. For me, as you already know, the concept was one of the things in the back of my mind - as in I did find it intriguing but I had other apprehensions - but as soon as I saw Kratika in that particular promo, that's what made the scales come crashing down in favor of watching PV. Watching her interviews before the first episode really helped me brush off all the initial criticisms that Aarti seemed to be yet another typical heroine because I knew from what Kratika had said that this wasn't all that there is to Aarti's personality. At every point where people have written her off as being "boring" or "repetitive" or "crying too much" I've noticed that there are so many shades of emotions (that's where my post on Shades of Sorrow came from) and Kratika conveys every aspect of Aarti beautifully in every single scene!
@bold: Ah, I know!!! I think it's quite funny how Gurmeet was all set to go on a break and took this show up immediately while Kratika was on a self-imposed break and took this up immediately! They both heard the concept and agreed, and I can't thank them enough for that! Especially Kratika...My GOD, what would this show be like without her?! I, for one, would not be watching it, that much I can say with certainty!
On an aside, I think it's so cute that Kratika was waiting for a romantic show after JKR...And of all shows that she might have been offered, this was the one she really wanted to do! What a show to be a part of! 😳 I can't imagine what I would've missed out on if she wasn't in this! I probably wouldn't have known who she was! 😕 That's just a really, really sad thought! I'm a self-confessed Kratika fanatic and the best thing is, her body of work can't be taken lightly because she actually has come a long way in terms of acting prowess! Add to that the fact that she has reached a point this early in her career where she can actually sit around and wait for something challenging to come to her indicates her priorities and what she feels she can contribute to the industry and give to her audiences! She's gone from one show to the next very quickly, though, and that's also something to keep in mind!
I personally can't wait to see Aarti's character broaden it's horizons even more as it progresses and grow, because it will give Kratika an opportunity to display the many different tangents of her talent. She is going to evolve into a mother for all three kids, and then as a wife for Yash, and this transformation will be one of the most beautiful things that we'll get to witness here! 😍
There's so much left to happen and it's all going to be fantastic! The mother-child bonding will happen first and I can't wait to see this onscreen! And offscreen, too, since the 3 kids are going to drive her crazy, I bet! 😆 At least Divyam will...Her little Singham!
