Although it irks us to see Raj making a fool of himself and people are upset that he is being selfish, this development is not entirely outside the scope of his character. Even at the very beginning, we saw his cold and silent treatment of Sarita. For 10 long years, she was not only invisible to him, but he was passive aggressive towards her, and indirectly blamed her for being trapped in his marriage. He saw her being treated like a servant in his own house, and taking the brunt of his mother's wrath and bitterness. He witnessed his own younger sisters ridiculing her, and visiting relatives cursing her for being childless. Yet he did nothing. Sarita slept on the floor and did all the housework dutifully, and Raj did not even have the common courtesy to regard her as a human being. Even when she was fed up and decided to leave him, he did not even have the decency to see her off at the bus stop, choosing to send his assistant, instead.

Yes, we saw Raj turning over a new leaf, and paying Sarita some attention, thanks to Divya's intervention. I think the person in the forum who said that Raj had the "pygmalion" complex was right on. Raj falls in love (rather in obsession) with his own creation. He gave Sarita a makeover, and fell in love with what he had created. It had nothing to do with Sarita. Raj has another interesting psychological trait. He always wants what he cannot have. For 10 long years, he pined for a Divya that he could not get, and now he is obsessing over a Sarita who is already married to someone else. I see a fear of intimacy in Raj. He is the kind of person who feels safe in loving people that are safely out of bounds. This way, he can hide the devdas role of the spurned lover, who has no interest in moving on with his life, without needing to confront his fears or insecurities.

It will be interesting to see what happens when he is spurned by Sarita. Will Raj finally be able to face his shadow-demons, or will he go the route of revenge and continue to make a nuisance of himself? I certainly hope for the former, as I would like the CVs to move the plot differently than the formulaic "badlaa" track.

Loved reading your character analysis of Raj and I can see now why you think that how he is behaving now is the norm for him.
I have forgotten some of the incidents you mentioned (in particular the bus incident when Sarita had decided to go back home) between SaRa.
The only thing that doesn't make sense is his love for Divya for 2 years prior (I'm assuming it was 2 because just recently Divya mentioned 12 years) to him getting married to Sarita. If he was in fact pygmalion then him being in love with Divya prior to their marriage doesn't make sense (unless of course he fell in love with her after he taught her how to put on lipstick and what not😆😆). However I do believe he's gotten used to wanting what he can't have as he lived this way for 10 years and it's now become a habit for him😆😛

I'm seriously starting to dislike Raj. Arghhh he is starting to get on my nerves. Wow he's so selfish that he can't see pass anyone but himself. He needs a reality check! Sarita needs to SLAP him into his senses. Maybe that will open his eyes. Whenever Raj comes onscreen now I just cringe. Move the story forward now.. please. For crying out loud we can see two stories developing but the CVs are killing both. 😡

Thank you all for your posts and comments.

@Parm Yes, I do believe that Raj fell in love not with Divya, but the divya he created --the one he taught how to act, how to put on lipstick etc.
