I am wondering whether misguiding the audience regarding who the leads are or what the story is about some new fashion in the TV industry. I don't mean story or characters changing after a show has been on air for some time but the story right form the beginning.Recently there was a show on a channel that came at 7.30 pm time slot. The main male lead played by a very popular actor got sidelined, while the parallel male lead played by not so popular actor got importance. Anyway the show shut down within couple of months of being launched. This PH's own show on another channel is getting shut down just after few months of being launched. There also the main male lead played by a well established and popular actor got sidelined and finally was killed off and a new lead was brought in. In another channel, the so called main female lead was again sidelined and then I read that she has left the show because her character was turning negative. That show is still on air but not doing great on the TRP chart. That's why I was wondering whether this is some new trend in the Indian TV industry.

@bold.. agree wid u!!
I've seen some shows.. same happened der n I had to dump da show... wish CVs change their decision of sidelining divya.. coz we all love her so much

Misti, it seems that the false advertising has become the norm. In the show you mentioned where the lead has been killed, the actor was really good. In fact, he was even joking
that he would make sure in his next contract that it doesn't happen again.
Also, I am wondering about the contracts too. If an actor leaves the show, there is a lot of negative articles about that actor. But when the show sidelines the actor, there is nothing. Weren't there tonnes of articles against the popular actor who left a popular show in the middle.

I blame us audience not the PH or ZEE. I think Rajan Sahi or Shashi Sumeet is the maker of PV. Anyway it is the same people that made Diya Aur Bati Hum. This PH forgets Logic and make a fool of us audience. yet we support them Why? because we like our actors and actresses. So they take advantage of the fans and fan groups. We as audience have to start thinking differently and quit shows that make ur blood pressure rise and gives us depression. The PH and the channels are gaining money and popularity and we are losing hair.

So sad. Indian TV is aging just like we humans do, although there is an upliftment in technolgy which should've made them age backwards Back in 1900s and early 2000s were the glorious years of Indian TV.

Now the PH are trying to compete with each other to broadcast 10 serials at one time, resulting in them mixing up storylines and forgetting things.😡

Assuming Rubina is being sidelined (we don't know for sure if it's transient phase or the final intended direction of the show), I believe you that this might be an attempt to go back to the tried and tested template of sacrificing female lead.
A show that comes so late on TV is primarily for middle aged ladies, mainly housewives - as rest of the folks do not follow shows religiously. Young colleges students, office goers etc. are more likely to watch it on internet . Seeing the TRP ratings nosedive in the first month, instead of understanding the shortcomings of their own script and characterization, the makers probably thought that the concept of lovers outside of wedlock was too bold for the target audience.
With this hallelujah thought, they didn't know what to do with Divya - so they sidelined her and focused on the married pair. Now people had problem with male lead's characterization as well. So, they brought in more repulsive young males (Rohan, American Nerd) so that audience start rooting for Raj (he's better in comparison)
I remember after Kabhi Alvida Na Keha (which I disliked a lot), I read lots of Karan Johar interviews how the audience was not ready for bold concepts. He never accepted that his movie might be a bore for the audience (it was for me). A bitter, defected hero and a nagging, passive and boring heroine - I found them super irritating. Anyways, that's a different story. No offence to that movie's fans by the way - purely personal opinion.

Do not feel like commenting as have exhausted myself for this crap . Above mentioned movie is copy of Hollywood movie with Maryl Streep and Robert De Nero . Hindi movies turns in to more melodrama.

If ratings fall further or do not improve, Divya might be brought back. Or they can brought back Divya as a changed character to glorify Sarita even further.😊 Would Rubina agree to that - she can't decide the storyline but can definitely decide her own terms. Unlike movies, TV stars do not have that much bandwidth to experiment as their entire career (in lead role) would not span more than 4-5 shows (considering shows are long running).
Ruchi, I don't know how much autonomy and say actors have in TV business. It is all the matter of supply and demand. There is too much competition. Also, PH/Channel have the upper hand in deciding on the role of a character. Usually, very few actors in TV industry get a chance to play a lead in more than two shows. Rubina has already played in lead in two shows - one was a super hit and another was a moderate success. She got a chance to play another lead in an existing show, but that show was towards its end and got closed within a month. So technically, this is the fourth show where she got a lead role.
Well that has always been my gripe. People did bash Raj for not giving Sarita a wife's status. But not for not standing by Divya. I feel he has wronged Divya a lot - esp. because he keeps claiming he loves her a lot. According to these shows, a boy's life has many dimensions - love, career, family. For girl, it's all about husband and his family. Sarita disrespected her own parents to prove her great love for Raj when all they were doing was support her - how sick is that! I understand that it's not fair for a girl's parents to intervene between a husband and wife. But Raj-Sarita relationship was never private - everything was on public display. Why can't a girl balance her own and husband's family without doing injustice to either. Also, I read comments that Divya chose career over Raj - why should there be a choice at all? Why can't it be both (as it is for guys). It's high time shows understood the current generation and add more dimensions to their leading ladies' life.
You hit it right. He wronged Divya a lot too. Of course he being a young guy from a dysfunctional family more than likely did not have emotional maturity to take care of a wife who had responsibility of siblings. But if Divya had done what Raj has done - abandon the love at a crucial point and then marry somebody without telling that person about her past and then not giving him wife's rights, she would be reviled right now. Most would be after both the husband and the lover to abandon her and what not. Instead her Raj here is considered a prize whom either Divya or Sarita should win. Divya in fact is being called selfish for choosing her underage siblings over her love.
The girls who choose career over marriage or who wants to have both are considered the bad girls. They do not generate any sympathy from most. Those are the double standards of the viewing public as well. But then I am not sure if viewing public should be considered totally at fault. If all shows show this kind of regressive mentality, viewers probably would choose the lesser of evils so to speak. .
I am sure if a new concept is shown, many would go for that. But very few PH have either the guts or imagination to show something different. All serials are usually recycled by copying ideas from each other.
As far "good girls and bad boys " , well that's been the norm in movies as well. In movie Cocktail, Saif Khan had all the fun in the world and then chose to settle with the good girl. Whereas the bad girl was left all alone. So, yes, society always accepts bad boys far more easily than bad girls. But Divya wasn't shown as a bad girl either - she never came between a married couple. It was Raj who was a problem, not Divya. So, I can't understand why people have problem with Divya's character. Even my MIL who gave up on PV was ticked off by Raj's lack of respect for Sarita (by romancing Divya in their bedroom). She never had any problem with Divya.
I agree that it was Raj who was invading Divya's space. If they had shown this in context of his character (obsession, neediness for Divya because she was the normal one in his life), then it would have been fine. But Raj is now depicted as this great human being who was doing whatever he was doing because of his love for Divya. In almost episode, Sarita is praising him for teaching her love and what not. Sarita is being depicted as this ideal wife who waited for 10 years for her husband to love her. Not many are questioning her for disrespecting her parents or questioning her parents to not look into her life for 10 years. Instead, she is being praised for standing for Raj against her parents. To me, Sarita is coming as somebody who needs therapy because she is a obsessive characters who likes to play victim by hurting herself. But instead according to CVs, she is an ideal wife who will be eventually rewarded by getting the love of Raj.
Unfortunately such regressive shows only send a bad message.
Not only Sarita, but Divya is also shown to abandon her career for a guy. First she did it for Raj and then she was ok doing it for Gaurav too. Now she is shown to want to go back to her TV career because to get away from her love. What nonsense is this? Why isn't it shown that she wants both - love and career?
What you wrote about that movie is unfortunately very true. Bad girls are shown to die to make up for their bad past. In this PH's show that I had watched briefly at a friend's recommendation, there was a side character who came out to be more interesting to me than the lead characters because of the complexity of her character. She wanted both a career and her love and was shown as a more normal typical type of person. But within couple of months, they showed her realizing her folly of wanting a career and she became a one-dimensional typical bahu character.
Same is the case here. Viewers are not abandoning it because the theme is bold 😆 Is there a central theme anymore
😆 Yes, there is - how to get TRPs.
I don't know about other shows at this time slot - this was my first tryst with a TV show (have been forced to watch some episodes for company but never paid attention to characters before) and it didn't go that well 😃. I am back to Indian idol and DID for now. Maybe will watch the show on lord Shiva (read the Shiva trilogy by Amish and am greatly interested in watching any show related to lord Shiva). No idea how good or bad is the show - any feedback 😊?
Ruchi, I have read good reviews of that trilogy. I haven't yet bought the series, so can't comment on it. But I was turned off from the movie version of it because I heard that Karan Johan is going to make a movie on it with Hritik as Shiv.
The TV serial Mahadev has the best Shivji I have ever seen. I watched it for couple of months. I left it when they started dragging the show by showing stories that I have never ever heard of. They are currently playing Ramayan in it, so it may have become good again. But haven't checked it out for some time now. But the actor playing Shiv is very good. If he plays Shiv on Amish's trilogy in movies, I would go for those movies. But Hritik playing Shiv is not working for me.

Neerja, audience are not bigger culprits than the PH/channel as among the crap, they try to choose the best. It is the PH/channel that are much bigger culprits whose only aim is to make money.
