"You are, after all, what you
think. Your emotions are the
slaves to your thoughts, and
you are the slave to your
emotions."
? Elizabeth Gilbert

These words fit our own complex male lead called Raj...i am seeing his life in stages like this ones here:
1. Stage one: its his teenager/college days where his life was ruled by beautiful thoughts abt art, love, divya...he was in love and his love was his master..
2. Stage two: This one is brief but triggered other stages in his life: loss of love and dreams, being an artist loosing this made him goal-less, senseless, lifeless, he was teaching divya to be an actress...loosing her he lost love and art in one go..
3.Stage three: consequence of stage two- his thoughts were ocupied by memories, this one is long and lasted for 10 years...living in memories made him aloof, cold and indeferent to outside world..memories caused hurt and frustration, he was slave to anger, sadness, indiference, hurting other innocents in the process
4.Stage four:. i can call this the awakening...seeing divya brought thoughts of passion and promises, concern and especially love...the past has brought humanity in him, although by manipulation he has seen his faults and became slave to Guilt...this is the current stage Raj is in...he is guilty for his behaviour for hurting sarita, guilty for still wanting to love Divya when she played with his emotions, guilty for wanting to b happy when sarita isnt...
This is how i see Raj now when he was angered and hesitant to call divya, when he was scared for sarita's PV..he is just as his thoughts are: confused...
In the precap too, i feel he is been protective about sarita, a stanger holding her hands at first meeting...what if the guy hasnt the best intentions...Raj doesnt want to fail again by sarita.

Amazing quote, amazing post 😊. I think your analysis of Raj and various stages in his life has brought more clarity to his character (at least for me) than any scene, any dialogue or any background song shown so far 👏.
Since I don't see the show, I am treating it as a book - one chapter each day (in the form of WU) and then I love to read what you, Angie, Misti, aimf and a few others think of the episode - I am actually finding it very entertaining that way. Thanks!

Myra you have nicely described Raj. He is a slave to his emotions and that is why his emotions are of extreme importance to him and everyone is secondary to his emotions. In that way he is pretty constant and does not discriminate.😉

Myra, I like how you have explained Raj because creatives have failed to show his view point at all. Whatever they have shown doesn't show him in much good light. But I like your progression from innocence to disillusionment to stupor to awakening.
I too would say that it is not jealousy. It would be concern for somebody who has lived with you for 10 years and has tolerated a lot. Also, it seemed pretty strange that in a conservative setting suddenly the guy would make such a forward move. Even if it was somebody from a girl's side, they wouldn't like it because they are not girl friend/boy friend. It is just the stage where the woman has not even agreed to the proposal yet.
But I am sure that it would be another juvenile way of showing jealosy (and hence hidden love) of Raj for Sarita.

Juvenile??? 😆 Well, I agree. I will die of shock if they show that Raj is in love with Sarita - okay am exaggerating but it would be a shocker for sure.

Btw, what forward move you are talking about?
