Just finished watching all six episodes of Prithvi Vallabh. I must say I am quite impressed with the story so far. The serial is no way flawless, the screenplay could be little tighter, certain things which could have been avoided. But these are just little things and in no way impaired my enjoyment of the show.
Of course, the first two episodes were just fine. They were just the prologue to lay foundation of the story, characters, and their agendas. But the serial got really interesting from episode 3, and this is just not because of the Munj and Mrinal's meeting. As a music enthusiast, the serial does have some very good background music.
Every episode, every scene has been adding layers upon layers to all the characters. They are becoming three dimensional. Every one has an agenda, a duality, and a conflict:both internal and external.
Jakkala is interesting. Is she a lonely, scorned woman? Or a cunning opportunist? Or both? A neglected queen, defeated in the front of her sister-in-law's ambitions. A wife who has to be fight for her husbands time and affection, first with Mrinal and then with Kosha. Or a prideful woman, who is using Tailap just to further her agenda to become an empress? Time will tell.
Kosha, a courtesan in love, fighting a losing battle, shackled by her birth and society. How long will it take, how many more humiliations will it take for her love to turn into something vengeful? How long will it take for someone to use her, for she is a blind spot for Tailap.
Tailap, stuck between the agendas of three woman. His queen wants his attention, and his complete attention. Quite tired of her pettiness. His sister wants him for her own revenge. And Kosha wants his love, to be expressed in front of the world. How long will it take for him to resent his sister, because of his love for Kosha? The seeds have already been planted. What is HIS ambition in life? So far he is sister's weapon, his queen's expectations, and his lover's love. But who IS he?
Quite an intriguing triangle, these three.
Mrinal, a child still stuck in her trauma, her nightmare. A fire burning with anger, rage, and frustrations. A woman blind to everyone expect her revenge. Her only weakness is in the form of an innocent Vilas. She see in Vilas, a young, happy, budding woman, full of laughter and dreams, what she herself could have been if not for that tainted night. A cynic who has lost her soul, her heart under the pile of anguish which still haunts her, day and night;that black night, forever holding her in its vicious circle. How long until she understands the line between vengeance and justice?
Munj, a naive idealist, dreaming of an utopia. A romantic, seeing the world in black and white, seeing good in everything and everyone. Yes, he has seen evil people. But, has he understood the grey? Has he understood that people are complex, they are not binary? Will he be able to empathize with the person who has harmed his country and his father?
The story is full of duality. Vengeance and Justice, Cynicism and Idealism, Love and Hate, Selflessness and Agendas, Mind and Soul. Everything has to meet in the middle. And therein lies the conflicts, both external and internal.
