i totally disagree with u...and disagree with ppl who r saying u should follow their rules if u r in their house... here gandhi's eat vegeterian n everybody saying hetal should follow them..wat if gandhi's eats only NV and hetal/karan should eat NV if they r vegeterians? ppl can eat vegetrian though they r Non vegetrians ...wat abt ppl who r vegetrians ..can they force them to eat NV just becoz it is their house rule to cook NV daily n eat the same? bukwas...totally ridiculous n logic less.. wat d hell they r showing ...n I pity ppl who r just expressing their views for the sake of characters which they like or dislike... one should always respect others feelings... if they wants to eat something which others dont like they should allow them n hetal didnt ask them cook or eat wat she prepares...someone can adjust the place or any other thing..but for food no one can adjust ... If anybody comes to ask n me to eat which i dont like i vl never... And vl like never eat if they dont prepare it properly...I would prefer to stay hungry rather eating which i dont like and would glad to cook something which i like...

If it is for one day or two days can adjust ...like if i go to somebody's place and have lunch/dinner ..fine... If i am staying over thr can never ever able to do that..
if u r not troubling them making those ppl to eat which they dont like that is different... wat a big deal if they cook it on their own... my self a non vegeterian and my roomie is a vegeterian ..
believe me she dont even touch the dishwasher scrub if i use it for cleaning non vegeterian vessels...at the same i respects her feelings and keep the things away from her ...

You seem to have tremendous confidence that your thoughts are grown up and mature 😉 Well , well , Keep them up 👍🏼

That said , living with a roomie and living with a family that practises religion diligently is WAY different . Has that struck you ? Your roomie , bcoz of practical needs has no option but to adjust with room mates that come and go .

Home is a totally different matter . There one can exercise his or her options and lay down ground rules as it is the BASE of the lifestyle they choose to have for a lifetime .

Those who have built that home , those who have slogged for years for it and In it , much before Hetal was BORN and even came in the picture , r the ones who decide what THEIR ground rules will be . Whether they want to change their lifestyle or not as some youngsters now opine differently is entirely upto THEM , they have EARNED that right . Whether they want onions in the house or eggs , or object to alcohol being served in parties thrown in their house etc is entirely THEIR choice .

The youngsters who find their thoughts bakwas and stupid and narrow minded should get up and walk out and buy a house of their own and lay down their progressive rules in THEIR domain . No need to listen to their stupid thoughts .

What the youngsters can MOST emphatically NOT DO is force THEIR progressive thoughts down their aged throats . Coz AGE DESERVES SOME RESPECT .

This does not mean AGE can be dictatorial . In all other matters , you can fight Old Age . But in matters of FOOD and RELIGIOUS BELIEFS , One must NEVER HURT AGED PEOPLE and Make them DELIBERATELY UNCOMFORTABLE .

Hetal GREW UP IN THAT HOUSE . She and Karan cannot walk into a smoothly run household where many elders exist and start upsetting their ground rules . Let Karan also understand , he has made a big Hoo Haa of his so called insults in Bedi house ...and Hetal has cribbed cribbed and cribbed about how many adjustments she had to do in Bedi House . Let her understand that its not just Bedi House but even her MAAYKA , the house where she grew up , demands adjustments . That NO ONE escapes it ...One HAS to adjust in ANY JOINT FAMILY .

The only family that does NOT demand adjustments is your OWN NUCLEAR FAMILY . And even there , Hetal will be rudely surprised as she will understand on what OTHER LEVELS she will have to adjust by slogging her butt off .

So let her go and get her nuclear home and do onion parathas .

Now for yor non veg example . Its extreme , of course . But I have todate NEVER seen any non vegetarian household forcing a vegetarian to eat non veg . In such households , The handful vegetarians opt for the veg items prepared and eat them or cook them themselves . But these vegetarians r different ...they have grown up smelling Non veg from childhood .However their personal tastes incline more towards vegetarian food . So they opt for the veg items cooked in the house , and eat it .

But the vegetarians who grow up not even experiencing the smell of non veg ,feel queasy and nauseated by even looking at it or smelling it , its NOT easy for them .

The serial Pratigya has addressed this issue . Pratigya , a vegetarian becomes bahu of a non vegetarian household . Nobody forces her to eat non veg as u have asked in ur post . They simply go on eating as they were USED TO FOR YEARS . She eats the veg items cooked or cooks her own food .

Her bhabhi Komal eats non veg ...relishes it infact . But that house is vegetarian . So Komal goes out to eat it or visits her maayka when she feels like it .

Whether the family is Vegetarian or Non vegetarian , Onion eaters or Non Onion Garlic eaters , the system that has been there for years should not be wrecked bcoz youngsters barge in with their progressive thoughts and expect all to make way for them . Progression is not disrespect of elders , Let us not confuse the two issues . And respecting Elders is not bowing before dictatorship . If at all change has to be there , it has to be remembered that the young are more malleable , as one grows older one becomes more and more set in his or her ways of living . At 70 or 65 THEY CANNOT CHANGE . Neither will Karan and Hetal if they become 70 . So easy to judge Baa at this age but when Hetal will turn 70 I shudder to think what specimen she will be as she is so NON ADJUSTING even at this age .

it was a no-sense time slot filler!
don't understand why karan and hetal are staying with Gandhi family. the master must have earned big to support his non-working son, free loader daughter and son in law, and now granddaughter and her husband.

Kool you have said what I wanted to say...all I would like to add is that yes...we don't expect a veg person to come to a non-veg house and start eating no-veg. But you are forgetting the non-veg people don't have any restrictions. They can eat as they please or desire vs a veg person who has some restrictions according to the type of veg you are (multiple types you see). Thus, again we come back to respect. To ask a non-veg to sacrifice a few days without eating meat is NOT WRONG! Because they can eat vegi food without a problem as they eat everything...but you can't do that to a veg person. Its like asking someone that has a peanut allergy to have peanuts...otherwise its disrespectful. They have restriction whether that be a personal choice, religious choice or family rule. Bedi's have done it multiple times for Gandhi's. I live in Texas, USA and majority are no-veg here, its all about steak and BBQ here...but every time we go to a friends house (american friends) they allwaayyysss make sure they make something vegi. Why? They respect out culture. So then in that case, Hetal is Hindu! And born and raised in that family. Again the idea of eating veg, non-veg, onions, no onions, eggs, no eggs, is a personal belief and thus not right nor wrong...but to respect the other's belief is something we can control and we should...

I think Hetal is the best person to show Gandhi family that some of their rules or religion is totally meaningless, one doesn't become pure by not eating onions and garlic, a person becomes pure by good deeds and thoughts. The reason Indian society was ruled by foreigners is that we forgot true spiritualism and respect for all (including so called lower class) and spend all out time making sure the kitchen is clean from lower class and some kind of food so that we are more pure than our neighbors..

I am sure Hinduism is bigger than being pure by not eating onions and garlic..it is about sprituality seeing god in everybody including masterji..being a kind person and accepting all human being and food as equal..hindus should come out of this kind of false, useless purity and morality. The change starts from a family by just accepting that onions don't pollute the kitchen..

This is the time to challenge these kind of rituals..Baa should adopt other ways such as helping the poor. No age is old to bring about change..I could see pui changing because of Hetal.

In answer to the forummer who was talking about her western friends..Btw, when the western person asks if you are vegetarian that have no concept of impure or pure..they are doing it for health reason..they will never ever think that non-veg is polluting..actually they will be very offended if you tell them that you require a seperate kitchen..

How do u know that a person becomes pure by good deeds and thoughts??? Can you prove it. Can anyone prove it? Just like no one can prove that you can become UNpure by onions/garlic...same goes about the notion that we stay pure by good deeds and thoughts. IT IS ALL JUST BELIEFS...its what you believe in. In that case we can't even prove that there is God, yet we believe in it (most of us). Does that make it right or wrong? Of course not. So how can this be any different. I also don't believe that eating onion/garlic can cause any spiritual harm, but that is just my belief, am I right wrong I don't know. Thus, I would never disrespect anyone else that follows such a rule. I have no right to do that as I can't prove one way or another. Religion is one big question in its self, which no one has the answer to. Thus, its better to not try to sit here and point out who is right, what is right, who is wrong and what is wrong. BECAUSE NO ONE KNOWS!!

Actually your wrong my friend, they do know its a part of my religious belief, not HEALTH reasons. Thus, they take even more care if I am invited over for dinner. Which I is very nice of them. They in fact eat a vegy meal that day without any problem. I don't ask them for a separate kitchen, I never even said that. Point was about respect. That if they can understand being American, then Hetal is Hindu...she forgot in a second all the rules she grew up with. Gandhi's didn't stop her from eating it. They stopped her from cooking it in THEIR kitchen, because they don't eat it...

Your friends in Texas also expect that you eat along side non-veg eating guests and have t for their food, you cannot ask them to cook your veg in different kitchen than non-veg food ..respect goes two ways, you cannot call non-veg or onions impure and not to eat out of kitchen in which non-veg food has been cooked. When vegetarian Indians move to the west they develop huge toleration for non-vegetarian .. the concept of impurity or separate kitchen even separate table, separate china practiced on full scale in India totally vanished they are very grateful to get veg food while many dished on the table are non-veg..

So they have separate kitchen, separate pots and pans to cook your vegetarian food and separate china, in which non-veg has not been cooked..I don't think so..
You are accommodating them by eating food cook along side non-veg dishes..many times using the same hands, they used to cook non-veg.

Hetal has changed when she got exposed to other cultures, she probably forgot the narrow mindedness she was brought up in..IShe is the best person to challenge the totally narrow minded thinking....it is good for Baa to realize that onion come from same ground potatoes are grown and many times farmers grow them side by side..this kind of nonsense has given rise to untouchability (which nobody in the west will understand or cater to)

I don't think core Hinduism is about impure kitchen and onions..and finding purity in false things...it is about pure mind and thoughts, most have forgotten this by focusing on just onions and discriminating against human beings. Washing hands and cleanliness is different than telling a person that they will pollute their kitchen if the come inside or touch anything.

Meat eating west is no less kind than veg Indians...in my opinion west is more open, accepting and tolerant of their own fellow citizens.
