I notice many families, who although claim to treat the daughter-in-law like a daughter, and to some extent even do... but there is always that little back-biting that the saas does behind the bahu's back, which differentiates DIL from daughter. It's true, sometimes they show preference for one bahu over the other if they don't have daughters. Two sets of rules for beti and bahu. How many families have we heard beti comes and squats at maike but the bahu wanting to visit maike is criminal in their minds. SDS portrays the double standards of a saas to a tee. The ones that claim they treat their bahus like betis are usually the ones who stick it to the bahus.

Thakurs are a classical example. They should realize now that it's not so pleasant when you yourself are on the receiving end.

After weeks of being unable to watch the show, I finally took time out to watch the latest episode and was appalled to see Komal being beat up by Adarsh. I guess no matter how civilized and educated you get, in a state of anger, you only rely on your basic instincts. Where is the difference in the uncouth Krishna who is the first to pull out a gun in anger and Adarsh who mercilessly beat up his wife? Is it true that you can't run away from your roots, no matter how much you try?

Other than that, this was very much reminiscent of when SS used to beat up Amma. Or KN with Kesar. The threats with the chappals, the multiple abortions. And everyone, except Pratigya, but including Krishna, would sit quietly and let the beatings proceed. Isn't wife-beating the norm in their family?

So why were they all (SS, GD, KN, Krishna... and even Komal)... WHY were they horrified when Komal was beaten up? Shouldn't they be considering it a healthy sign that Adarsh is becoming more of a Thakur everyday? If SS and KN can beat up their wives, why react when Komal is beaten up by her husband? A bit hypocritical, don't you think?

It's a natural behaviour, and it's a shame really. We criticize others but often make the same mistakes ourselves. What would you do? Imagine if you were SS, a regular wife beater, how would you react when your daughter appeared beaten up before you, like Komal? Should this be a lesson to Sajjan Singh to reflect on his mistakes? Or is what he is doing right?

Superb post, elle!
@ red: This comes as a surprise to me. Post-property track I thought thakurs hv mended themselves...but the present turn of the events suggests they r into the habit of taking one step forward & one step backward...they r still much the same... as there is no sign of thakurs breaking out of molds. Their reaction to Komal's beating is very irrational by their own barbaric standards.
And I'm not impressed by Krishna's valour in taking to arms at the slightest provocation. In fact, I find it odd when people glorify K's beastly instincts😕...& I can see that CVs themselves r committing this mistake (they start playing Krishna krishna BG music everytime he holds that 'katta' in his hands). To me, the only strengths of K's personality are ------ he is good at heart & he is committed to his love for P. Other than this, he is just a bullbrain like KN.
Another thing which always puzzles me is the greater popularity of thakurs' criminal acts than the civilized ways of Saxes. I know thakur idiosyncracies hv more entertainment value & the roles r being performed by great actors...hence it is obvious to praise the actors involved but it's not just this...in this forum itself I find people giving silly justifications for K's dubious dabangai. I am not defending Adarsh's act here. He is a coward who beats his wife in the first place & then runs for covers. I wonder why CVs r hell bent on convincing us that every educated person is a coward. I'd love to see an educated non-thakur giving these arrogant thakurs a taste of their own medicine.

So Beating Is Not The Only Reason.

Now You'll Reply That K Had Suspected His Wife,Had Thrown Her Out Of TN...But I Think Situation Is Completely Different.K Had Never Betrayed His Wife,He Had No Extra-marital Relations...But A Few Days Ago Adarsh Was Divorcing Komal For Another Girl.

This Explanation Is Only For K,Not For SS&KN.

No Ahnaf, I won't say all that. 😊 When I mentioned Krishna, it was just to say that when in anger, there is no difference between two men... they're all the same. Krishna is uneducated and brought up in an environment where violence is promoted, so we can understand when he pulls out a gun.
Adarsh is educated and has lived with the "prim and proper" Professor all his life. He's been taught to control his anger, to behave like a civil man, even at times of anger.

My point was just to highlight that all education goes to waste when a man loses his mind in anger, what's the use of education and instilling values when you can't control yourself when it is needed most?

Right Babitha, there's always a difference. It's really sad that a daughter-in-law never achieves the same status as a daughter, even though they give the best years of their lives serving and caring for their in-laws.

TBH, Saxes reaction too is different when it comes between daughters and DIL, Son n SIL but again my pov. Not to the extent Takurs but it is in them. Education has nothing to do with it as physical abuse has no barriers

Blood is always stronger than water and therefore each react accordingly and that is what they showed..

It's a very natural phenomena. We really can't help being this way.

I think there's a good lesson for everybody in this track, if only they'd highlight this issue in the show.

good post, Elle. very true! It is a lesson for SS.

But also i'd say the same for Adarsh and his family..they are hypocrites as well. I despise this character of Adarsh. who the hell is he to beat Komal in such a cruel manner. Thats just not justified no matter how many extra marital affairs Komal is having.

Saxsenas are educated illiterates. They think by getting a college degree, eating with spoons rather than hands, ranting about law all the time they've become civilized. That itself reflects a narrow thinking. And they are fake as well which makes them worse.

Saxes and Thakurs are same.

Krishna is not educated, but he is not a cheater. He knows he has temper issues, his thoughts are narrow minded, but at least he accepts his flaws, is willing to get rid of them.

Adarsh is an educated version of Shakti.

True, Saxenas are also hypocrites. Remember how they treated Krishna in the early days despite him being respectful ti them? But I now think that apart from Adarsh, they're all improving slowly.

Beating up your spouse is never justifiable. I simply don't understand what ppl think they will achieve with violence? Wouldn't your spouse just hate you more?

Komal has become the docile deer in the family who directs all her anger and fires at Tam.

Adarsh may have been ready to sacrifice his jaanu to stay married to Komal but the residual feelings for his lady love overseas still linger and the pent up emotions of the past (giving up on baahar laundiya Roli) deep down he resents Komal for his life ...though he thought he was making a sacrifice for Prats's sake and pitched the offer to K.

It also shows the duplicity of some men who see no wrong when they stray for comfort outside marriage and do it secretively. Yet when their woman so much as smiles in the direction of another man they get possessive and are ready to scoop their eyes out or give them a good trashing. Double standards? Of course! Man's fragile ego just can't take it.😕

As I mentioned before it's pretty ironic that KN would question Adarsh's beating while Kesar stands by his side...this from the one who killed four babies and buried his wife alive. K and SS lose their heads when their explosive anger erupts and grab a gun/pistol to settle scores. When it comes to familiy SS prefers his worn-out sandals to have a hefty emotional and physical impact on the ones they trash.😕

Looks like the Takurs have a lifetime membership with NRA (National Rifle Association). Guns in the house with children is dangerous. Imagine if a loaded gun ended in the hands of Chinkiya or Samar when they were playing without understanding the repurcussions of such weapons.

Prats is smart that way, she uses her words to act like bullets with no harm done but sure wears the listener down..🤣

@bold: 😆 No wonder she chose to be a lawyer, that's one of the only professions where you can give endless speechs about right vs. wrong.

I'd like to see a track about what you just mentioned. That the kids stumble upon an unattendend gun and are about to do something dangerous when they are caught and saved. Maybe that will open Sajjan's eyes and he will rid the house of weapons once and for all.

About double standards, it's not just men's fragile ego which can't handle it. Society in general frowns more upon cheating/flirtatious women than they frown upon cheating/flirtatious men. Women themselves are also responsible for creating a gender divide in the community.
