Chapter 9
As She hobbled in the direction of the corridor towards the Director's office she crossed the row of dressing rooms. Most people had left other than some of the technicians still packing up.
As she drew nearer, one of the doors was slightly ajar and She saw a ray of light on the floor.
Curious, She popped her head round to find the girl He had coffee with the other evening sitting there silently crying.
"Hey!! You OK?"
Quickly hiding the evidence, the girl rapidly stood up
"Yeah, yeah, you know...this bloody make up really stings my eyes sometimes, that's all. Just packing to leave...erm how bout you? What you still doing here?"
"I just wanted to talk to the Director...see if I can get a couple days off,"
"He's in meetings with some of the writers right now, that's what I understood..you'll be hard pressed to see him right now"
"Oh, " she said obviously disappointed "that's that then I suppose, oh well never mind...erm, listen, are you sure you're OK, I mean you haven't looked right last day or so, anything I can help with?"
You so should not be doing this! her inner voice warned but She carried on regardless
"Don't feel you're alone...you can feel free to talk to me if you want to"
For the next twenty five minutes or so, the girl deigned to tell Her the story of herself and Him, enough to turn Her from mere nosey parker to a steely eyed convert.
"I just feel so betrayed..." the girl sobbed
"Listen" She said gently "Be strong. The hurt you feel now will pass - just concentrate on the job. You said yourself its all going well right? so just-"
"What I said - just now - you will keep it to yourself right?" the girl stammered
"Of course, you can count on it," she said with a perfectly straight face.
0000OOO0000
She forgot her little white lie and so was caught out when he appeared out of the dark
"So much for you being OK to walk...I said I'd help" as he walked over to her. He had changed and clearly freshened up whereas She was still in the same clothes from her shoot.
"Look I really am not up for anything right now, so if you don't mind, I'm heading home."
" I do mind,"He said taking Her hand to face him " I dont take no for an answer that easily"
"Oh really? Well let me tell you - arghh!!!"
"This is really unfair!" She protested "You cant just sweep me up and do what you like!"
" I know I shouldn't, but hey!!! Trust me - you'll be glad you did," and placed her gently on the floor as he opened the door.
"Look I really mean, it, I'm not-"
"In the mood? S'OK - I'll change your mood real soon, I promise. Now do I pick you up and lie you down in the back or are you gonna behave and sit in the front?" His eyes were challenging Her, but She didn't have the strength or energy to fight Him.
She sat down in the front passenger seat quietly and they drove off
They remained quiet for most of the journey, each lost in their own thoughts
She was thinking how little She actually knew him and that She had trusted him not knowing he could be such a liar
He on the other hand was praying that He could muster the courage and tell her how He really felt about Her.
