I am so happy to hear both of you have given your time to these special people in any which way you can. Thank you. I personally know what life is like for families raising children with ASD, my husband and I live it everyday. With intervention, therapy, patience, love and care they can as adults live independently leading productive lives. 😃

Lots of PATIENCE and love, once parents realize this they are on the right track 😉

I was always a patient person but my patience reached new levels after my Baba was diagnosed. I am in awe of how we handle those early years. Families raising children with autism find that their social circles gets smaller just when they need a lot of support from family and friends. But they learn to live with that too.😃

I know on somedays you can see the parent/parents behavioural, i get worry for that child. Do you know some of these parents put these kids in group homes😲 i get angry but when i think about it, it is for the best. I as an adult can handle noise, I have sensitive skin, i smell coffee and i flip out... i put myself into these children shoes and do understand what life must be for them, they themself can understand what is happening to them

I flip out at the smell of coffee too. If people want to know hear first hand account of autism "THINKING IN PICTURES" by Temple Grandin is a wonderful book to read. She holds a Ph.D and teaches at Colorado State University. She explains as a little toddler how adults speaking in normal voices used to sound like cymbals clashing near her ear at that age. But as the sensory system develops with therapy and understand children get a better understanding of what bothers them and if possible they avoid or find ways to cope with it.

At New Trier High School in suburban Winnetka, developmentally disabled students sing alongside classmates without those disabilities, and as the non-disabled children learn skills like signing and braile, they also learn to respect and enjoy the company of others not as fortunate as them.

MMG!🤗😃

Check your PM! We share a bond as parents raising children with autism. I often remind people that this new generation of children has to learn to live with tolerance of those who are different from them for they are going to see more people with autism amongst them functioning at different levels as they grow up. The statistics are mind boggling today than it was when my Baba was diagnosed 15 years ago.

Mera,
Thanks for opening this post.
Many of us have a lot in common. I was married into a family where people have various degrees of Autism spectrum disorder. My husband shows many signs of Aspergers. But the irony is they do not know that they have this disorder, and in the initial years of marriage I too could not understand his behavior. It was a tough time.
Only after his brother's son who is 5 year old now is diagnosed with autism, my husband can now understand and agree that his behavior is not normal. After understanding the disorder, he is showing lot of improvement, and showing interest to change his behavior. 14 years into the marriage, I too have adjusted a lot, my patience levels have risen, can understand what to expect and what not to expect. We are leading a happy life.

Meera diiii...... 🤗

Thanks for this wonderful post.. It is necessary that individuals make an effort to see things from these children's perspectives.. before passing judgments.. I have worked with autistic children and they have truly helped me to be far more patient and loving towards others !! They require our love... comfort/care because they are unaware of what is taking place.. but with the support of their loved ones they can live a happy life !!
