Thank you for your posts. I have been receiving some interesting PMs since I posted - critisizing Shakti for the wife beating (which for the record I do not condone), use of prostitutes, Arushi incident etc.
On his frequenting of prostitutes - I hate to say this (since I am already so popular) but I am sympathetic.
Both SS and Krishna have strong, spirited wives much closer to the kind of partners their personalities require. Shakti has Kesar, whom I am sure is lovely, but strikes me as a meek and passive partner and lover - certainly not the kind of engaged, generous and yes even adventerous sexual partner I think that a Thakur needs (even Komol!) - and certainly not someone who could arouse and fulfil the passions of a man like Shakti.
With respect to the Arushi incident - I think that his fantasies, daydreams and even his "courting" of her gave us some insight into his true personality. He did not have rape fantasies - he had fantasies of a partner that responded to and was awakened and thrilled by his touch. We saw moments of him being generous and kind and even tender to her - he had a crush (tragically, maybe even the first one of his life). Remember even Krishna was a bit of a stalker and goon before Prats.
This second marriage was his first chance at real love and companionship. The way he carried her picture around and even fought with his own brother for this potential love of his- just reinforces this.
I say give Kesar her divorce (with wealth and security to go with it) and let Shakti have a honeeymoon for once

a very insightful post.. good analysis... actually there are many men like shakti.. ( a little toned down on the beating ad abortion part ) who get married to partners they look up to only as mother of their children but not has a better half.. i also liked kools suggestion on how to fix shakti and kesar's track but sadly they want prats to solve every god damm problem in the world...

how does she get around the house working with all that open hair and heels is beyond me!

Interesting idea -there does seem to be something very different about Amma's relationship with Shakti - she is so much more demanding and so much less protective of him.

I do think that they have similar personalities though - both hate with no limits and I have no doubt that both would stop at nothing to protect those they love. They seem to be driven purely on instinct. Unlike SS who is a lot more calculating
I use to think that Krishna was a kinder, gentler version of SS , with innate wisdom. Unfortunately he appears to be operating on a completely different kind of instinct now

Thanks,
I liked Kools suggestion too, I would love to see some genuine romance between Shakti and Kesar - and think it might have emerged if the baby had been born.
Its too bad they can't get Prats a proper super hero costume to match her super hero powers
- able to reform a thug with a peck on the cheek
-able to secure social justice by widening her eyes and pursing her lips
- able to render judge and jury irrelevant through a courtroom confession that gives the accused a motive, speaks to none of the facts in question and still manages to get an acquital
- able to rush a battered woman to the hospital, help her file a police complaint and then.... bring her back home
Its Super Prats to the...well not exactly rescue.....
