Hope, Kools, Dream et al
Thank you for your posts. I have been receiving some interesting PMs since I posted - critisizing Shakti for the wife beating (which for the record I do not condone), use of prostitutes, Arushi incident etc.
On his frequenting of prostitutes - I hate to say this (since I am already so popular) but I am sympathetic.
Both SS and Krishna have strong, spirited wives much closer to the kind of partners their personalities require. Shakti has Kesar, whom I am sure is lovely, but strikes me as a meek and passive partner and lover - certainly not the kind of engaged, generous and yes even adventerous sexual partner I think that a Thakur needs (even Komol!) - and certainly not someone who could arouse and fulfil the passions of a man like Shakti.
With respect to the Arushi incident - I think that his fantasies, daydreams and even his "courting" of her gave us some insight into his true personality. He did not have rape fantasies - he had fantasies of a partner that responded to and was awakened and thrilled by his touch. We saw moments of him being generous and kind and even tender to her - he had a crush (tragically, maybe even the first one of his life). Remember even Krishna was a bit of a stalker and goon before Prats.
This second marriage was his first chance at real love and companionship. The way he carried her picture around and even fought with his own brother for this potential love of his- just reinforces this.
I say give Kesar her divorce (with wealth and security to go with it) and let Shakti have a honeeymoon for once
