pratigya saxena,a beautiful grl of 21... the eldest daughter of professor shyam saxena has an enchanting voice.... all the neighbours used to start their day with her music and end it by praising her subtleness and gentleness.... she was a beloved of evryone....
it was the day of her singing competition... she was pretty tensed... wen she came down after doing her riwaz,she saw that evryone was awake... it was a working day.. her father had to go to the college and her brother to the office...so her mother was quite busy in making their tiffins and lunch... her younger sister aarushi came running to her....as she entered the drawing room.....
aarushi------didi...? aaj aapka competition hain na? aapke college mein?
pratigya------haan aarushi....bht darr lag raha hain hume.....
aarushi-----are didi darnewali koi baat nhi hain...hum jante hain ye frst prizeaapko hi milegi... aapki tarah itni khubsurat awaz pure allahabad mein kisike paas bhi nhi hain......
pratigya(going red in the face)------dhat...!! she smiled shyly......
dadi called out to her-------pratigya beta? idhar aao to zara....
pratigya walked over to her dadi and touched her feet-----dadi ashirvaad dijiye ki aaj hum thk se gaa paye competition mein.... aaj ka ye competition hamare liye bht aimiyat rakhti hain.....
dadi put her hand on pratigya's head and blessed her.... then she said-----beta...humne tumhare liye manat mangi hain...agr aaj tum competition mein jeet gayi to hum sab sangam jake pooja karwayenge.....
pratigya----thk hain dadi...hum zaroor chalenge...par pehle hume jitne to dijiye.....?
shyam ji came out of his room,all ready to go to the college.. he called out-----naina ji hamara tiffin?
naina ji-----lati hun...ek min....
pratigya ran to her father and stooped down to take his blessings too.....
shyam ji-----beta tum aaj pure dil se gana...tum ye mat sochna ki tum cmpetition mein gaa rahi ho....bas apni ankhen band karke apna dil lagake gana.... thk hain?
pratigya----jee papa....
shyam ji----chalo thk hain aab hum chalte hain....hume der ho rahi hain.....tum to adarsh ke saath jaogi...kyun?
pratigya----haan papa.....aap jaiye....
naina ji came out of the kitchen and handed the tiffin to him.... he was abt to leave with it,wen he stopped at the doorway,his face becoming bright at once------are aap? ayiye ayiye....pratigya beta...tumhare guruji aye hain....
pratigya's singing teacher,pandit prakash chand entered the room... pratigya was glad to see him... he was the only one whu cud wipe all her fears away in less than a second......
naina ji(all in smiles)-----aap baithiye na guruji....hum aapke liye nashta lekar ate hain...
prakash chand----nhi nhi....aap rehne dijiye....hum yahan sirf apni beti se milne aye hain....kyunki hume pata hain....ki woh bht darr gayi hogi......
tears came into pratigya's eyes..... his wrds touched her heart... he had always treated her like his own daughter rather than a student...and he cud always sense wat was going on in her mind.....she considered herself lucky to have a teacher like him......
prakash chand-------kyun pratigya beta darr lag raha hain?
pratigya-----thoda bht.....
prakash chand------thk hain...aab hum tumhe jo batane jaa rahe hain use sunkar ye darr bhi tumse duuurr bhag jayega.....
pratigya looked up at him,cnfused...
prakash chand--------beta tumhe shayad ye sunkar khushi hogi ki hum tumhare saath is competition mein jaa rahe hain...tumhara hausla badane....
pratigya's face illuminated at once.-------sach guruji?
prakash chand------haan....
naina ji-----ye to bht acchi baat hain guruji.....aapka bht bht shukriya....aab hamare beti ko koi darr nhi lagega.....
pratigya hugged naina ji in delight...... and then left with her teacher.....
naina ji prayed to god for her to win the competition.......

naina ji,aarushi,adarsh and dadi were waiting anxiously and eagerly for pratigya to return with shyam ji....naina ji ha tried to call shyam ji a number of times...bt it said non-reachable...they were eager to know the resualts of the competition.....
aarushi asked her mother------mummy ye did aur papa kab ayenge....tension se hamari jaan jaa rahi hain....mummy didi frst hi ayi hogi na? didi ki elawa aur kaun frst ho sakta hain?
naina ji------aab hum kaise bataye aarushi.....un logo ko pehle aane to do....
adarsh------mummy hum jake dekhe ki wolog abhi tak kyun nhi aa rahe hain?
naina ji thot for a while and then agreed... adarsh went out bt almost instantly came in,all in smiles-------mummy papa aur pratigya aa gaye hain....
kya?-------naina ji and aarushi ran outside.....
they saw pratigya getting down frm the rickshaw and with as bright smile ran over to her mother and sister....
she threw her arms around her mother and said--------mummy....!!!! hum jeet gaye...hum cmpetition jeet gaye....
naina ji and aarushi were delighted.... they took her inside followed by shyam ji.....
pratigya went over to dadi and hugged her...... she felt really happy.....she felt as if she was floating above the clouds......
aarushi made her sit down and said-------hum jante the....hum jante the didi...ki aapki tarah itni sundar awaz pure allahabad mein kisike paas bhi nhi hain..... dikhaye na kya diya hain unlogone aap ko?
pratigya handed her the trophee------ye lo....
aarushi-----woooww...didi kitna bara trophee.....
her whole family was vry happy and started celebrating her victory.............wen dadi suddenly said------shyamu....kal ka din bht shubh hain...hum sab chalte hain sangam,pooja ke liye......humne mannat mangi thi ki agr pratigya ye competition jeet jati hain to hum ganga maiya ki pooja karenge.....
shyam ji luked worried------par ma kal kaise ho sakta hain...hamara to college hain na...aur adarsh ko bhi office jana hoga.....
dadi luked disappointed----haan haan is ghar mein aab hamari baat koi kyun manega...thk hain mat chalo hamare saath.....
pratigya cudnt see her beloved dadi upset... she sat beside her and put her arms around her neck in a loving manner-------dadi.....aap chinta mat kijiye...papa ko college jane dijiye na....hum sab chalenge aapke saath sangam par.....
adarsh------haan dadi aur hum bhi kal ka din chutti le lenge.....
aarushi-------yaayyy...kitna maza ayega waha hum bht sare chudiyan kharidenge.....
dadi smilied and said to naina ji-------bahu...tum pooja ki tayari karo.....
naina ji----thk hain ma ji.....
shyam ji------aur hum rickshaw ka bandobast kar denge......taki aap logo ko ane jane mein to dikkat na ho.....

sangam was crowded as usual....with thousands of devotees.... as it was the festival season,a small fair was held....wich sold evrythng...starting frm bangles to puja equipments and pictures of gods and goddesses....
as soon as the rickshaw stopped,aarushi jumped down and ran towards a bangle shop,excited... she was crazy abt colourful glass bangles...and wherevr she went,she used to buy some bunches of them.....
naina ji called out to her------aarushi....zyaada dur mat jana......bhid mein kho jaogi.....
aarushi shouted out to her-------kya mummy...aap hume baccha samajhti ho kya?
naina ji smiled at her daughter's innocence..... adarsh ran up to her and teased her------bacche ko baccha nhi samjhenge to kya samjhenge?bolo?
aarushi slapped him playfully in mock anger on his back.....
adarsh pulled her hair.....
they were indulging in a small fight wen pratigya came in between them....
pratigya-----kya bhaiya...aarushi tumlog yahan ye sab mat karo...ye ghar nhi hain....
aarushi-----didi aap bhaiya ko bol dijiye ki woh mera bal na khiche.....
adarsh-----are hamari bholi bhali behna....jaise ki tumne kuch kiya hi nhi?
pratigya------are bas karo tum dono...bhaiya aap mummy aur dadi ke paas jakar unlogo ko help kijiye....hum yahan aarushi ke saath rukte hain....
adarsh-------thk hain......thak hain.....ja rahe hain.....
as he was leaving....aarushi put out her tongue at him.....
pratigya smiled at her childishness------aarushi bas bhi karo....aur dekho tum chudiyan dekh rahi thi na?
aarushi------oh haan...di....aap bhi dekhiye na?
pratigya-----nhi tum dekho......hume nhi kharidna....
"beti...garib par kuch raham karo...beti......do din se bhukha hun....."
pratigya turned around... it was an old beggar,clad in rugs.... looking vry weak... she felt bad for him.....and took out her purse....
"ye lijiye baba"-------she handed him a ten rupee note.....
the beggar blessed her with his trembling hand--------bhagwan tumhe har khushi de beti.....
he walked away slowly.....pratigya sighed and turned back to aarushi...bt to her utmost shock,SHE WAS NT THERE........
pratigya looked around,panic growing inside her...aarushi was nowhere no be seen... she called out her name as she searched for her-------AARUSHI? aarushi!!!!
she walked away quite a distance frm her family while searching for aarushi and soon she herself got lost.......
wen she realised it,she had come quite far off..... sweat appeared on her forehead..... as she ran here and there to find her family...bt neither did she get any track of them nor aarushi..... she became cold in fear......
suddenly,freezing her blood more.....a strange sound was heard...... wich created a huge chaos in the whole place.... before she cud guess wat was happening she heard that sound agen....this time,louder and clearer......and within a spark of a second,she understood wat they were.....THEY WERE THE SOUNDS OF PISTOL SHOTS.......
she became so panicked that she lost her power to move...... she just stood there like a statue,amidst all the people shouting and running for their lives.....her mind went black and the world turned hazzy in frnt of her eyes..... she realised that she was going to lost her consciousness though she didnt want to...... she clutched her forehead and tried to keep herself steady wen all of a sudden.... someone grabbed her hand and pulled her with him.....pratigya,totally powerless and confused,let herself carried away.....
she tried to look in frnt,to make out the face of the person whu was dragging her away bt cudnt as he had his face turned away frm her... all she cud see was that he was a tall,lean guy,strong,with a somewhat burnt complexion.... his clothes were covered in dust.....and sand.....and he pushed his way through the crowd,dragging her along with him......
she didnt know for how long they kept on walking like that bt as they approached a more peaceful place....where the chaos was somewhat less,he let go of her hand and within few moments,disappeared into the crowd.....
pratigya wiped the dust of her face and looked around her.... she was surprised to see that she had returned to the same place frm where she had got lost,searching for aarushi.....
the atmosphere had calmed down considerably and suddenly pratigya noticed her brother,adarsh running around,probably searching for her.... she shouted with all her strength------adarsh bhaiya!!!!! hum yahan hain.......BHAIYA!!!!!!
he stopped and turned.... pratigya was delighted to see that he noticed her.....
adarsh ran over to her....--------pratigya? tum kahan chali gayi thi? hum kitne pareshan ho gaye the.....?
soon naina ji,dadi and aarushi came over to her too... naina ji hugged her daughter tightly...she was scared out of her wits wen she got lost......
pratigya asked aarushi-----tum hume bina bataye kyun waha se chalki gayi thi....?
aarushi held down head,feeling guilty....
naina ji------aab jane do beta....shukar hain ganga maiya ke kripa hain hume tum sahi salamat mil gayi...warna pata nhi kya ho jata.....
pratigya-----par mummy wo awazein...wo to banduk ki awazein thi na?
adarsh----haan pratigya...pata nhi kaun the wolog.....gunde...kahike....
dadi------he bhagwan....aab yaha bhi ye sab shuru ho gaya hain......? kahi bhi shanti se nhi reh sakte.....
as they walked away frm the place,to cntinue with the puja....pratigya wondered------wo kaun tha jisne hume bachaya? hum to thk se uska chehra bhi nhi dekh paye....agr aaj usne hamari jaan na bachaya hota...toh..... she shuddered at the thot of wat wud have happened to her.....
