JALAL-HAKIM
What was there NOT to love in the scene between Jalal and Hakim. Again, though I found the Shehenshah dressing his commander a bit filmy, I overlooked it bearing in mind that it was something an older brother was doing to his younger one - all this, while the beautiful sun rays fell on them. The cinematography here was well done. 😊
'I realize that I am being sent in this war to get rid of my sentiments ...from both my mind and heart...to forget my love' Hakim mentions 'But, why are YOU starting this war now? Why are you so restless? Whose love are YOU trying to forget?' he prods on 'I haven't seen you in years...but, I know this much...whenever you used to set out on wars before, you used to possess a hint of arrogance in your eyes, not restlessness...you used to have thirst to attain victory, not anger! Something's wrong...'
Obviously, Jalal is miffed by the statements that Hakim was making - he was being presented with facts that he had no proper means to counter!
'Whatever the war, however big the victory - it's not going to abate the anguish and torment that the heart has...this 'anguish' can only be placated when you attain victory over the one you truly love...' he pauses 'Tell me who DO you love?'
'I love NO ONE...' Jalal screams 'Only HE loves..only HE is restless who possesses a heart...and I have NO heart...'
Dismissing his brother - who is totally unconvinced by this 'I have NO heart line' just like the rest of us - Jalal storms off with the Urdu version of 'Vijayi Bhava!'
JA-JO
Talking to himself and wondering why someone who claimed to be heartless was undergoing such restlessness and Jealousy, Jalal stops outside Jodha's chamber. While she was busy doing her Aarthi and unaware that she was being watched by him, he looks at her for a second. Obviously, that scene was meant to be an answer to all of his 'Why' questions - answers that he refused to accept. So, the pained man then realizes that there was no point in spending any further time outside her Hojra and brushes off the daasi's question too.😊
I read many assuming that he decided to spend the night with Ruqaiyya only because he was angered with this 'heartless' debate or riled with Jodha! To me however, the scene didn't look like a tit-for-tat. It looked like something he said in passing while his face still showed the torment he felt at his questions remaining unanswered. His 'Inform Ruqaiyya I'll be with her' didn't have any emotion invested in it beyond that - to me, at least! 🤔
MA
I didn't think I would devote a line to this lady today - but, she always comes up with brilliant lines -
'You need to learn one thing from Jalal' she tells his furious son 'When he decides to stand by someone, he'll never give up on that person till the very end..he's chosen Mirza because he is a wounded lion and wounded lions are very ferocious...victory will be ours!'
ATGAH-JALAL
I liked this scene - because it showed the workings behind how the HM-MA-AK-Atgah equations are going to change in future. I am intrigued to find out about the kussar pussar that went on at the last half of this scene though!🤔
KAA KAROON MEIN AMAAJI
The reason why I devoted this chapter to this good-for-nothing poem was because it seems to be the unannounced Sultanate Anthem - what with everyone in and around the palace having learnt it by-heart?
I think even I've by hearted half of it by now - having heard it ceaselessly for the past 3 weeks!😆
JODHA
Solves the paigaam and half marks to her for that (the other half goes to Rahim of course!)
However, having done that successfully - she decides to set aside all of her thinking caps and traipses right up to the villain to confront her - AND tell her that she'd inform the Shehenshah of it too. (An Ayoo Raama moment for me - typical Indian drama heroine actions this!)
Worse, she's been getting so distracted during the entire 'I'll tell Shehenshah' bit last week with either 'He's really angry now' or 'He doesn't have the time now' that the entire urgency of the situation is lost.
All she had to do was take Benazir's letter, storm into his room and and show him the puzzle. That would have shut him up instantly - at least some things would have fallen into place then! Never expect much logic from TV-Land eh?
One significant fact she stated today was 'Its tragic how all of Shehenshah's near and dear ones are out to betray him!'😊
BENAZIR
Is it me or are Benazir's clothes shrinking? Maybe with the same set being over-laundered, it is bound to happen - however (as my friend rightfully said) this wardrobe malfunction is so-not-ideal for all that heavy panting and breathing she's been doing for the past 3-4 episodes! If things progress in this fashion, JA is soon going to end up having a watershed rating and be termed unfit for 8 pm telecast!😆
Anyhow, Benazir herself at this point actually seems quite incapacitated to stand up by herslef - forget dancing/hissing and kissing the Shehnshah. What happened dear? Snake stock in Agra running at an all time low?
ABUL MAALI
Dude, you desperately need a new wig...What you are sporting looks like an upturned version of strung up dyed coconut fibres!😕
WAR
What used to be 'Now you saw it...now you didn't' war sequences has been totally done with lately. Now, its only soldiers dressing up in fancy suits and boots, stepping out of palace gates, closing the Agra fort behind them and then ta-dah - as if by magic they re-enter with the prisoner in chains.
This is magic, not war!
JALAL-ABUL MAALI
Again, I liked bits from this scene - it started of as a 'thunderous' one with Jalal's sarcastic confrontation et al.
However, in the DEK when Jalal makes tall claims, I can't help but laugh at the young man
'I have eyes all around! Now tell me, who's the spy you've implanted here?'
If you had 4, 6 or 8 pairs of eyes Jalal why don't you still know who the spy is - why are you asking HIM? Where are your OWN spies who are supposed to be finding this out. Worse, Jodha was right there - sitting in the DEK - knowing exactly what the warring relations were talking about! Shareef in his dingy cell knows the spy - but, the Shehenshah doesn't!
That entire scene lost its appeal because of many such discrepancies! If not, the combative lines between the two men could have been noteworthy!
JALAL-JODHA
Jodha trying to tell the truth to Jalal and Jalal brushing it off - again, typical Indian drama stuff this! I was glad Jodha finally decided NOT to relent to his temper and begin blurting out what she wanted to say - however, Jalal had to finish it off with his characteristic lines '19 other women have come with Abul Maali...I'm keeping my eye on all of them...besides, I've spent more time with her than you have and know her better'
Argh! 😕
MY TAKE -
What happened to the Jodha Begum who shushed up Ruqaiyya in her chamber last week? Why did she decide to blurt everything out to Benazir today - why is she not taking charge of the situation better?
What happened to the Shehenshah who realized in an instant that Jodha was innocent? Why is he now REFUSING to look into the Benazir matter stubbornly? Brains back in hibernation?
Again, today the two leads turned out to be different personalities!
I've realized that the one person the lead's progression is dependant on is Rahim - and as he is a child, he comes and goes as he wills and does things at his own sweet speed. So, till he decides to decode MA's letter next, no hope for the leads!😆
