ATGAH-JALAL
I liked this scene - because it showed the workings behind how the HM-MA-AK-Atgah equations are going to change in future. I am intrigued to find out about the kussar pussar that went on at the last half of this scene though! That was about the ongoing "keep Abul Mali under strict observation" plan o Jalal's , about which we were told only later, at the Diwan-e-Khas scene. When Jalal says while leaving that it is time, he means for pulling Abul Mali out of his hideyhole and bringing him to Agra fort as a prisoner.
KAA KAROON MEIN AMAAJI
The reason why I devoted this chapter to this good-for-nothing poem was because it seems to be the unannounced Sultanate Anthem - what with everyone in and around the palace having learnt it by-heart?
I think even I've by hearted half of it by now - having heard it ceaselessly for the past 3 weeks!😉
JODHA
Solves the paigaam and half marks to her for that (the other half goes to Rahim of course!)Both Jodha and Mirza are like tubelights with a defective choke. One takes till today to decipher the code and the other has still not done it!
However, having done that successfully - she decides to set aside all of her thinking caps and traipses right up to the villain to confront her - AND tell her that she'd inform the Shehenshah of it too. (An Ayoo Raama moment for me - typical Indian drama heroine actions this!) Yes, Jodha's confronting the KT and showing her hand prematurely was both very ill-advised and counter-productive. But she is always "like that only" - remember the time when she unwisely reveals to Sharifuddin that she had masqueraded as a daasi at Amer and learnt of his skulduggery in the Ratanpur fort affair; which led to the false pregnancy track. She never learns.
Worse, she's been getting so distracted during the entire 'I'll tell Shehenshah' bit last week with either 'He's really angry now' or 'He doesn't have the time now' that the entire urgency of the situation is lost. All she had to do was take Benazir's letter, storm into his room and and show him the puzzle. That would have shut him up instantly - at least some things would have fallen into place then! Never expect much logic from TV-Land eh? She does not have Benazir's letter, but she could very well write it out from memory. As for cracking the code, my fond hope is that Jalal has done it already before sending it on to Kabul; his aural memory is amazing.
One significant fact she stated today was 'Its tragic how all of Shehenshah's near and dear ones are out to betray him!'She conveniently forgot about her Sujamal Bhaisa, of course, whose treachery was no less.
BENAZIR
Is it me or are Benazir's clothes shrinking? Maybe with the same set being over-laundered, it is bound to happen - however (as my friend rightfully said) this wardrobe malfunction is so-not-ideal for all that heavy panting and breathing she's been doing for the past 3-4 episodes! If things progress in this fashion, JA is soon going to end up having a watershed rating and be termed unfit for 8 pm telecast!😉
Anyhow, Benazir herself at this point actually seems quite incapacitated to stand up by herslef - forget dancing/hissing and kissing the Shehnshah. What happened dear? Snake stock in Agra running at an all time low?
It does not look as thought the KT is in real form for poisoning Jalal. Why, Lashy, have you forgotten Zakira's timorous report of the depletion of the snake stock?
This leaves open the possibility that even if she bites him, the poison might act far more slowly than the norm, giving some time for Jalal's rescue team, very likely headed by Jodha. I think we will have that climax only on Friday.
ABUL MAALI
Dude, you desperately need a new wig...What you are sporting looks like an upturned version of strung up dyed coconut fibres!😉 Delightful crack!
WAR
What used to be 'Now you saw it...now you didn't' war sequences has been totally done with lately. Now, its only soldiers dressing up in fancy suits and boots, stepping out of palace gates, closing the Agra fort behind them and then ta-dah - as if by magic they re-enter with the prisoner in chains.
This is magic, not war! No, no, that was not meant to be a war, my dear, but only the end of the "trail Abul Mali in Agra" campaign. You are getting confoosed, and no wonder. With any luck, you might have a 2 minute war for Mirza and Mansingh to win the Mughal equivalents of the Mahavir Chakra. Not the Param Vir Chakra, as you mostly get it only posthumously.
JALAL-ABUL MAALI
Again, I liked bits from this scene - it started of as a 'thunderous' one with Jalal's sarcastic confrontation et al.
However, in the DEK when Jalal makes tall claims, I can't help but laugh at the young man
'I have eyes all around! Now tell me, who's the spy you've implanted here?'
If you had 4, 6 or 8 pairs of eyes Jalal why don't you still know who the spy is - why are you asking HIM? Where are your OWN spies who are supposed to be finding this out.
Worse, Jodha was right there - sitting in the DEK - knowing exactly what the warring relations were talking about! Shareef in his dingy cell knows the spy - but, the Shehenshah doesn't!
His asking Abul Mali about the jasoos was rhetorical. He could hardly have expected to get an honest reply! He has been having a close watch kept on Abul Mali all this while, which is why they are able to reel him in at once as soon as Jalal gives the go ahead to Atgah Khan.
Question: Does that mean that Jalal's spies also spotted the touching Benazir-Abul Mali embrace in the middle of the Agra Bazaar? If they had done so, Jalal would be on to the KT (khaas tohfa) already and by himself.
That entire scene lost its appeal because of many such discrepancies! If not, the combative lines between the two men could have been noteworthy!
Jalal seems to crawling back to his old self: witness the terrifying mirthless smile of old with which he tells Abul Mali that he has had his eye on him ever since Abul Mali entered Agra.
JALAL-JODHA
Jodha trying to tell the truth to Jalal and Jalal brushing it off - again, typical Indian drama stuff this! I was glad Jodha finally decided NOT to relent to his temper and begin blurting out what she wanted to say - however, Jalal had to finish it off with his characteristic lines '19 other women have come with Abul Maali...I'm keeping my eye on all of them...besides, I've spent more time with her than you have and know her better'
Argh!
I hope he has figured out Benazir, just as he had Abul Mali spotted as soon as he entered Agra. I want him to get out of that trap on his own. Jodha can come running in and try to take the bite, perhaps, and thus prove her bonafides as a devoted patni, but he should be smart enough to take care of himself. Let us see.
My bet is that it will end up like a mythological film, with Jodha deafening the helpless Kanha here, and Jalal waking up to the kind of danger he faces from the KT there, of course at the very last moment!
We are all forgetting one thing here. Even if Jalal believes that Benazir is out to get him, he will not realise till the very last HOW she plans to do that.
Why, even after watching Benazir writhe all over the screen today like an item dancer, and after having listened to Mirza's account of how a zahreeli dosiza gets restless and irritable when deprived of her daily fix of snake venom, Jodha has not yet connected the dots. How can Jalal, who has not had the benefit to Mirza's esoteric knowhow, and has not seen his KT today, even guess that she is a vishkanya?
So, even if he is expecting her to attack him when she gets to be up close and personal with him, he will be looking out for a stab with a khanjar, not a deadly snakebite. Now he is a strong man, and he will never think that in any such eventuality, he will not be able to overpower her physically. So the actual move will catch him unprepared, and he will have to react very quickly.
Question: Why would Benazir want to go ahead with her murderous plans now, when Abul Mali will not be let out of prison by the successor to Jalal, who would hardly want another contender for power, but would very likely be executed pronto, thus nixing her imperial ambitions (which are crazy in any case) ?
MY TAKE -
What happened to the Jodha Begum who shushed up Ruqaiyya in her chamber last week? Why did she decide to blurt everything out to Benazir today - why is she not taking charge of the situation better? The first was a fluke, the latter her SOP.
What happened to the Shehenshah who realized in an instant that Jodha was innocent? Why is he now REFUSING to look into the Benazir matter stubbornly? Brains back in hibernation? It is possible that he knows it already, with the reservation I have noted above, regarding her likely mode of attack. If so, the last thing he would do would be to confabulate with Jodha at the entrance to the Diwan-e-Khas. Why does she not try and meet him in his rooms? He does not bar her entry the last I saw.
Again, today the two leads turned out to be different personalities!
I've realized that the one person the lead's progression is dependant on is Rahim - and as he is a child, he comes and goes as he wills and does things at his own sweet speed. So, till he decides to decode MA's letter next, no hope for the leads! Do you really believe that letter is ever going to be read? That Mahaam would leave such incriminating evidence lying around ?Jalal of course believes that he has torn it up himself,
