Chapter - 1
31 Dec 2013, Manali , India, 11:30 pm, It was cold and unusually dark night. The city experienced its coldest night in four years today with mercury settling at minus 2.1 degrees Celsius, five notches below normal.There was not a single person when I came out of my office building. The wind was howling through the side streets and slapping me as I passed each street. The city was eerily quiet - others were smart enough to stay home, beside their fires, where I now longed to be. , Lights are strung up in the streets; jolly music plays endlessly in shops and on the radio and everyone feels obligated to be cheerful, although not necessarily happy.
I picked up my pace as I approached the car parking area. Soon I would forget the cold or rather enjoy it after reaching my rest house. God am really tired today, as I was busy whole day. It's because of the urgent meeting I have attended, arrived here in evening and was working like a freak even after the meeting.
I took out my car keys, unlocked the door and suddenly my mobile rang. I saw the name flashing Maa I smiled; it's the 6th time Maa is calling me in last 6 hours. I pick up the call and Maa said "Yash beta waha sardi kaisi hai? Jaldi Ghar chale jana", (how is the cold there?return to the rest house soon )and before she could say anything I told her that I am on my way back to rest house and ended the call. I started my car and drove off. My rest house is near church hill Road; it will take me 50 minutes to reach there. I saw my watch its 11:45 pm, 15 minutes more then I'll enter in 2014 . I switch on the radio to listen my favorite program Chandni raatein - Old Romantic songs .

Oh shit radio signal broke down. Ok I won't take the shortcut and turned my car towards the highway. After a mile,I saw, the whole road is blocked due to heavy snow and heard someone knocking at my car window I rolled down the window glass and the person said- " sir car aage nahin ja payegi pura rasta block hai aap yaha se short cut le lijiye".(" sir you won't be able to take your car through this road its totally blocked , take this shortcut).
I was having no other option so I took the shortcut through the forest to my rest house. As soon as I entered the shortcut road, the front glass of my car was covered with fog in a fraction of seconds. I switched on the car wipers and slowdown my car as it was almost invisible road. Suddenly I saw someone in the middle of the road, a women wearing white saree . I blown my car's horns more than thrice but to no avail. I shouted by taking out my head from the car window " hey are you walking on the beach or something ", move aside but all my efforts gone in vein when she ignored my voice completely.
I came out of the car and jerked her arms such that we faced each other. Before I could say anything that women kept a gun on my forehead. And said "hands up, drive or die and took me towards my car.
