Villagers scared of?

When Rudra was telling people about Tejawat's true colors then it did look like that a few of them were shocked also. I guess the whole villagers are just scared of him that's why they obey his rules and all.

It might not be scare factor.it is more protection factor...
You see if it is not for Tejawat,there will be no one to protect the villagers.the illiterate villagers want someone to protect them and deal with all their troubles.Tejawat had seen to it that he can keep up the faade of protection and get things done his way...
so they are not scared of him but I think it is more of an Awe.

They're scared of the BSD after having believed Tejawat's lies for so long.They look up to him as someone who protects them from the BSD - because as far as they know everything wrong that's happened was because of the BSD. The night Thakur had the bus load of people killed he had told them not to travel at night. I don't think they are scared of him but are overly respectful of what he represents.

Rudra has sown the seed of doubt by asking if anyone has heard from any of the girls who were married across the border and it's a matter of time when thing slowly start adding up in the villagers minds and they start questioning everything Tejawat says.
