What would you do if you were Bhaarmal?

I have strongly condemned this entire eloping drama by Shivani. But I dont knwo what to say abotu Bhaarmal. He was wrong in putting the Mughal Sultanate's pride at stake,so politically,he does deserve to be punished. So,Jalal was right in punishing him because of "political" reasons.
But as a father,do you think Bhaarmal did something wrong? Wanting his daughter to be married off to a man who could give her facilities she is used to? Wanting his daughter to have a "sukhi" life?

Just keep the concept of love aside for a while,do you think he failed as a father?

Yes,if you consider the entire concept of making a girl marry someone against her will,it would be wrong. ABSOLUTELY wrong! But then again,Shivani agreed to the marriage when Jalal asked her face-to-face.
Also, the reason behind Bhaarmal's lack of judgement was in good will. A "kaarighar" would in no way be able to provide a "princess" all the luxuries of life she is used to.

Secondly, even if he did take Shivani's side and decided to marry off his daughter to the guy she loves-a mere kaarighar, the entire Rajputana would have laughed at him. It was Amer's pride at stake. As a king,he would have failed again.

Then again, getting Jodha married to a Mughal had also been a drastic step. But he did it anyway, didn't he? Then why did he show partiality of sorts when it came to Shivani?

Maybe,in Jodha's case,one-his sons lives were at stake,two-Mughals were royal blood at the end of the day.

These are certain valid points which got me wondering. I have debated on both sides-for and against, all in light of a healthy debate. Please take it as a mere debate,no one is being blamed here.

I just want to know, what would you have done if you were Bhaarmal-the father, the Rajvanshi, more importantly-the king?

As a father, he did what anyone would've done. Also the alliance is something that came in a platter to him, he didn't ask for Hakim's hand. He wouldn't have thought Shivani had the guts to elope the way she did. He mustve assumed once married, she too like Jodha would adjust and lead a good life.
BUT as a father in-law of THE Shahenshah, as a father whose daughter is already in the family that he was forming an alliance with, he mustve at least confided about this to Jodha.
They could've talked to Shivani and then have decided how to proceed.
So somewhere he was a let down. He must've taken and prioritized existing relationships before forming new ones.

I would have never allowed her to be sent off, and send that Tejwant off to China or somewhere far. Keep tabs on her and eventually after she gets over this ishq bhooot get her married.
*at this point I would go in the corner and cry over what my child has done. its embarrassing

yes, that's right. Things could have been handled in a different way. But,no one would have thought SHivani would have eloped.

Classic case of being "blind in love".

ditto Also, As a king Bharmal must have arrested Tej for trying to meet the princess in secret and put him in jail for the next 5 years atleast till Shivaani settles.
He shouldn't have sought a bali-bakra in the Mughal family where the respect and life of the first daughter is at stake, even if it fell into his lap. He SHOULD have told Jodha about it.

That's a good solution. But psychology suggests, the more restriction you put on your child, the more is their want to rebel against you.

@bold : I can't even imagine the plight of the father 😭

Bharmal agreed for this marraige of shivani with mughal is just to make sure that shivani atleast marries a royal person...
if shivani dint love a tejwant a servant than Bharmal would have never agreed for this proposal of HM with shivani...

thats why Jalal was doubtful and always asked again and again is Bharmal fine with this relation, he asked shivani too as he knew Jodha was not comfortable marrying jalal... and asked jodha too about this again and again, thank god shivani wrote a letter which saved Jodha..

Bharmal was not wrong in opposing shivanis relation with Tejwant, but was wrong in tricking HM , Jalal and jodha, when jodha told their proposal to shivani, he would have told the truth to jalal and jodha , they would have solved this shivani issue, either they would have made shivani understand that marrying tejwant is a disaster or would have agreed for her love...

but hiding this from joja made situation worst and made shivani run away bride...

Bharmal was wrong, forcefully marrying his daughters is not a good sign of daddy..

Jodha was also married forcefully according to his political affairs...

pity on the daughters who got fathers like bharmal...
daughters wish to choose a better husband is not allowed

very good reasons Bhavya. Its sad that at those times, daughters had to sacrifice at every stage. Its saddening because even now,we have heard of such instances where daughters are not given the first preference.

But all I can say in Bhaarmal's defense is that he had to take decisions as a king first and then as a father. As they say,a king is not just a father to his own children, but he also is a father to all of his subjects.

If it were today, Bharmal could have gotten her married, but still I would face scrutiny, imagine 16th century. Bharmal should have sent Tej somewhere as someone else as pointed ,and requested him to see his point of view. If Tej would have been an honorable man,he would have gone away seeing a father's plea. About Mirza Hakim, I would ask Shivani her opinion. Criticizing only creates resentment, and apologized to her for slapping her. There is a rule to get people on your side, the only that way to show her the pro and con of the repercussion of her decisions. Bharmal should have sat down and explained. As for Mirza Hakim's marriage decision, he should have left it to Shivani. He should explained to her if she elopes or marries her lover, the shame and humiliation her father would have gone through. if i were Shivani , i would go ahead with the marriage . I think I would be mature enough to understand what my action could do.
