KARACHI, Apr 7, 2007
Pakistan allrounder Shoaib Malik on Saturday threatened to take ex- Pakistani Test pacer Sarfraz Nawaz to court for making unsubstantiated match-fixing allegations against the national cricket team.
Malik told reporters before his session with the Pakistan Cricket Board's inquiry committee to probe into the team's failure in the World Cup that he challenged Sarfraz to prove his allegations that Pakistan had deliberately lost their tournament opening match against the West Indies.
"It is an hold habit of Sarfraz to make such allegations against anybody. I challenge him to a debate and I am ready to all the allegations he has made against me. If not, than I will sue him in court for his remarks," Shoaib Malik said.
When contacted, Sarfraz said he would welcome any move by Malik to sue him in court.
"I have said before that going by my experience that Pakistan deliberately performed below par against the West Indies. However they lost their game against Ireland fairly and the result was not in their control," he said.
Sarfraz said he was ready for any legal action from former captain Imran Khan who has also threatened to move court.
"Imran also filed a case against me in 1994. Wasim Akram also did it. But they than ran away. I am sure Shoaib Malik will also do the same thing. I would welcome any action against me in court by anyone I want this issue to be discussed in open."
Sarfraz also slammed the inquiry committee for not calling him and claimed they were inviting irrelevant people for questioning
