Chapter2- Rudra-Paro: He was closer. Closer than the fire.

" Paro, why do you always see fire as a sign of devastation and destruction? Fire is everywhere - in better forms - the holy flames of a hawan kund, the pious fire of the saat pheras that binds two people for life, and the fiery flame of love. Snap out of what has passed and look at the bright side of fire , so that you can win over your fear of it."

-Maamisa.

But does this wisdom register with the fragile, shaken and terrorized Paro? It doesn't. It goes into her subconscious mind , only to appear as latent wisdom someday - the day she falls in love with Rudra and understands that his fiery hatred can only be defeated by the slow burning flame of love. For now, all that Paro can remember is Rudra's eyes , the fire he set around her, how close he was and how he seeped like resident danger into her heart. And how those stone cold yet fiery eyes seem to symbolize the cold blood of the so-called ruthless BSD. The universe has such a dark sense of humour, isn't it? 15 years ago, Paro had given a boy her doll , so that he stops crying and finds a reason to smile. Today that boy haunts her sleeping world as her worst nightmare - piercing through her with a pair of eyes that scream PREMONITION. You sort of laugh, shake your head at her tragedy - if only she knew that those eyes are of Rudra - a man of flesh , blood and stone , who is headed her way - riding through a land that is as barren and lifeless as his heart.

Rudra continues to be a Greta Garbo-esque mystery. You see him but you don't know him. While he traverses the deserts on an endless journey, you are shown a picture of him by a commanding officer that Rudra stands for courage, bravery and heroism. Someone you expect to rise to the occasion and put an end to all that is nonsensical and unlawful. Funny much? Rudra himself is an emotional vagabond behind that oh-so-hot uniform and the Dabang glares.

Moving on, we get a few peephole views into what actually happens in Beerpur:

1. Beerpur villagers are involved in the smuggling of arms and ammunition and that is why they are always running into trouble with BSD who guard the border like a pack of wolves.

2. Thakur uncle is the head of this nexus . Typical villain from the books of Bollywood who is a good Samaritan on the outside but a vicious serpent on the inside. He feels that appeasing God and loading the villagers with generosity will win him an AC room in heaven , and smooth flow of his un-patriotic activities through the village. He is nothing that i have not seen on TV before and he comes from Colors book of villainy and vampgiri where village honchos are bad people. His wife Thakurain Aunty is a Zee TV import of a regal, loving and affectionate mother figure. But i like her - she emanates love without looking artificial and well, Sadia is A FLAWLESS ACTRESS. I like her soft spot for Paro.

3. The Lord Shivji temple scene and how its connected to weddings of young girls was an interesting watch - because rituals all over India are an EPIC watch. The faith of people and the beauty of its innocence takes away your heart. I like how ST has incorporated it into an episode. The bad part is that Thakur Uncle exploits even this purity because am pretty sure that these weddings serve an ulterior motive for him.

And once again, fate walks in. Paro's wedding is fixed and Rudra is on his way - he will meet her, and he will meet her again the day she gets married ( IF THE PROMOS ARE IN CORRECT ORDER ) and her life will never be the same again. Do you think she will recognize him? ... She should... those eyes froze her blood...and someone's eyes, when registered in your psyche are NEVER a thing to forget.

I like the fire anology. The question is will Paro be on the receiving end of the destructive fire of Rudra. Well looks like it. But more interesting was the rudraksha wrapped around her wrists. With the doll, fire & now the rudraksha, R&P have 3 metaphors that links them and their pasts together.

It was a good episode. Im glad they are taking time to introduce and build up the characters instead of rushing into R & P's first meeting. Its the small characters that make a show's longevity.

I absolutely dig Tarun's potrayal of Takurji. he brings the much needed suaveness to a village based negative character. For a moment even I believed him when he said he wasnt going to kill the hapless villager. But even I was mistaken. Gosh! That mustache looks yummy on him.

Sanaya played the part. Her accent was a little better than yesterady. I realised what annoyed me about her accent- her voice pitch & texture has changed in this show. For someone who doesnt know Hindi she trumped the Lucknowi accent very well in IPK. I hope she gets it right soon with RR.

Hi,

Unres* (Apologies for lateness, caught up in new year celebrations)

Once again bravo..what an awesome writer..loved your analysis to the core

Back again with my thoughts and dissection of the episode:-

Liked: -
The Thakur scene outshone for me..gave a feel of how cunning and sly Tejawat is, he has a mysterious side to him...Questions to ask-

How did he get his fame amongst villagers?
Why such strong hatred towards the BSD?
Why does he have fear or protective impact on villagers?

Could it be;

Deceiving BSD men work(ed) for tejawat and terrorize(ed) the village in order for the Thakur to gain power and have custody of Birpur and its people..in other words he played sly in order to get to the top?!

Thakur himself did mention that I get my children educated, single girls married and something about the elderly which I didn't understand..so he does all this for his villagers..but what's his purpose? how does it benefit him?

Also like the fire scene, where her Mamisa gives two outlooks on fire..how it can bring good in one's life or cause absolute havoc...whilst I think fire will cause havoc only in her dreams I also seem to think that in reality fire will also bring her good in the form of marriage or deep love from the heart towards Rudra..and this may just change her way of thinking about the BSD...but the final blow will be upon revelation of how her parent's were killed and by who?

Errrm..(mind blank 😆)

Disliked:-
Was looking forward to a communication between the Senior BSD guy and Rudra instead they decided to show him roaming around the desert.. and my my he seemed to be riding for a long time like a complete loner

After Paro finished talking to herself the scene straight away shifted to the BSD compound..but what I didn't quite like was the fact the they didn't show the outside of the compound or building, it went right on to people talking on radios..looked odd to be honest, or maybe it's just me lol

Mandir scene was good..the locale looked beautiful and was very well directed.. but I couldn't see it as anything other than a Puja gathering

That's all!

Rudra's side of the story is like an open chapter, mother may comeback later on..but with Paro her chapter closed with her parents death, but in the future we may just see it force to be reopened...now this will make viewing very interesting!!

I also hope the makers don't show Paro being scared of fire every time she sees it..because it's going to look unreal..understandable if it is a big fire but for small fire..no a big no!!

Still can't comment on Sanaya's adjustment towards the rajisthani accent..was she better?

Happy New Year..enjoy your day x

Thank you. Yep, if Gautam has written special mention for Rudra's eyes in Paro's memory, she will recall them sooner or later. My guess is as good as yours. 😆

Reserved-Ok, I res'd on IF for the 1st time, so, that's something, but on 1st page, maybe, next time!
Unreserved:
You know you said it all, but today, I'm a little caught up in the whole issue of Rudra's entry/non-entry! I am ok with them taking their time, so, me being caught up with that is more about the effect that whole sequence of Rudra's journey in the land of sand dunes is shown, him driving that bike in the sand, that, for some reason reminded me of this sequence from Ghost Rider where Gost Rider rides that devil of a bike in all his glory as somebody who has sold his soul to the devil! Its a little nuts, yeah! I guess, I should be staying away from Cage's movies for a while!
Anyway, it was stuck in my mind & I had to get it out of my system! The whole mystery surrounding Rudra that, possibly shades a dark damaged soul just fit with the imagery of that scene from the movie, I guess! The swagger fit, I guess, considering how he is supposed to be devil-like, for a while!
Ok, coming back to saner discussions, the episode was consistent with the 1st episode in terms of finesse! They seem to still be setting up this order to air parallel sequences, but are doing okay, though! Ashish has screen presence, I will give him that! He made all the impact that an actor can in an episode without the face being revealed-he seems to have the right body language to express this rugged, rustic power! Sanaya is doing well, she gets her expressions just right!
Thakur-I am not a fan of out & out caricaturised villains but let's see how he fits in to the fabric of the story!
The dream, well, I liked it(considering, I have issues with ridiculous dream sequences on TV-this one, I did like)-I guess, what she saw in her nightmare, Rudra was supposed to be a personification of everything that terrifies & disturbs Paro! And, its all coming, to take her life by storm sooner than she realises!
The marriage is fixed, they are coming to the main plot, the story is moving at a decent pace, main which is good!
P.S: Cinematography, direction, acting, music departments are doing well! I can't seem to get enough of the title track! Great review, by the way!
