Chapter 22

We walked into the house to find that everyone else was asleep. "Lagta hain ki sab so gaye hain," I said. "Haan. Mujhe bhi so jaana chaiye. Kal mujhe hospital jaana hain na," she said and turned towards the stairs. "Good night," I called after her. "Good night," she replied. After she went upstairs, I headed towards the kitchen. I was hungry and was looking for the leftovers of dinner that mom would have left. That was weird. There were no leftovers. "Kya dhoond re ho?" Antara asked. "Tum toh abhi upar gayi thi na?" I asked. "Haan, par tum to neeche hi they, toh mujhe laga ki tume kuch chaiye hoga. Tume bhook lagi hai kya?" she asked. "Nahi, main toh bas aisi hi dekh raha tha," I said. "Tumare chere par saaf saaf likha hain ki tum jhoot bol rahe ho. Tum betho, main tumare liye kuch khaane ke liya bana deti hoon," she said. "Nahi, tum jaake so jao, it's ok," I said. "Raghu," she said. "Ok, par kuch special karne ki zaroorat nahi hain," I said. "Ok, tum bahar beth jao, main abhi khana bana kar lati hoon," she said. I went outside and was pacing. I went back in the kitchen to check on her and saw that she was having trouble getting a box down. I went behind her and put my hand on top of hers to help her. She turned and was about to fall when I caught her. Our hands left the box and the flour dropped on top of us. We were too lost in each other's eyes to notice what had happened. It wasn't until we heard mom's voice that we realized what position we were in. "Ahem," she said. Antara quickly stood up and I let go of her. "Woh... mom... main woh Antara ki help kar raha tha," I said. "Fridge mein khana para hain, garam kar ke kha lo. Aur haan, Raghu, yeh sara mess tum saaf karoge," mom said and left the kitchen. "Raghu, tum bhi na, fridge mein dekh nahi sakte they?" she asked. "Sorry," I said and went to the fridge. "Tum jao, itna toh main bhi kar longa," I said. "Ok, good night," Antara said and left the kitchen.

I woke up the next morning to the sound of my alarm. It was 7'o clock and the orientation started at 9. I got up and got ready. When I came out of the bathroom, I heard a knock on my door. "Come in," I said while drying my hair. I looked at the door and saw that it was Raghu.

I knocked on her door and she said, "Come in." I opened the door and saw her drying her hair. She looked beautiful. Like an angel. She turned towards me and saw me looking at her. She had a small smile on her face. I broke our eye lock by looking on the other side and remembered what I had come to ask her. "Aaj tume hospital jaana hain na?" I asked. "Haan," she replied. "Main tume chod do?" I asked. "Ok," she said. "Tayaar hoke neeche aa jaana, mom ne breakfast bana diya, tumara wait kar rahi hain," I said. "Ok," she said. I went back downstairs and waited for Antara to come downstairs.

I walked downstairs and saw Raghu waiting for me. We went to the breakfast table together and sat down. Only Rukhsana Aunty was there. "Good morning, Aunty," I said. "Good morning, beta. Tum jaldi se breakfast kar lo, phir tume hospital bhi toh jaana hain," she said. "Ji Aunty," I said and sat down. Raghu sat down next to me. While we were sitting and eating, Raghu grabbed my left hand under the table. I looked towards him shocked. "Raghu, mera haath chodo," I whispered. He shook his head and told me to continue eating. I was right handed so it didn't make to much of a difference to me, but when Rukhsana aunty saw me eating with one hand only, she said, "Antara, tum ek haath se kyun kha rahi ho?" "Kuch nahi Aunty, bas aisi hi," I replied. "Raghu, uss ka haath chodo," she said. "Mom," Raghu said and quickly let go of my hand. "aap ko kaise pata?" he asked. "Main tumari maa hoon Raghu, ab jaldi se apna breakfast khatam karo, tume Antara ko chodne bhi jaana hain. Main nahi chati ki Antara tumari wajese late ho jaye," she said. We finished our breakfast and headed out to the car.
