Another funny number from director Kalidas's 1962 Kishore 'da starrer comedy "Half-Ticket". The duet is in the voices of Kishore 'da & Kishore 'da -- realize the female voice is also of the gr8 master himself, with music composition of Salil (Chowdhury) 'da & lyrics of Shailendra Saab. This song is a tribute to the genius of Kishore 'da and shows what a gr8ly talented guy he was.

This hilarious number is from director Kalidas's 1962 Kishore 'da-Madhubala (his wife) starrer rip-roaring laugh riot "Half-Ticket". The duet is in the voices of Kishore 'da & Geeta Dutt ji, with music composition of Salil (Chowdhury) 'da & lyrics of Shailendra saab. Kishore 'da was IMO the most talented and versatile personality to ever grace the Indian screen, one watches his performances -- comedy, emotional, singing, music, lyrics --- and realises that how much lucky India was to have a person of his stature.

The unconventional, the incomparable... VINAY KUMAR
Singer, actor, director, filmmaker, composer, comedian...the list goes on. Kishore Kumar was all this and much more.
During Emergency days in 1975, Kishore refused to sing to the tune of the ruling regime and was banned from the state-owned All India Radio for sometime.

REAL GEM Kishore Kumar charged Re.1 less than Lata Mangeshkar to pay respect to Lata Mangeshkar's talent and seniority.
Born 77 years ago in a Bengali Brahmin family in Khandwa, Madhya Pradesh that had nothing to do with music, Kishore Kumar headed for Bombay in 1948 where his elder brother Ashok Kumar had established himself as an actor. His dream was to meet K.L. Saigal from whom he drew inspiration and whom he idolised and then made a career for himself as a singer in Hindi filmdom. As luck would have it, Kishore Kumar was forced into acting and it was years later that he blossomed into a versatile playback singer. Everlasting, evergreen voice that yoddled away to glory, Kishore Kumar's genius refused to be bracketed into a particular category. Playback singer, actor, director, filmmaker, composer and comedian, he easily slipped into the role assigned to him, be it composing music or acting.

Born as Abhas Kumar Ganguly, he lived life on his own terms and seemed to enjoy every bit of it. His eccentricities, his fun-loving nature and antics which many veterans in Bollywood still recall pale into insignificance when the serious side of a deft director and composer came to the fore. Directorial debut Kishore Kumar silenced his critics with his directorial debut in 1964 classic "Door Gagan Ki Chhaon Mein", story of a soldier, Shankar, who returns to find his family and house ravaged in a fire with his traumatised son being the only survivor. For the first time, the real life father-son duo Kishore Kumar and Amit Kumar played the two challenging roles. Though the film was not a hit, it brought out the genius of Kishore Kumar in ample measure. He was to direct eight films but none could match "Door Gagan Ki Chhaon Mein" which was outstanding for the sheer sensitivity which Kishore Kumar showed in portrayal of its characters. The foray of the three Ganguly brothers - Ashok, Anoop and Kishore - in coming together for a hilarious "Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi" was also much appreciated by the cinemagoers. Here too, it was Kishore Kumar who sang and danced opposite Madhubala who was to be his second wife. His first marriage to Ruma Ghosh, a theatre personality, did not last long and knowing fully well that Madhubala was suffering from a serious heart ailment, he married her and took care of the actress for nine years. He described his third marriage to Hindi film heroine Yogita Bali as a "farce" and it was over within a short span. He enjoyed marital bliss with his fourth wife, Leena Chandavarkar, also a Bollywood heroine and his second son, Sumit Kumar, was born off this wedlock. Great respect He was once quoted as saying that he charged Re.1 less than Lata Mangeshkar as a gesture showing his respect for her in the arena of playback singing. From "Jhumroo" to paan-chewing music instructor of "Padosan" (1968), Kishore Kumar's improvised comedy overshadowed others. Kishore displayed his expertise in modulating voice to suit that of heroes for whom he was singing behind the screen, be it Dev Anand in "Guide", "Johnny Mera Naam" or Rajesh Khanna in "Aradhana" and other movies or Amitabh Bachchan in "Amar, Akbar Anthony" and "Namak Halal". Critics agreed to a large extent that it was the versatile, melodious voice of Kishore Kumar that lent superstardom to Dev Anand and Rajesh Khanna. And the turning point was "Aradhana" in 1969 which showcased Kishore Kumar in "Mere Sapno Ki Raani" and "Roop Tera Mastana" under the guidance of the veteran Sachin Dev Burman. Kishore Kumar too never concealed his admiration for the Burmans - Sachin and his composer son Rahul Dev who gave a number of musical hits with Kishore Kumar. If he honed his skills under the guidance of Sachin, it was Rahul Dev Burman who exploited Kishore's romantic touch. Truly, Kishore Kumar's pairing with the Burmans changed the face of Hindi film music in the '70s. During Emergency days in 1975, he refused to sing to the tune of the ruling regime and was banned from the state-owned All India Radio for sometime. But it did not dent his popularity and he was to entertain us for another 12 years. Born on August 4, 1929, Kishore Kumar's acting career spanned 50 films and he sang for some 200 movies. A massive heart attack snatched him from this mortal world on October 13, 1987.

Songs like "Zindagi Ke Safar Mein Guzar Jaate Hain... " from "Aapki Kasam", "Zindagi Ka Safar, Hai Ye Kaisa Safar" from "Safar" and "Yeh Jo Mohabbat Hai" from "Kati Patang" besides scores of others will keep on ringing in our minds for a good number of years to come.
