to abandon the child.. does this mean killing or throwing away? throwing away I don't think can correct it.. he is the legal heir or not, he is still available to be a cause of destruction via some Plan B..
The current Dushi we see is the second born and he had no idea to become the King.. after the Gandharva fight, he gets emotional when Dury says that he will commit suicide and Dushi can take the thrown.. If Dury was killed, there are all possible chances that Dushi turns out to be the destroyer.. i don't think any Kshatriya of that time was a good boy to share or give away the land which he thinks belongs to him.. probably now we would be talking about the inhuman killing of the innocent first born of Gandhari..after all ill omens were FYI notifications.. not FYA 😆
Abandoning the child here meant adopting out the child & changing his legal parents - like what happened w/ Karna. In Karna's case, there was no father, just a mother; but in this case, it would have been up to Dhritarashtra to hand over Duryodhan say, to some rishi, so that his damage could be minimized. Or to a shudra. Then Duryodhan wouldn't have retained a Kaurava gotra - he'd have assumed the gotra of whoever adopted him, and once this happened, he'd have lost all rights in Dhritarashtra's succession. Like Karna assumed that of Adiratha. It wasn't necessary to kill him, although given Ganga's example, it wouldn't have been unprecedented for this dynasty. The Dushashan you're describing above is one who grew up w/ Duryodhan and was too attached to him by then. But if @ childhood this was done, then the relationship b/w Duryodhan & Dushashan would have been similar to the relationship b/w Yudisthir & Karna: there would have been no loyalty, & Dushashan would have looked @ Duryodhan, even if this came out, as a potential challenger to him. His other 99 brothers, in this situation, would have supported him over Duryodhan, just like the Pandavas still supported Yudisthir after Karna's secret became known.
