Chapter 16

The entire morning passed by quickly with preparing for the marriage. I didn't get to see Antara at all since she was so busy. I was eager to see her face but there was nothing that I could do. I would have to wait until the wedding.

It was finally time for the wedding. Everyone had arrived and the wedding had begun. I saw Antara come down the stairs. She was wearing a beautiful red and silver lengha. I lost my self in her again. I couldn't believe that she was coming to Mumbai with us and that we were going to be living in the same house. After the wedding, I saw that Antara in the hall upstairs. She was getting a little teary. I saw the vase of roses on the table and picked one up and went to Antara. I gave her the rose and said "A beautiful rose for a beautiful lady. Waise bhi, teri yeh dono kaali kaali aankhon mein aansu ache nahi lagte." She smiled. "Miss Kaul, main tera dost hoon na?" I asked. "Haan," she replied. "Toh kya main jaan sakta hoon ki teri aankhon mein aansu kyun they?" I asked. "Woh, aaj mera Kashmir mein last day hain na. Kal main tumare saath Mumbai aa rahi hoon," she said. "Toh iss mein rone ki kya baat hain? Main itna bhi bura nahi hoon ki tujhe rona aa jaye," I said, acting offended. "Tumari wajese nahi. Main sab ko bahut miss karongi na, issi liye," she said. "Acha, phir theek hain," I said. "Waise kal subha humari flight hain, toh tum jaa kar so jao." "Haan, good night," she said. "Good night," I said.

Even after talking to Raghu, I wasn't going to be able to sleep. It was my last night in Kashmir for the time being. I tossed and turned, but nothing helped me to fall asleep, so I picked up my favourite book and started reading it.

The next morning, we set off for Mumbai. In the plane, I sat with Antara. "Tum mujhe Mumbai ghumaoge kya?" she asked. "Haan, kyun nahi. Mere paas toh time hi time hain," I said. "Tum koi kaam nahi karte?" she asked. "Papa chate hain ki main unki business mein help karon, par mera koi maan nahi hain," I said. "Toh phir?" she asked. "Toh phir kya, sara din ghumta rehta hoon, tume bhi ghuma donga," I said. "Raghu, tum bhi na. Acha, promise?" she asked. "Promise," I said.

Our flight landed and we headed towards Raghu's house. They called it the Naik Sadan. I didn't know why it was called that. His last name was Singh. Anyways, the name sounded familiar. I think I might have heard it somewhere. We got out of the car and walked into the basti. I had another one of those flashbacks. Raghu jumped from the roof and landed on the taxi and the glass broke. Inside the taxi, there I was. How was that possible? I had never met Raghu in this way. And that too in Mumbai? I had never come here before. I had to talk to Raghu about this. I would definitely talk to him about this. Payal Di and I were welcomed into the basti with warm arms and greetings. It felt like home. Di did her grahepravesh and I had some memory of doing this as well. But I wasn't with Raghu. It was some other guy. I couldn't recognize him. I was happy for Di though, she was going to start her new life with this whole new family that loved her a lot. I walked into the house with Raghu and all of a sudden, it was as if a thousand memories hit my head. It was too much to handle. My head started to hurt a lot and I held onto Raghu's with one hand and held my head with the other. "Antara, kya hua?" he said. "Raghu, usse wahan bithado," Rukhsana Aunty said. Once I sat down and had some water, I felt better but I couldn't understand what was happening. "I think ki Antara ko kuch zayaada hi thak gayi hain," Raghu said. "Haan, tum ek kaam karo, tum usse guest room mein le jao," Rukhsana aunty said. "Theek hain mom," Raghu said and offered me his hand. I took his hand he walked me to the guest room. "Tum theek to ho na?" he asked. "Yeah, par mujhe tumse kuch baat karni thi," I said. "Haan bolo," he said.
