Here's the thing. In today's day and age, people are more likely to divorce or separate as compared to 20 years ago. So the truth of the matter is that a lot of people divorce every day around the world. Now obviously coz these are celebs, we hear and talk about them more often. It is extremely hyped to the point where we feel the impact to be ten times more than it really is. Just like normal people are divorcing, so are the celebs. It's just that we don't hear about the rate of normal divorces and end up giving a lot of undue importance to the celeb divorces.
Now since you bought up SRK-Gauri, I would love to put in my two cents before everyone jumps in with their sarcastic comments and baseless accusations. And I would love to share my SRK-Gauri love.
I believe it is easy to judge celeb couples when you hardly know much about their history or them in particular. Like I loved HR-Suzzane, but I hardly followed their interviews or stories to be able to claim that the rumors surrounding them are false or baseless. Or for example, it is much easier for me to doubt Ranbir Kapoor since I hardly read up anything about him.
But I have been a huge SRK admirer since years and have followed most of everything he does. And since one of the most sincere and beautiful parts of SRK is his attachment to his family, I have obviously taken immense pleasure in following that aspect of his life. It's so easy for people who don't know SRK-Gauri's story to turn around and believe anything. Even if it's just gossip. Even if SRK comes out and denies the whole thing. It's easy because they haven't followed him from the start. And the truth is that his stories still remain the same to this date.
Like I wonder if people know that SRK has known Gauri since she was 14? That he has sat with her in her college classes, made notes for her and helped her pass most of her exams? That he is the one who taught Gauri how to drive? That he remembers the song that was playing when they kissed the first time? That he doesn't enjoy partying, but learned to love it since Gauri loves to dance? That she was 22 when she trusted this guy and got married to him? That he repeatedly loves narrating the story where they went out for a walk and made promises to stick by each other?
That Gauri and Shah lived with only a mattress in their house for the first five years in Mumbai? That SRK's favorite desert in the world is the way Gauri makes a topping of glucose biscuits? That SRK gets paranoid when Gauri travels alone and he needs to be updated with every little detail? That he is obsessed with going and picking Gauri from the airport whenever he is abroad? That he has no family other than Gauri and her extended family? I can go on and on.
If you haven't followed SRK for a long time, then you won't ever be able to understand why SRK could never even think of anything else other than his family. He seems to live for them. His family is practically everything to him. If you especially followed him during the 90's, while all the other actors had scandals and affairs gossip going on in the magazines, SRK's biggest scandal were his bold and passionate statements about his love for Gauri. He's mellowed down a lot after his kids came into the picture. But I can guarantee you, the only way you can break him and bring about his downfall is if something happens to his family.
But all the above statements I made, all of them came from so many quarters. And not just one, you'll have 2-3 people saying the same thing about SRK-Gauri. All the couples are nice, but why does everyone, on say a show like KWK, always pick SRK-Gauri when it came to couples? Coz their genuine. You can watch them in an interview together and they'll be so chilled out and relaxed. People turn around and question sometimes whether they even like each other, after watching an interview. But that's how they are. They just like being. And that's why their relationship is so beautiful and long-lasting.
lol sorry for the huge essay. But truth be told, I can write so much more on why they have lasted the way they have.
Also TM, you said you read his autobiography, do you remember the part where it talks about SRK-Gauri's wedding night disaster?😳
