As the baddie Aseem in the Sony drama Durgesh Nandinii, Anupam Bhattacharya is the mainstay in creating havoc in Durgesh's life. Here he talks about being Aseem.

What drives Aseem to be such a negative character?

His agenda is clear — to get his hands on the millions that his late father Dharamdas Srivastava bequeathed to a village girl (Durgesh Nandinii) who cared for him after a road mishap.

He feels he should get what is rightfully his.

He behaves this way because of circumstances around him.

How far can Aseem go?

Very far. I am the eldest son of Dharamdas Srivastava and even plotted to kill my father when I realised that he was not going to bequeath his millions to us.

So in that sense, I can do anything in my quest to be the rightful heir. At the moment, I am unaware that Durgesh Nandinii is not after our money but is there to knock some sense into us before handing over the millions.

Do you relate to Aseem?

I have always related to strong characters as I go into great detail and depth to portray them. I like characters that are driven and determined and know no bounds. In that sense, I relate to Aseem, but not as Anupam.

How believable is Aseem's character?

I guess when people find themselves in a similar situation, they will resort to such underhand things. When there is Rs 5,000 crore at stake, all sorts of wheeling-dealings take place in the family to reap maximum benefits.

Everything ultimately boils down to money.
