"Indian Idol" is back

New Delhi, March 15 (IANS) With singers Alisha Chinoy and Udit Narayan joining Anu Malik in the jury, Sony Entertainment Television Thursday announced the third season of its singing talent-hunt show - 'Indian Idol'.

'There is tremendous talent in India and 'Indian Idol' gives an ultimate platform to budding singers to showcase their talent. The show is going to rock this time,' music composer Anu Malik told reporters.

The press conference was also attended by ex-Idols Rahul Vaidya, Adetti and Meenal.

An adaptation of the blockbuster 'Pop Idol' show in Britain, the Indian version aims to select the best singing talents across the nation. The process will start with auditions in 12 cities where aspirants between the age group of 16 and 30 years will participate.

In Delhi, the auditions will take place March 17-19 and will be marked by the presence of judges and ex-Idols in order to encourage Delhiites to take part in large numbers.

'I am delighted to join 'Indian Idol' as a judge. We have huge hopes to get some good voices from Delhi and Kolkata. We are looking for the three C's - charisma, creative ability and consistency,' said pop singer Chinoy.

Playback singer Narayan said: 'It is the first time that I will join 'Indian Idol' as a judge. But I am here to learn from the contestants. I am very excited about it and thank Sony for giving me this opportunity.'

The winner of the reality show will bag a recording contract with Sony BMG and also with Sony Entertainment Television worth Rs.10 million.
