Sonu: Not bubbly about Bunty!

Bunty Walia's musical concert The Incredibles, slated to be held in 18 cities across the US, West Indies and UK in May, has run into trouble.

Even before concrete plans go on floors, one of the show's bigger singers, Sonu Niigaam, has pulled out of the gig.

'I'm not a bonus'

According to a source close to Sonu, the singer is miffed that he is being packaged as part of a group of singers (including Asha Bhonsle, Kunal Ganjawala and Kailash Kher), instead of being promoted as the main attraction.

Niigaam is also upset that the show is being projected as an Asha Bhonsle concert with him as an added bonus.

When Sonu threatened to pull out, a representative of one of the main sponsors called to say that if he backed out, the sponsors would withdraw as well.

Now that Niigaam has made up his mind to step out, a close friend of his, tells us that the singer is not acting difficult. He is simply demanding what was promised to him.

"At the time of signing the contract, Sonu was told that he would be the main attraction, while the other singers would be add-ons.

This may seem surprising because Ashaji is also part of the show, but the fact is that Rocky (the organiser) wanted to ride on Sonu's successful US concerts last year. The public there is anxiously waiting for him to come again."

Niigaam was also paid more than Asha Bhonsle to do the concerts, because the organisers were confident of making good returns. Sonu's friend says, "Naturally, when Sonu learnt that Bunty was focusing more on Ashaji in his publicity campaign here in India, he felt cheated.

He considers Ashaji his mother, but that doesn't mean his brand should get diluted. Sonu didn't want to cheat his fans; he suspects Walia has scripted less of him in the concert than what was promised."

However, a member from Walia's camp says that it's strange how Sonu could believe he would be the protagonist of a show that also has Asha Bhonsle on the stage.

When contacted, Nigam admits that he is not doing the show anymore. "Yes, I have opted out, but I don't want to dwell on the reasons for my decision. I will talk about this only at a later date," he says.

Meanwhile, Walia maintains, "Every form of publicity that I have done in India so far has been approved by the organiser Rocky. Beyond that, I don't want to say anything else."

Rocky, who is in London, says, "I am very stressed. I am flying down to Mumbai in the next two days. I have informed Sonu's manager Ben Thomas that I want to sort this out.

Sonu is nursing a misunderstanding. I am selling the show abroad as an Asha Bhonsle-Sonu Nigam Nite, and he had been told exactly that. Besides, I am publicising Sonu's name here very well, so he needn't be worried about that."

Sonu's friend defends him saying, "Rocky should have been clear with Sonu, at least then things wouldn't have become messy.

Sonu was not told that the show would be marketed as an Asha Bhonsle-Sonu Niigaam show. He may have been publicised very well abroad, but why paint a
different picture here in India?"

The Incredibles, supposed to kick off on May 10, has been planned for cities like Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Atlanta, Orlando, New Jersey, Washington, Boston, Detroit, Philadelphia, Houston and Dallas, and also Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary, West Indies and London.

Is Sonu Nigam doing the right thing??? 😕 it's like Justin timberlake saying why Bruce springsteen

is getting more footage than him in a concert together , although justin is the latest craze ...

.....u can't pull out from the show bec a legendary singer is getting more footage !!!!!!!! 😕

I mean the Article at the end clearly says that the show was targeted as Asha Bhosle- Sonu Nigam

show ... come on, a legend is a legend ....

If it was a question between Sonu and Shaan or Sonu and Udit ,I would have understood ....But

When Temptation 2004 was on tour ..people were crazy about SRK but every participant in the

show was given equal footage and the show had a record turnout .....

Not for a single moment SRK made any participant feel that he/she is any less than others ....

I love Sonu's voice , he is definitely the best among the present day established singers , but I

adore and respect Ashaji several times more ...

in her concert she can still give young singers run for their money !!!!!!!!

So I am surprised by Sonu's actions ....

I want to hear Sonu's version too , but his friend is saying Sonu is not happy as it's not promoted as his concert so it must be true ..... 😕

I'm disappointed with the news. I don't think Sonu is doing the right thing. If he had backed out cos of personal/family reasons, I could understand. But this reason is just shocking, if its true. 😕

well...he wud never say hez above Ashaji in no way...he only said that its his name which will attract all his fans to the show...and it will only be called an Asha Bhonsle show...dats taking undue advantage of him naa...dats all he said...rest is all spiced up...he basically likes doing his own concerts...its just a publicity misunderstanding...I am sure will b sorted out soon...its fine if he dosnt wanna b part of it...dere r 3 other singers naa...if dey want to use his name for attracting the audiences dey shud give him due importance...dats all...dere is no legend issue here...Ashaji is a legend...but its fact that Sonuji's name will sttract more audiences...itts dat they told him something when he signed da contract and r doing something else...

I don't think Sonu's decision is right. Nowhere it states that they are projecting Asha Bhonsale. I saw an ad. for the show and it just said 'The incredibles' and named all the artists. I hope Sonu is not riding on any kind of supremacy because success and fame are short-lived.

I just talked with them...what I said is true..They dont wanna go 4 a show in which he is less important...not any disrespect for Ashaji..he has reached a stage where he wants 2 do shows only when he is the lead protagonist...dey released ads saying da Asha Bhoonsle show featuring Sonu Niigaam,Kunal Ganjawala and Kailash Kher and dey didnt feel da need to go ahead wid such a venture...dats it...

I think Sonu is doing the wrong thing cos Asha is a legend in every way. Definitely people will go to watch cos Sonu is a huge craze too, but I feel they should just give them equal footage.

In most shows if it's only Sonu he likes to interact with the public a lot so I think it might no be the same if Asha is there. 😊

sonuji is the best so he deserves everything but Ashaji is one of my fav singers too..... 😳 but sonuji is the best and i know Ashaji is a legend....but whatever happens..happens for a reason and for good...
