Awesome post and quite an eye opening one for me! 👏
I'l just vent out my jumbled thoughts on the epi first and try to address the brilliant nuances you've pointed out.
Even since I watched the episode I can't help but think that for the first time in a long long time, I saw the true essence of the show yesterday. Finally! Yes, I know this might get some flames but let me explain. It's a dance show true - hell it's even got it in it's very name, but it is also a show about people whose very existence is defined by dance. And yes, I truly saw the language of dance, that passion, that expression and that sheer NEED for it come through yesterday.
Kurbaan Hua was Rey at his honest best. I have yet to come across a scene where he has expressed himself better than he did last night. Now I admit I haven't been a long time faithful follower but after last night I can guarantee that any instance that shows Rey's at his sincere best would definitely have used dance as an expression form, not words, not promises but just his body conveying his emotions.
Needless to say, that was my favourite moment of last night's episode. That move when he falls flat to the floor and nearly balls over and then lays straight on his stomach was anguish, pain and a better expression of what Kriya's betrayal did to him then words can describe.
In that moment, when he started dancing and the emotions, memories and feelings overwhelmed him - it was all about Rey. His confusion, rage, insecurity, helplessness, pain - the perfect portrayal of what Kriya's betrayal, Swayam's half-truth and Taani's departure did to him.
All and all, hats off to Amar for giving us that perfect perfect experience and the CVs for bringing forth the heart of the show.
Another thing that stood out for me in the episode was a simple truth. Rey is like a wounded lion. His lashing out at Kriya in front of the entire class, his interaction with Swayam and his moment' with Kriya later in the rehearsal hall - everything screamed it.
As he tells Swayam, there is too much going on and he needs time. He doesn't believe Swayam. I loved loved loved the way Swayam draws the comparison between Rey and Sharon's friendship to Kriya's and his. How Swayam uses the simple truth to get him to see reason. How Rey KNOWS but just can't convince his heart. Rationally he knows the dynamics KS share but but his heart's been cracked anew by this new revelation and he just can't can't move past it. No matter how logical, rational, sensible the explanation may be.
I liked that the phone rang in Swayam's presence. That he knew Rey was avoiding him. Loved the panic Swayam felt when he realised he might be loosing a huge chunk of Rey's trust, his friendship. How he needed to mend the bond. But my favourite moment was when Rey decided to show him just the tip of the iceberg of emotional turmoil he is going through. That was just the tip and it rendered Swayam speechless. I really don't think even Rey understands the extent of what he feels, just that it's all too much.
I was just like you weirded out by his pic when Swayam called. Although ReYam shippers should rejoice! *hint hint*
Oh and I loved the fact that Swayam mentioned Taani. She was his sister. He can't just forget about her. And she was a huge turning point in Rey's life. Taani is a very important milestone in his life and she plays a role in KriYaansh love story too. By being there when Kriya wasn't.
Loved how you penned down that bit about memories.
And then the next part made me take back all my doubts. He DID NOT believe him... He is just faking it. For everybody. For his sanity. For his exterior.
And he'll continue faking it... until he breaks down.
But then, he'll put up Reyaansh Singhania for his defense. And he'll put on so many layers of Reyaansh Singhania, that it'd be impenetrable. And that it'd make nobody see the hurt and weak and oh-so human Rey inside.
And as soon as Kria came, we had our Ruthless Reyaansh back. Hurting her so that he could hide. Hurting her to keep himself safe.
THOSE lines have my heart. Thank you!
Right from the project exercise to the countdown moment, that was Rey at his defensive best. He's lashing out and roaring so she would get scared, turn tail and run away. Run away and leave him alone to lick his wounds. Wounds he didn't even know were still capable of bleeding after so long.
Oh and yes, I'm so glad Kriya has finally had a reality check. It was high time. Actually I think Ruthless!Rey needs to face Stubborn!Kriya. It's the only way he can heal. He needs to let out this venom he's got inside and she is the only answer. She causes it and only she is capable of healing it. But before the healing begins, she'll have to see and acknowledge the extents of the scars and how deep they run.
There is a very thin fine line between hate and love.Rey's hate is a thousand times better than his indifference. It means there is still fire there. Just waiting until Kriya realises this.
Not to mention the tug of war between hate and love that Rey is going to experience is going to be fun to watch and the way he is going to keep pawing off at Kriya in his confusion. And the precap is the just the beginning of that see-saw. Loved the way he says Kriya when the gang (who I'm quickly loosing patience with!) taunts her as American dance trainer and his expressions!
dekh to dil ke jaan se uthta hai
yeh dhuan sa kahaan se uthta hai
P.S. You make me wish I had seen the old episodes so I knew this Arrogant Reyaansh Singhania you mentioned.
P.P.S. That countdown scenes got my heart racing. Their chemistry is SIZZLING! And hats off to Kriya for having the guts to go forward and willingly face that wrath all on her own. She's either very brave or very blind.
