Major confusion must be cleared!

Why in the world would TARUN want BANI dead!
The letter that bani found said that the accident was meant for her. Tarun looks guilty as well. So why, if tarun was behind all this, want BANI the woman he loves dead? Sahil died before we even found out that tarun has feelings for Bani right? So would it make sense if Tarun tried to kill Bani before, but his plan backfires and he gets sahil killed, and then later finds he loves bani but still wants her dead!
