Part Eleven

Roka:

Gupta family visit Raizada house for Roka ceremony, as it is planned between the families. Raizada family welcomes their new relations grandly with heir to-be-daughter-in-laws. On cue Arnav and Akash also come down all ready for the big event, adorned in Indo-western suits, ready to kill.

Akash openly stares Payel while Arnav caches a glimpse of Khushi, is wearing a beige brown, red lahenga designed with beads, bugle bead, embroidered with crystal, gold zardosi, stones and velvet patch work, with minimum jewelry, she is looking unearthly.

When time comes and both pair proceed towards the dais for the Roka ceremony Akash stretch his hand towards Payel to climb take for support climbing the few steps as it is the lahenga is very heavy in compare to her fragile figure.

Khushi has no such hope from Arnav so she starts climbing herself. But the lahenga is so heavy. She wouldn't have wore it if it isn't a gift from Angali jifor this special occasion and she looked too excited to let down. Well if you see that way then she has gifted her as well Payel with dresses and jewelries for every event. Khushi mentally shrugs thinking of the tortures she is going to face in this wedding drama.

Khushi struggles to climb up by managing her dupatta and lahenga which are not ready to get managed at all and she looks quite flustered and frustrated, when she sees a firm hand stretch in front her and knowing the owner she looks up in disbelief. Arnav signs with his eyes to take the hand. As she does, very gently he helps her to climb up and only leaves her hand when she takes the position beside him.

Khushi is completely taken aback with his gesture... was it just pretence or for real, she thinks and then shakes her head to even giving it a thought for real. Here Arnav himself looks clueless about his new found gentleman side.

While slipping the diamond ring in her ring finger he sees a lone tear flows down her cheek. His hand almost reaches to wipe it from her face but he controls the urge, releasing the ASR in him. When Khushi holds his hand to put the ring, he feels her soft touch, like a feather her fingers move on his skin. He just stares at her.

Today she is looking different form the other day. She is smiling genuinely. Has she accepted this marriage as real? Then that tear... Oh! she is pretending convincingly.

Payel and Akash also exchange their rings too.

The families and the guests congratulate the new to-be-married-couples and bestow them with hugs and blessings for their new beginning ahead.

Roka is done. Next is Mehendi after 2 days.

Mehindi:

After much pleading from Akash, an exasperated Anjali request both families to do the Mehindi function In Raizada Mansion too. So here again Raizada family gives warm and hearty welcome to the Guptas.

Mehindi Artists are drawing in each of the woman's hands. Anjali is also there. Boys are not allowed though Akash is admiring Payel from his hiding.
Arnav, who is been crossing the corridor sees Akash, watching Payel, from his hiding behind the curtain of flowers, mutters what the...?' and taps on his shoulder and Akash turns back all alarmed.
Arnav- What the hell you are doing?
Akash (relaxed and confident) - watching.
Arnav raises his eyebrows in amusement and shakes his head, unable to believe his brother's Romeo antics, turns to leave but then he catches a small bit of a conversation and it is her voice that stops him. The mehendi artist is asking Khushi what alphabet to write in her plum and she immediately answers "A".

He thinks, so easily she has accepted this marriage and this marriage related rituals as if it is a lifelong commitment... but when he is really able to take a close look of her face, he sees the reality behind the mask in point blank range and the intensity of her vulnerable eyes which are displaying the naked truth of her emotions, first time makes him feel a pang in his heart, which doesn't go well with the ego and pride of Arnav Singh Raizada so he turns on his heels and leaves the place as soon possible.

"I simply don't believe in marriage... So here is the deal, marry me for 3 months and I will pay you 15 lacks in return... and whatever problem you have will be solved."

"...I have doubts that after living in Raizada house for 3 months, you merely will have any wish to leave hence we will sign a contract..."

"Mad or not but I don't think you have a choice Khushi Gupta."

"but take your time and think wisely, marriage, no marriage, babooji ka shop, no babooji ka shop... and your sister's marriage, how will that happen, how you will make the arrangements?"

"THINK KHUSHI GUPTA. What do you want? ... You can take the paper sign it and call Buaji to say yes in your behalf and start with the wedding rest leave on me or just leave from here and let your Babooji drown... 15 minutes all you have..".

...those 15 minutes changed her life...

The Roka, This Mehndi, in which she is sitting and happily (well pretending happily) supplying the first alphabet of her fianc's name, and upcoming wedding all are results of those 15 minutes.

Wedding which she had dreamt of... and wedding she will have for 3 months...

Khushi feels same vulnerable as she felt in those 15 minutes, sitting in Anjaliji's cabin, signing and sealing her fate...

Her transcript smile falters for a moment. She tries hard to blink her tears back. She tries to force the blushing smile back on her face and looks miserable.

No one notices except two brown orbs, and this is what makes Arnav almost realize that he is ruining a life in his Ego and Pride, so he leaves.

Arnav comes to his room. Slams the door behind and the first thing he sees breaks in rage.
Why Khushi why? Why I can see your unshed tears? Why Khushi Gupata? Why you are affecting me?

He is ASR, Who was born from the ashes of Arnav Malik... Arnav Malik who died with his mother, with his uncle's betrayal... ASR left Lucknow with his Di, only person, he wanted to leave for... Chotey lived only for his Di... Then why? ... Why the ghost of human Arnav is rising again in the corpse of ASR... to care for someone's feelings... tears... smile and... Khushi Gupta.

Arnav doesn't want to be alone anymore or else he will continue this argument with himself, which is driving him crazy. He decides to go downstairs. There the crowd and racket may divert his mind.


Mehndi ceremony is now over. Ladies are busy taking care of their hands.
Akash as always busy admiring Payel. Today he has a company also, Shyam. Both men are admiring their ladies as they are from out of the planet.

If they could then they would have not let the mehndi dry forever and keep sprinkling water and Why shouldn't they? ... Payel and Anjali both have wet mehendi in their hand unable to do their work and same all the ladies present there. So by Nani and Buaji's order husband and to-be-husbands are helping their ladies. Whether it is to organize their pallu or their hair, Akash and Shyam happy to do anything as long as they can stay near them.
Only Arnav is exception. He is busy on his phone while Khushi is sitting in a corner to just stay unnoticed by anyone.
Nani asks servants to serve the lunch and with a smirk orders that as the ladies can't eat with their own hands so their respective husbands or would be husbands will feed them first and then only they can eat.

All laugh while Anjali and Payel blush to the root of their hair when Akash and Shyam go running to get their food.

Only Arnav looks incredulously towards them and does say, what the...? But is surprised at the same time when he hears someone else also mutters the same near him. He turns to see Khushi is sitting on a sofa a few feet distance from him and no doubt it was her...
Khushi has seen Arnav, looking at her with one raised eyebrow and amused face.
The realization sinks in about what she has said just now but maintains a poker face to hide the embarrassment.

Nani caches them staring each other and says, (to Arnav) " ghurne ka mauka bohot milega bitwa par aabhi to inko khila dijiye. (looking at Khushi) bitiya bhuki hogi." (you get many chance to gape but for now feed her, she will be hungry)

WHATT?

Echo at the same time...

Nani hides a smile and says seriously "Keu nehi babuya? Wu dekho udahr(why not son? Look at there...)" and points other side of the hall where Akash is feeding Payel who is looking down blushing heavily, Shyam to Anjali, who is looking around and eating like she is stealing something and is afraid to get caught. Mami ji is growling at Mama ji for feeding her slowly when she is so hungry, Shashi ji feeding Garimaji who is blushing profusely like a new bride.
Nani- dekhe aab... aap bhi bina sharmaye khila dijiye aur bitiya aap bhi mauke ka fayda utha lijiye(now you have seen, don't be shy and feed her and Bitiya time for you to take advantage)... she says last part looking at Khushi.
She herself brings a plateful food and orders Arnav that if he doesn't feed Khuhsi then he won't get to eat lunch and with a mischievous smirk includes that he is allowed to eat from her plate, means together and leaves them in state of shock.


Arnav now glares at the plate in his hand then Khushi, who is looking down, biting her lips in nervousness. Arnav then keeps the plate with a bang on the table near and stares irritatingly to those romantic fools, Shayam and Akash for whom he is trapped.

Here Khushi' s gaze is fixed on the plate. She is hungry since morning. But she has no hope and no wish of having it from Laad Governor's hand. So she thinks of leaving the place. She gets up and at the same time Arnav looks at her.

The moment Khushi stands, a curtain of darkness drops in front of her eyes. She holds her head and sits with a thud.

Arnav's hard face changes in a moment with worry lines visible on it. He goes near her hurriedly and keeps his right hand on her back and asks, "Tum thik ho? (Are you alright?)"
Khushi can hear the concern in his voice and nods her head stating she is okay.
Arnav scans her face properly.

Arnav scans her face properly. She is looking pale. She might be feeling weak... how long she hasn't had any food??

That was interesting. Arnav is stunned that she is taking things in her stride and Khushi is fretting silently that she has to undergo this marriage rituals. What a pair!

Nice update. Its good to see Arnav realizing his mistake. I really hope he stops this contract marriage before its too late. Khushi is in so much pain and no one even notices her. The one who does is the one to inflict the pain. What an irony. Thanks for the PM :)
