Year Ender 2025: From Aamir to Hrithik, Actors Who Have NO RELEASES in 2026
From Aamir to Hrithik & more, some very big names may end up sitting the year out entirely. Some of them are deep into projects that will not see the light of day until 2027.

As 2025 begins to wind down, one thing is becoming increasingly clear. The theatrical calendar for 2026 is shaping up to be absolutely packed. Big stars, bigger budgets, long awaited sequels, ambitious originals, and prestige projects are all lining up to fight for audience attention. The stakes could not be higher.
Ranbir Kapoor alone is staring at a double whammy with Love and War and Ramayana Part 1 both expected to arrive next year. Shah Rukh Khan is gearing up for his first full fledged release in two and a half years with KING. Rocking Star Yash is returning after the industry shaking success of KGF Chapter 2 with Toxic - A Fairy Tale For Grown Ups. Salman Khan is hoping to course correct with Battle of Galwan. Ranveer Singh is back in form and has Dhurandhar Part 2. Add to that a slate full of franchise films, pan India spectacles, and star driven originals, and 2026 already feels overcrowded.
Yet, in the middle of all this noise, some very big names may end up sitting the year out entirely. Some of them are deep into projects that will not see the light of day until 2027. Some are in transition phases. Some are simply taking a breather. Whatever the reason, these absences are as fascinating as the releases themselves.
Here is a closer look at notable actors who are almost certain to have no release in 2026 as things currently stand.
Allu Arjun

After rewriting box office history with Pushpa 2 The Rule and delivering the highest grossing Hindi language collection ever last year, Allu Arjun entered a different league altogether. The expectations around his next move were always going to be immense. Fans, trade analysts, and the industry at large were waiting to see where the now certified megastar would head next.
That question was answered a few months ago with the announcement of his collaboration with Atlee. Touted as a massive science fiction spectacle, the film also stars Deepika Padukone and is reportedly being mounted on a scale rarely seen before in Indian cinema. The project demands extensive pre production, heavy visual effects, and a long shooting schedule.
Given the sheer ambition involved, the film is expected to take its own time. A 2026 release seems highly unlikely, which means Allu Arjun will not have any theatrical outing next year. For a star riding an all time high, the decision to wait rather than rush speaks volumes about long term planning.
Kangana Ranaut

Emergency was meant to be a defining moment for Kangana Ranaut. The political biopic was her second directorial venture and one she invested heavily in, both creatively and emotionally. Unfortunately, the film failed to connect with critics and audiences alike and went on to underperform at the box office.
That said, 2025 turned out to be a significant year for Ranaut on a different front altogether. Her political career took a major leap as she won the Mandi Lok Sabha constituency, firmly establishing herself in the public sphere beyond cinema.
On the film front, she is set to reunite with R. Madhavan after Tanu Weds Manu Returns for a psychological thriller. While the project is confirmed, there is no clarity on its shooting schedule or release timeline. As of now, there is no certainty that the film will arrive in 2026, making it likely that Ranaut will have no theatrical release next year.
Katrina Kaif

This one is not particularly surprising. Katrina Kaif has always taken measured breaks between projects, and this phase of her life naturally calls for one. Her last release, Merry Christmas, came out about two years ago and marked a quieter, more experimental turn in her career.
Recently, Kaif embraced motherhood with husband Vicky Kaushal. Unsurprisingly, she has stepped away from active work commitments for the time being. There have been no announcements regarding new films, and there is no indication of a 2026 release on the horizon.
It might be a while before she returns to the big screen, and when she does, expectations will be high. Until then, fans will simply have to wait.
Mahesh Babu

Mahesh Babu finds himself in a situation similar to Allu Arjun, albeit with even bigger stakes. His last release, Guntur Kaaram in 2024, underperformed at the box office, leaving fans eager for something substantial.
That wish is being fulfilled in a massive way. Mahesh Babu is currently collaborating with S.S. Rajamouli on his next film, Varanasi. The project marks his first association with the director and is being positioned as a global scale cinematic event.
The film has already been confirmed for a January 2027 release. Mahesh Babu is expected to be occupied with shooting for the next several months, leaving no room for another release in 2026. For his fans, the wait is long, but the payoff could be historic.
Sonakshi Sinha

Sonakshi Sinha had a fairly active 2025 with two releases, Nikita Roy and Jatadhara. While neither film managed to make a mark at the box office, her performances were noticed and appreciated.
As things stand now, however, Sinha has no confirmed project lined up for release in 2026. There is always a possibility that a film could be announced later and pushed through quickly, but nothing concrete has surfaced so far.
At the moment, it appears that she may have to sit out next year theatrically. Given her recent focus on varied roles, this pause could very well be strategic rather than circumstantial.
Aamir Khan

Aamir Khan skipping a year is hardly news anymore. Over the last seven years, he has appeared in only three theatrical releases, choosing to work at his own pace and on his own terms.
He delivered a full fledged release in 2025 with Sitaare Zameen Par, and that alone makes a 2026 absence quite likely. Khan is known to take long breaks between projects, especially after major releases.
While he will be seen in a special appearance in Happy Patel Khatarnak Jasoos and possibly a few other cameos, there is no solo theatrical release planned for 2026. For an actor who prioritises quality over quantity, this fits perfectly into his established pattern.
Shraddha Kapoor

Shraddha Kapoor’s career trajectory over the past few years has been quietly fascinating. After delivering a blockbuster with Stree 2 in 2024, she had no release at all in 2025. That kind of selectivity is rare, especially for an actor at her peak popularity.
Currently, Kapoor has just one confirmed project, Eetha, a biopic based on the life of Tamasha artist Vithabai Bhau Mang Narayangaonkar. The film is expected to begin shooting in early 2026.
Given the subject matter and the likelihood of a lengthy post production process, a 2026 release is far from guaranteed. If timelines stretch even slightly, the film could easily move to 2027, leaving Kapoor without a theatrical outing next year.
Hrithik Roshan

Hrithik Roshan is clearly at a crossroads. While Fighter performed reasonably well at the box office, the back to back failures of Vikram Vedha and War 2 have prompted serious introspection.
The underperformance of War 2 in particular seems to have hit hard, pushing Roshan to reassess his choices. He is expected to turn director with Krrish 4 and also has a project in development with Hombale Films, but both ventures are still in very early stages.
With nothing concrete ready to roll and no confirmed release dates in sight, it is highly likely that Roshan will not have a film arriving in 2026. For a star of his stature, taking time to recalibrate might be the smartest move.
While things can always change and surprise announcements are part of the industry’s DNA, as of now, these stars are almost certain to have no theatrical release in 2026. And in an era obsessed with constant visibility, sometimes stepping back might just be the boldest move of all.
2026 is already shaping up to be one of the most crowded years at the movies, with massive releases, comeback vehicles, and high stakes projects everywhere you look. Yet, some of the biggest stars might not have a single theatrical release next year. From long gestation spectacles to personal pauses and strategic breaks, here is who could be missing.
