The king of mass entertainers (as said in the promos) is back! Prabhu Deva, who is best remembered for directing huge masala hits like WANTED and ROWDY RATHORE, is back with his next film that is along similar lines to those two films. He did have RAMAIYA VASTAIYA after which failed at the box office, but that was more of a rom-com rather than the typical Prabhu Deva masala entertainer.
For a number of years, Salman Khan was going through a rough patch, with one film after another failing at the box office. It was Prabhu Deva who resurrected his career with WANTED in 2009. Not only was the film a big Hit, but it also inspired Salman to continue doing the masala genre which is what gave him the phenomenal success that he's been enjoying the last few years.
Akshay Kumar was also going through a rough patch from 2009-2011. But, in 2012, things changed in a big way for him, and a big reason for that was because of Prabhu Deva's ROWDY RATHORE, which not only a Blockbuster, but the third biggest hit of the year after EK THA TIGER and DABANNG 2.
Shahid Kapoor has been giving flops left right and center for 3 years now. But, that looks all set to change with R...RAJKUMAR.
Prabhu Deva resurrected the careers of Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar. Now, it is time for him to resurrect Shahid Kapoor's career!
R...RAJKUMAR has a ton of hype. The first theatrical trailer that released has become one of the most liked Bollywood film trailers in recent times. The second theatrical trailer was well-received, and in this second trailer, the makers cleverly promoted the film as being more of a love story rather than the usual masala film that is releasing from Bollywood every week now. It is this love story factor that makes me feel that this film will work at the box office, unlike the several other masala films released in recent times. I also want to say that the dialogues exchanged by Shahid and Sonakshi in the second trailer referring to eachother's height and weight will be loved by the audience!
The music of the film has caught on in a huge way. Gandi Baat and Saree Ka Fall Sa are huge hits with the public.
I would also like to mention that I can see from the promos that Shahid Kapoor is looking to be in terrific form in this film. The masses will love his dialogue delivery, his dances, his intensity, and the action.
Opening wise, the film will get a huge opening due to the huge hype. Opening will be best at single screens and mass dominated areas. After the opening weekend, I think the film will sustain well due to the love story in the film, and it will mainly sustain in the mass dominated areas. However, it must also be remembered that R..RAJKUMAR has only 2 weeks to collect what it can, because then the titanic known as DHOOM 3 will release.
