If u were at Kapil/Viacom place what u do?

If I were in their place I'd let Sunil go and do whatever he wanted. Just as other channels let Kapil and other comedians go and do their own thing. And I surely wouldn't give more publicity to this issue and that guy by issuing legal notices and causing controversies.

I'd protest only if our PH and channel had created that character in the first place or originally aired that character on TV for the first time.

Otherwise if my show/channel had itself used characters already popular/performed elsewhere then how and why would I claim rights over them?

The problem with Colors is that they are confused. Their show is not a fictional weekly soap. It's a reality show and people come and go doing different acts in it, including their signature acts from shows in past.

I understand they may want to replace Guthi but would be insecure if similar character is available to audience on another platform.

Still Colors has no exclusive original copyright over Guthi and should have managed without it or created some other similar character (in case they didn't want to retain Sunil or had reached a stalemate with him). Or maybe they should have continued with some replacement and left Sunil to do his own thing.

If I were in Colors' place we'd create our own original and new set of characters in first place instead of using recycled acts already performed before on other channels. Borrowers can't gloat like original creators.
