Ram Leela is all about the hot chemistry between Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh. We find out if the small screen has any such sizzling pairs and edgy romances.

Television being a family medium, most shows follow a certain code wherein there is not much skin show or steamy scenes between the lead pair. Yet, there are few that manage to sizzle. The newest pairs to rev it up are Raghu (Ayaz Ahmed) and Antara (Nikita Sharma) in Do Dil Ek Jaan, Dhruv (Ruslaan Mumtaz) and Sanchi (Sangeeta Ghosh) in Jee Le Jara, and Shlok (Avinash Sachdev) and Astha (Prachee Shah) in Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon " Ek Baar Phir. While Antara and Raghu shared a liplock to depict their consummation scene, Dhruv appeared wearing only a towel and pulled his love Sanchi into a sensual embrace. Shlok and Astha, who hated each other got intimate in a rain sequence. Then there are jodis like Asad (Karan Singh Grover) and Zoya (Surbhi Jyoti) in Qubool Hai, RK (Vivian Dsena) and Madhu (Dhrasti Dhami) in Madhubala, which are still going strong with undertones of passion.

Love bytes
"Things are changing and situations are opening up. We have a certain luxury in showing edgy scenes," says producer Saurabh Tewary who specialises in passionate love stories " Madhubala, Do Dil Ek Jaan and the upcoming Rang Rasiya. In Do Dil.. which is an action romance about a Kashmiri girl falling in love with a goon, showing ardour in a passionate manner was natural, he says. "The girl and the boy are young and it is their way of expressing their love," he maintains adding that there will be a lot of physical proximity between the lead pair (Sanaya Irani and Ashish Sharma) in his upcoming show too! In the meanwhile, sources say that the sizzling onscreen romance of Nikita and Ayaz has extended to their real life just like Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh!

Getting real
Besides the hot pairs, the general theme of dance show Nach Baliye this season is passion. Says creative director, Ranjeet Thakur, Frames Production House, "To get couples more intimate, we are using international styles of dancing like waltz and jive, which is a beautiful passionate dance form." It's about how the couples are keeping the passion alive in their relationship.

For producer Shristi Behl, the best way to depict a change in the relationship from friendship to love between Dhruv and Sanchi was to get a bare bodied Dhruv in front of the unsuspecting Sanchi. "Sanchi walks into his room innocuously but since they have revealed their love for each other, she gets flustered when he walks out of the shower. It was sweet but intense," says Shristi who is planning to have more such scenes between the couple. "First let me get them alone and aware of each other," she grins.

Damini Shetty, who scripted Maryaada " Lekin Kab Tak had written some racy scenes between the lead couple including a sexy smooch. "The story demanded that. It was about things we keep hidden in the closet. It tackled taboo issues," reasons Damini adding that the passion in Maryaada was one notch higher.

Slow burn
Though Maryaada dealt with adult content, Damini's current serial Bani-Ishq Da Kalma is a family drama and has no scope for such scenes. "Yes, one can't show this at primetime as there is a family audience. Subtle chemistry works," she points out. Avers Rajan Shahi, producer of Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlaata Hai, "There was a lot of chemistry in the lovemaking scene between Naitik (Karan Mehra) and Akshara (Hina Khan) but one can't be sexually overt. It is used by makers to get that extra sizzle," he reckons.

Looks like passion on TV is still a forbidden fruit, and can be eaten only in small bites!
