Deepika Padukone's first 3 releases of the year - Race 2, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and Chennai Express - were all expected to open well at the box office. But her biggest test was always going to be Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Ram Leela.
The film wasn't a sequel nor did it boast of a bankable male star. Yet, Ram Leela has pleasantly surprised the trade with the start that it has taken.
In fact, the first 4 day figures are higher than Race 2 and comparable to a big film like Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, which is a massive achievement in itself.

However, the real test for Ram Leela is in the next few days. YJHD was rock-steady for 3 weeks, while Ram Leela has to compete against films like Gori Tere Pyaar Mein, Singh Saab The Great and Bullett Raja.
