Chapter 25

It was late night when manveer had gone to sleep. A pillow separated them. Uday had managed to slip the diary between jai's clothes when jai was away. Manveer had not spoken to each other after their earlier conversation. There was an uncomfortable silence between them. Uday lay on his side of the bed and Watched manyata get ready for bed. Her eyes were blood red. It looked like she was crying a lot during her bath. Uday felt sad for her. He got up and sat crosslegged on the bed.

"manyata?" uday called a bit hesitatedly.
Manyata quickly wiped away those tears that threatened to fall out of that beautiful eyes.

"y...yes uday?"
U: why were u crying?

M: i... Did nt cry. Its.. Its just some shampoo went in my eyes while washing my eyes.

U: Princess, you are not good in lying. I thought we talked about jai and her evil schemes. Why are you hurting yourself more thinking about it. You would just end up spoiling ur own mood.

M: uday its not like that. I am totally disgusted with myself.

Uday raised an eyebrow in surprise. Manyata came and sat on her side of the bed.
"yes am disgusted with myself"

"why?"

M: If i wanted i could have been good. What right do i have to say jai is wrong? She wasn't the person who acted as a spoilt brat , i was

"its ok manyta"

M: no its not ok uday, even if jiji tried to manipulate me , I could have used my brains to see what was right and what was wrong. I was blind, totally blind. And like any blind person I felt jiji was leading me light, I thought jiji was doing all this for me and for my good, I never ever doubted her. And now I feel I am even fit to live.

(taking uday's hand and tracing the scar on his hand, that uday had after manyta had falsely accused him and beaten him up in the police station)

This scar's remind me why I am not fit to be even called a human, how could I have been so blind, so inconsiderate.

(falling on her knees and catching hold of uday's feet)

I am so sorry uday , I am really sorry. I apologise to you from the bottom of my heart. Please forgive me. Please.

(tears started flowing from her eyes and it fell on uday's feet. Uday lifted her up and made her sit on the bed)

U: manyta, you have done a lot of bad things in your life, but now you have apologized and I can hear the sincere tone in your apology. Its ok manyta.

M: but how could you be so forgiving (crying more) I hurt you so much, I made you work like a slave, I treated you like a door mat. I tried to file a false case against you . I made your life a living hell and yet you say you forgive a sinner like me?

U: manyta, my baba always said the toughest word in the whole world is to say sorry. Not a ordinary sorry, but a heartfelt one, no one would ever do that. Sorry for many is just a word to escape a punishment or just a formality. Only a true person would apologize. Manyta today, you have apologized from the bottom of your heart and so I forgive you. Baba also said, forgiving is divine.

M: I want to meet baba, and ask his forgiveness. Can we go now?

U: manyta, (checking the time) its 12 midnight, baba would be sleeping. Tomorrow when we are going to jaigarh we can go and meet him, happy?

Manyta managed to give a faint smile and added, touching her mangalsutra

M: uday, I know our marriage was forced on us. But still cant we try to take this relation forward. I mean, just like friends, nothing else

Uday looked at her and said." Princess, even I felt this marriage was just a deal for your families, but my ma, asked me to give this marriage my full effort. I am willing to do my part. You cant clap with just one hand na, solets start being friends?

(uday extended his hand and manyta took it and they shake hands)

U: shall we go to bed? (askes with a smile)

Manyta looks with a shocked expression and uday realizes what he meant

U: no, I mean, lets sleep, just sleep, nothing else, good night

Uday says in an embarrassed voice and sleeps without looking at her

Manyta smiled and joined him to sleep. The pillow still stood as a barrier between them

After taking the elder's blessing manveer left to jaigarh around 10 am, jai was not there as she had gone for work in uday's office. Uday requested his driver to stop at baba's house. " come manyta" uday told a slightly embarrassed manyta, together they walked inside . baba was reading the newspaper so uday called him to catch his attention

" baba?"

Baba looked up and saw uday and standing next to him was manyta, his face fell

Manyta moved forward and caught his feet and said and said " am so sorry baba, I was cruel in the past, I seek for forgiveness, please forgive me"

Baba did not say a word but went away. Manyta looked at uday with fear filled eyes

" its ok manyta, give him time to accept you, its not easy for him" consoled uday

Baba came back with a thali and did arthi for manyta . with tear filled eyes he said" my bahu has finally come home, may you have a long married life". Manyta became emotional and hugged him, and baba after handing the thali to uday hugged her back. " its ok beti, anyone makes mistakes. Leave the past and concentrate on the future, sit down both of you, I will prepare you tea"

Manyta however said " baba, you take rest, I will make tea for all of us"

U: are you sure manyta ? (highly doubting her tea making skills)

M: I will manage uday

As manyta went to the kitchen uday told his baba " I doubt if she can recognize which is tea powder or coffee. I just hope she does not add salt instead of sugar in our tea"

Baba chuckled hearing uday's comment

"Tea ready" came an excited voice of manyta after 5 minutes. Manyta brought 3 cups of tea and distributed among them

Uday looked at the tea , just like a prisoner would look at the electric chair. Baba was more courageous of the two, and cautiously took a sip, uday looked at his expression. It changed from doubt to fear to extreme delight

"Very good tea, beti, just like the way I wanted" baba complimented

"thanks baba"

Uday took the risk to taste the tea, and to his surprise he loved it. it was good, na, it was really good " so she knows to make tea" thought uday

After spending some more time there talking with baba manveer left for jaigarh both with a light heart

Uday could not help himself from asking manyta " so you know to make tea?"

M: yes, I used to wake up early mornings to study and so I would prepare my tea then, I never wanted to disturb the servants. It then became a passion and I learnt cooking. I know to cook well , I even took a class on Chinese and continental dishes"

U: wow, I am impressed. And I thought you did not know which salt was and which sugar was"

Manyta just grinned at uday

M: I never cook at home; no one ever made an effort to encourage me or even say a good word to me. To all I was a brat. Every day, DS and mama would say manyta is like this' manyta is like that' and when I hear that I get mad and act worse. Never ever did anyone come to me and tell "manyta , tell me how was your day? What did you do today?" nobody asked anything to me. Only jiji would be there for me. So I depended on her for everything. atleast she was there to listen to me, when I was alone and needed someone to support me. Now I realize I was alone all along. No one ever cared for me, not my family , not my friends and not even jiji

Manyata continued : my only was to vent my frustration was fighting with others and uday you had the worst luck. I ended taking all my frustration on you. When you started scoring more marks than me, I was angry. I felt you were a demon who came to steal my credit from me. You know the well done' praise which ma would say when I came first would make my day and I was willing to kill for that tiny bit of praise. And so you were a demon who came to steal my mama's love from me,so I never felt what I was doing was right or wrong. I wanted to defeat you by hook or crook, yet still you continued to defeat me

M: after joining devgarh groups I started to work hard, giving my full effort there, I wanted to succeed and wanted to prove my family that I was not just a name but a person who strived hard to achieve success. And you came that time for a job as my PA. and I ended torturing you, even now I don't know why acted so. But somewhere I did like you uday, I really liked you

Uday looked at her to shocked to hear this revealation." So she did like me"

M: somewhere you brought out that innocent girl hiding behind the stone mask I created. And I felt really bad when you rejected me. I lost my control uday, I lost it. I could not take another defeat in my life, so I ended filing a false case against you (tears started flowing) in my mind I was doing everything right, but was it like that? No. ans when I knew you were udayveer, my udayveer, whom I waited all these years, I was broken, totally. More misunderstandings came between us and now we both are on the same page.

U: princess, don't cry, but can I ask you something

Manyata nodded her head

U: did you like arvind? I mean I saw you both in a compromising scene when we went for that conference? You don't need to answer it if you don't want too

M: no, uday, I am glad you asked. Arvind and I were just good friends, that day he tried to molest me (manyta told uday how he had came to her room and hugged her as she came out of the shower)

Uday fisted his hands and his face showed extreme anger

U: good thing he is in jail or...

M: I know uday. we had a lot of misunderstandings among us, I hope we would be able to clear then soon

The whole afternoon manveer spent talking to each other, they opened their hearts and share everything, even their darkest secrets. Sometime around 4 in the evening manyta fell asleep on uday's shoulder. Uday looked at her face and thought I was harsh towards her, thinking that she was a selfish creature now however I know how mistaken I am , she has a good soul, circumstances made her bad, na rotten. And from now I would see she never returns to her old self again, everyone deserves a fair chance na."

"manyta wake up, wake up na, just look outside"

Manyta woke up with a shudder. It took her a second to realize where she was.

M: what is it uday?

U: look outside na (excitedly)

Manyta looked outside and saw a roadside fair there. It was a festival in the nearby temple and so the locals had set up the fair. A lot of fairy lights adorned the surrounding. Darkness had started to creep and it made the place more beautiful. There were a lot of stalls there and a giant wheel too stood in the midst of the ground. A lot of other jo;lly rides where there and children were playing there.

U: come lets go

M: what uday? what if the media gets to know about this?

U: oho, manyta this is a village and there are no media persons here, they have better sense of news than to be present here to cover a local festival

Both manyta and udayveer got outside the car. as manyta was about to enter uday said" wait manyta" and began to search for something among their luggage. He came forward with a woolen shawl and covered manyta with it. manyta realized that she was wearing a tight t shirt and jeans

U: you know, its interior India, many elders may not like girls wearing modern dresses, so just cover yourself up. We don't want to invite trouble , do we? Moreover its night time and can get chilly too

Manyta was touched by uday's gesture and gave him a heartfelt smile.

Manveer went for shopping. Their guards followed them from a distance giving them some privacy. They first entered a cloth shop. Only salwars and sarees were there. Uday told "manyta, maybe we should leave, you don't wear these dresses, do you?"

" its ok uday. I would love to buy a salwar, after all we are going to jaigarh and people there are not modern. Moreover I would like to try one. "

Uday felt happy. Together they selected a lot of salwars and sarees (on uday's insistence)

After paying the bill manveer left the shop. Manyta told uday: its for the first time I am ever buying something that is not a brand. Would anyone believe that a girl who is brand conscious like me would end up like this!!! But I should add the designs here are too good. I doubt we would ever get this style with brand items.

U: the real India is in its villages. I really would like to see you in a saree. Come lets go and buy some accessories to match for the salwars and sarees

Manveer shopped for earrings and bangles and chains. Uday even bought manyta a pair of anklets and a waist band too. They then reached a sweet selling shop

Manyta exclaimed seeing the variety of sweets available there, it was like holi with sweets of different colours and shapes. The smell of ghee and sugar made that atmosphere mouth watering.

Manyata whispered in uday's ears : oh god!! These sweets look so mouth watering, can we buy at least one of every sweet?

Uday chuckled: sure princess

After buying a sweet of every variety and buying more to eat later manveer left the shop

M: oh, this laddoo tastes so divine. Wow!! I never tasted a laddoo so tasty. These people really know how to make sweets.

U: um, (eating a jelebi) I agree. Baba used to take me to fairs like this, and all I wanted was sweets. I used to save all my pocket money just to buy sweets.

Manveer finally reached the giant wheel

U: come lets go for a ride!!

M: no!!! I am so scared.

U: don't be such a scared cat. Come na, I am sure you would enjoy it

And uday literally pulled her. After they were seated the wheel started to move up. (to balance the weight at all sides) manyta grabbed uday's hand tightly and closed her eyes. Uday looked at her face with amusement "beautiful" he thought.

After all the people were seated on the ride, the operator started to increase the speed. "manyta , open your eyes"

"No...I am scared" her grip on uday tightened.

"Just open na and scream if you want"

Manyta opened and instantly closed her eyes, and again opened

"wow, ah!!!!" she started screaming. She vented all her fear in that scream. The speed of the giant well increased and so did the loudness of manyta''s screams. Uday could not help but grin seeing the child in manyta coming out.

Finally the ride came to an end. Uday looked at manyta and asked "how was it?"

"Wow!!! Can we go again?" came manyata's answer.

Manveer left the place around 9 after eating their supper from there. Manyta just loved the food there and wanted to try a piece of everything. uday had to literally drag manyta away from there, just like a parent would drag a child from a toy shop.

The night was pleasantly cold, and it was just perfect for a good sleep.

"Manyta?" called uday

No answer came as she was fast asleep. She was sleeping facing the window and during each bump manytas head hit the glass. Careful not to disturb her uday pulled her towards himself and allowed her to sleep on his lap. And uday too finally slept, a smile on his lips remembering the day they had.

"yuvarajsa, we reached jaigarh" the driver announced. Uday checked the time. It was around 3 in the morning. Manyta was fast asleep and uday did not have the heart to wake her up.

He carried manyta in his arms. The manager was waiting for him at the entrance." yuvaragsa we expected both of you to reach by 9 last night"

"sorry we got delayed, could you show me my room, my wife fell asleep and so "

" sure , this way yuvarajsa"

Uday carried manyta to their room in the first floor, manyta slept like a baby in the hands of her father. The room was elegant and had a traditional look to it, there was a wooden wardrobe full of wood work and design. The bed looked fit for a king, " iam a king na" chuckled uday as he placed manyta on the bed and covered her with a quilt after removing her shoes,

The guards came and placed their luggages and left. Uday decided to take shower before sleeping. After a hot shower he came. Manyta was sleeping and her face shone in the moon light that peeped in through the satin pink curtains. Uday could not help himself and kissed her on her fore head before sleeping. He involuntarily placed the pillow between them. It was when he thought" do we need more barriers between us, no , no more barriers" and he removed the pillow between them. Soon uday too fell asleep

But I had made a deal and as a part of it I had to update 😡

I had to explain manyta's thoughts as many had complained about her character

Everybody has a reason why they behave so, it takes a great heart to understand it and that is what uday did😳
