Yes, as long as the boy is Hindu and the girl is the one that's non-Hindu.Only a few exceptions to this. Otherwise if there are interreligious stories, it's always the female that's from the minority religious community.And it's not just Bollywood, Hindi films or India. It exists outside of India too--though it adapts according to the majority religion of the particular country.
