He had directed quite some movies, but which of them were commercial successful apart from being critically acclaimed?

Khamoshi: The musical

HDDCS

Devdas

Black

Saawariya

Guzaarish

Wasn't black a hit or was it just critically acclaimed? Apart from these he has also produced the likes of Rowdy rathore and shirin farhad ki toh nikal padi too right?

Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam did average business. Black did the same.

He has no clean hits in his career (hits that everyone in trade agrees as so). Ramleela could be his first 😉

Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam wasn't a hit?! Omg. That movie was beautifully depicted.

I dunno about hits/flops but his movies are a visual treat. I hope Ram-Leela does really well.

Devdas barely made it to the HIT tag.

His films have had massive budgets and limited audience in the past, with the exception of HDDCS. With Ram-Leela he's made the transition to commercial cinema but still not completely sold on it either. Monday will be the litmus test.
