Ok guys, finally got some time to write up a review! I loved Ram Leela & give it a 4/5😃
Let me start with what I liked first! I think I have to give it to SLB for doing so much for this movie! I know lot of ppl are out there telling this is so not SLB style but it's nice to see that he tried something new & still maintained the aesthetics that he has been known for! Next ofcourse are the actors-Ranveer, DP, Supriya, Richa!! All were so amazing, you have to see it to appreciate it & no amt of trailer can prepare you for what was offered.
Starting with Supriya, I mean I couldn't believe what she did in this movie! I have always known as an endearing, sweet lady but here she is the don but with so much depth!! Who would have thought of her fitting in a SLB movie! And pls, there is just no comparision to Kirron kher as some ppl had posted! I felt that she had that subtle charm that isn't to be missed inspite of playing a negative character!
Next is the rest of the supproting cast-Richa, Sharad, Gulshan! They were all so amazing & fit in this movie like a charm!
From the leading character, first one to catch your eye is Deepika! Lord, how much has this woman grown this year! I liked her as Meenamma though there were some rough edges but I think she really was born to be Leela! That passion, aggression, beauty, one word AMAZING!! I think she was waiting to be tapped by a director who will let her shine & shine she did!! I have no doubts she will win all awards this year & very well deserved too!
Last but not the least, Ranveer!! I mean who is this guy😕 I have seen in 4 different movies now & I still don't know who he is! From the Loud Bitto to Smooth Ricky to the shy Varun to this!! I mean its amazing how this guy metamophosises into various roles without a hiccup!! He is easily the best thing that happened to Indian Cinema! The way he emotes, mouths his gaalis, gujarati, there is no way you cannot help falling for this guy & I didn't even notice all those six packs as my eyes would not leave his face!! Gosh, I hope some gr8 directors continue to tap the amazing talent he has & he is destined for greatness!
Overall this was a very satisfying movie after all the wait, days of stalking the forums! And ofcourse I will be flocking back to this movie with a frnd again next Sat😳
I know there was lot written about the storyline or lack of it but I think SLB paid an apt ode to the bard with his interpretation! Yes as a true Indian, I wished for more of the mush lovestory in the beginning but the way he has shown the love progress-that instant attaraction deepening to much more when calamity strikes, Ram's despair, remorse, Leela single mindedness to what she believes is something that has been very rarely shown in Indian cinema. That one scene where the 2 dons discuss truce is to die for! For me it's THE scene of the year!! Hats off to SLB, DP & Ranveer for just that one!
Now for some not so nice things! There were a few, not too many though!! For one, I hated all the guns being shown around, so if violence is not your thing, you may not like it! Also the rape scenes were gut wrenching & I had to step out of the theatre for a moment! But these are not necessarily bad but it was a bit difficult for me! Also I wish they had inclued some songs over the other but that could be just me!
Finally, one last word on Priyanka! OMG, as much as I disliked some of the steps shown on the trailer, it was much more & how well she did it! She got tons of appreciation from the audience & I thought she danced very well though I hate item numbers! Guys don't go by trailers, just watch this once! You may not like it but you will talk about it & it will touch you in ways you didn't expect it! So rush to the theatres😳😆
