In this case, Alok hid the truth from his wife, with whom he has been sharing a happy married life staying under same roof. Alok hid the truth from Shiv too. And Ira did not get a chance to mourn for her dead baby.

@bold above, initially, MS did not know that Basant was his child. He learnt later when the old midwife disclosed this fact. So DS actually hid the fact of Basant being MS's son from everybody - may be even her husband did not know (they did not show her telling this to her husband, so this is my guess). Basant also must have got a big shock after knowing the truth.

Mahvir Singh was a bad guy. His wife and Kalyani gave birth on the same day. Kalyani's son was still born while Mahavir's wife was dying because she fell from stairs and gave birth in that condition. She knew she was dying, so she asked Kalyani to take care of Basant like her (Kalyani's) own son. At that time, only the midwife was present, so nobody got the truth. Years later - after Nandu's birth, Mahavir got to know (from the midwife) that his son was not dead and was actually living with Kalyani Devi. So like Alok and Meenu, even Kalyani Devi hid the truth of Basant's parentage even from her own family.
