Hgg ji,
So, Saras stayed back at VC's well after revealing his intention of NOT marrying Kumud. At that point I felt like he was giving a lazy excuse(building the school) to stay back and 'let' Kumud breach past his citadel, more like a wishful thinking. Because, during that mandhir scene (after Kumud bails him out from jail), he repeatedly gets intrigued and keeps prodding Kumud as to why she saved him. And then the revelation that "there's something between the two of us" forced him to distance himself further all because of that absurd thought of him being a bad omen to people he loves. Why not just leave at that point? I think he found solace in her companionship that let him 'bypass' that crazy thought for awhile. Again, when the going gets tough, all that build up of positive energy(thanks to Mai and Kumud) falls down crumbling. It's a character flaw here but the way it's been used in this accident scenario for the estrangement to happen for the frikkin' millionth time doesn't sound convincing. At least to me.😕

Agree...
...And yet I still feel it is incorrect to interpret / associate the God scene with his childhood trauma...it does not work...
@Bold
I agree that he stayed on because of the ehsaas and because kumud had penetrated his defences and going through life as a loner..
...which were created as a safety mechanism ...do not let anyone into my world because this person will also leave me and cause the hurt to begin again...this was also the reason he had not bonded with LN (of course gumaan had accelerated & amplified this by manipulating LN) and was afraid to let go and fall in love ...
..because doing so would make him feel vulnerable and out of control...exactly as he would have felt when the trauma of his mother's death hit him...
...His intense conscious wish to remain alone was wrecked due to the soul connect he felt with kumud ...
... His constant refrain in those days was that the more we try to move away the more we are pitted closer together...with the focus on... Why do we continue to be pitted closer together?...Is there something good in all this?... and so he stayed...
... His constant reaction to take flight when his loved ones are in trouble was / is (?) out of a desire to avoid hurt because he fears their loss...and not necessarily because he feels he is the cause for the loved ones troubles...
All this bad omen / destiny nonsense started much later and that too from Kumud's side...
... Remember when he realized he was the cause of Kumud's troubles, he stayed through thick and thin...
... Therefore if you apply Shanthi's interpretation...and the above reasoning ...the scene works...because it then depicts
- a healed Saras who is now no longer afraid to reiterate his love and expose his vulnerability
- no longer running away when his loved ones are in trouble (he gave that up when Kumud was at BDs)
- and fighting hard for what he loves ...Kumud...Totally different then the older saras of the telephone call, which was saras running away from what he loved (Kumud) when confronted with the pain of the loss of a loved one (his mother's letter etc.)
- and fighting so hard that he makes a deal with kalika...and then has the audacity to make a dare / deal with God even when he has nothing to give in return except his love...
