U will meet Eklavya next week. He had the potential to be a better archer than Arjun, but Drona promised Arjun that he would be world's best archer. So, he refused to take on Karna as a student...and he asked Eklavya to cut of his thumb as fee - Eklavya considered Drona his teacher and secretly observed and learnt archery from Drona. When Drona learnt this and saw his talent he worried that he would be unable to keep his promise to make Arjuna the best archer, so as dakhshina (fee) for education he took Eklavya's thumb. Without his thumb Eklavya could not become the best, but was still one of the best.
